  1. I agree on his abiliy to slow the game down. Great dmen have that skill. It can't be taught.
  2. Thing I noticed as well was when OJ was on the ice Finland was soon out of the zone and in transition. Seems the other Finnish D pairings were hemmed in quite often. Happy for the kid and his performance today.
  3. Watched every Finnish game. Their coach left me scratching my head a few times with his player deployment.
  4. JO plays a compact game. He relies on others to be where they are supposed to be. Especially his d partner. This bodes well for the pro game.
  5. For sure. Finland's bottom half to third of their roster wouldn't of gotten a sniff on team Canada.
  6. Man among boys today JO. He will be just fine. Finland's best Dman in the tournamant.
  7. Meaning some fans aren't happy unless they see "flash"
  8. What? You mean you don't have to skate end to end to be a good dman? Lol.
  9. I remember MT's skating was his knock at the draft. Speed wasn't there. Looks fine now. Hopefully Gadjovich can improve in the same way.
  10. Its a tough comparison to Pietrangelo. To me Piet just does everything real well. Everything. So that's a tough high water mark for any young D man to rise to. If OJ got anywhere close to a Piet it would be a welcome addition to the team that's for sure.
  11. I can respect what Guds can bring. Seems like a great team guy. I liked the trade when it happened. I just don't see him as anywhere near a four million dollar man. Often injured, zero offensive production, in a league getting faster he is looking slower. I feel he is easily replaced for far less than four million a year. Biega for one would probably be happy to sign for 1 or 1.5. Would miss his size but it is replaceable for far less than four per year. I would offer three a year tops. Trade him otherwise.
  12. Meh. Was going to give him a Mathew Tkachuk slew foot. Changed my mind. lol.
  13. I would say the long smooth strides. Head up vision on outlet passes. At times body position going into board battles which is improving with OJ. I guarantee this is a result of working with Salo. He was a master at positioning his body on the right side if the opponent and using leverage to separate man from puck and disrupting plays.
  14. The shootout comment was meant as a joke. Humour didn't translate to my words I suppose. A play on the Sedins lack of shootout success. All good. I've only seen EP's highlights on this thread since this fall and I'm a huge fan. Seen his breakaways. Haven't been this excited about a pick in al long time.
  15. You left out Pitts. No MT douchebag type during their three cup run. Don't look now but Tampa and Nashville looking good without a player with that circus act. Not denying MT has talent. But you can win without players with his attitude. Will see how Flames do this year in playoffs before passing further judgement. Didn't work out last year for them.
  16. Its his technique for sure. At times doesn't push out and fully extend and finish his strides. I'm confident it can be resolved. Hes a gamer. Love the pick.
  17. For sure. Its a coin toss at times. For D It is difficult to fight through fore checks and board battles and checks to get the pucks to the forwards. OJ has shown he can do that. Just needs more time to put it all together with consistency. Tools, size, smarts all there.
  18. Yes. Its such a crap shoot at times. I watched OJ at the summer prospects camp and came away somewhat disappointed. However I have seen a big improvement to his game already. He's looked real good at the world juniors. He's quicker with his reads and more decisive. I still say the more structured the game is the better he will look.
  19. Player development depends a lot on placement. Burr with the twins, Sergachev with Tampa instead of Mont, Shultz in Pitt, etc. MT has benefited from A1 linemates from the get go. See tonight's assists. Credit to MT for running with it. I say he wouldn't put up those numbers on the Canucks. Plus in my opinion MT is a douche. I agree with JB and his emphasis on character and glad he passed on him. Glad we have OJ in the system. Again I'm not saying MT wont have a good career. Just glad it's not on the team I support.
  20. Doh! Hope EP isn't like Henrik in the shootouts. Lol.
  21. If your quoting his 48 points as a rookie I thought I'd add his postseason stats. That said. I can agree both players should go on to great careers. Of the two my pick for the Canucks would however be OJ.
  22. Shouldn't be a shootout. Sweden should of won by one on a Petersson penalty shot. Grrr.
