Oh it's all good. I was literally just saying I agree with you, it's just that others on here seem to be telling me otherwise -- that Philly wants to win now, so futures and prospects are not what they care about right now.
-
Hey I'm with you guys, but I think it was @mll and a couple other guys on here that were saying that Philly is under some intense pressure to get the team up to speed now. Drafting a player that may help in a couple years isn't gonna be good enough.
-
I thought Philly was rebuilding too, but others on here have said they are under a lot of pressure to make the playoffs NOW.
-
Scenario 1: So let's say Philly offers the 4th OA pick 1-for-1 for Miller. Would you? Scenario 2: Philly wins the lottery and picks 2nd OA. Offers it to Vancouver for Miller 1-for-1. Would you? Scenario 3: Philly drops in the lottery and gets the 5th OA pick. Offers it to Vancouver for Miller 1-for-1. Would you?
-
Letang would be a stop gap solution... He's 35 years old already lol Philly and that 4th OA pick is interesting considering they have eyes on Miller possibly?
-
Uhh... they did win. They won in 2008-09. No Letang yet, but they had Fleury. EDIT: My bad, didn't see him on the list, but he's there (Letang) Coaching apparently mattered... Bylsma couldn't get it done. They switched to Johnston and Sullivan, and they won 2 in a row.
-
It is when you have that kind of core to work with... Add Cale Makar and Thatcher Demko to the Oilers and tell me they wouldn't win a cup or 2.
-
He brought in some great supporting players, but you gotta wonder how much of it has to do with the fact they had Crosby and Malkin up front, and Letang eating up huge minutes on the back end. I just think half the league's GMs could have won cups with that core.
-
I think if the Preds take out Colorado, @-Vintage Canuck- should reveal his identity.
-
Ok, let's make sure we get some clarity here. Rutherford is a 3-time Stanley Cup champion, but I'll put an asterisk on 2 of them. Here are my thoughts. Pittsburgh Penguins - He joined Pittsburgh in June 2014. - He inherited a team that had consistently finished 1st or 2nd in the division, and made the playoffs every year the preceding 7 years before he got there. - In those 7 years before he got there, that core had already won a Cup. - That core of Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Fleury were already there and just about to hit their prime years (ages 26 to 29). - I don't think there's any surprise that those 4 core players won 2 more Cups in the peak of their prime while Rutherford was there. Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes - He joined Hartford in June 1994. - Won the Cup with Carolina in 2006. I'd argue that his performance with Hartford/Carolina is more impressive. I mean, it did take him 12 years to get the Cup there, but he did it. Including drafting key guys like Staal, Ward, Cole, etc. Bringing in Justin Williams and others. I just think JR might be a little overrated because of his Penguins tenure. Is he a good GM? Of course, but the caveat is that I'm pretty sure most of the GMs in the league could have won a Cup with arguably 4 of the best players in their positions of this entire generation.
-
Maybe... but man I'd hate to face Miller 7 to 8 times a year while he's in his prime.
-
I really don't see the Canucks moving Miller within the division unless it's a major overpayment.
-
Some wild hooligan on CDC... lol

How does their cap situation look moving forward?
-
I'd try and move Dickinson and Myers to Dallas. 1. Myers fills the void left by Klingberg 2. Dickinson is someone they are already familiar with. If we need to retain $500k to $750k to move both out, I'm all for it. It's only 2 years anyways.

[Proposal] Severson, and addition of size and grit
HKSR replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Yeah, was gonna respond again after HighOnHockey's response. It does make some sense. If we can get Severson, I'd be definitely ok with moving Miller. It would transform our D core. -

Good insight. However after hearing JR/PA yesterday, I have my doubts about whether or not Miller will be back. It sounds to me like Boeser will be re-signed on a long term deal, but not so confident about Miller. If Miller is on his way out, and NJD are interested, I'd move Miller to NJD for Severson plus one of their young forwards not named Hischier or Hughes. I'd be mighty comfortable re-signing Severson for anywhere between $6M and $7M long term too. He's a great 2-way defenceman. Perfect compliment for Q Hughes. -
Ok, so let's say Miller wants way too much money and term (ie. $8.5M x 8), where does he go? Assuming the Canucks don't want to trade within the division.... here are my thoughts. INTERESTED: These are the teams that could be interested (assuming they don't win the Cup this year): Boston Carolina Florida Colorado Toronto ON THE FENCE: Teams on the fence... do these teams feel a JT Miller could push them into contender territory? Columbus NYI Winnipeg NOT INTERESTED - CAP: These are the teams I don't think would be interested due to cap limitations NYR -- This boat has sailed. Copp has been great for them. It makes a lot more sense for them to simply re-sign him than to sell the farm for Miller. Dallas -- With big contracts on aging guys like Benn and Seguin, I really don't see them going after Miller considering they have Hintz and Robertson moving up. St Louis -- With big breakout years for Kyrou and Thomas, there's zero need to sell assets for Miller. Cap space will be an issue moving forward. Tampa -- ZERO cap space as it already is, let alone trying to bring in another huge contract. Minnesota -- See above Washington -- See above Pittsburgh -- See above NOT INTERESTED - REBUILDING: Rebuilding teams = Zero interest: Nashville -- Poile has basically said they're gonna start rebuilding soon. Arizona Chicago NJD Buffalo Detroit Montreal Ottawa Philly DIVISIONAL: I doubt Vancouver would trade Miller to a divisional rival, but here's my thoughts: Anaheim -- Rebuilding LA -- Might be interested Edmonton -- No Cap Calgary -- No Cap Las Vegas -- No Cap, but it's Vegas, so who knows... Seattle -- Rebuilding San Jose -- Rebuilding soon What are your thoughts?

Yeah, seeing how Petey and Hughes interacted with Boeser in that interview changed my tune on Brock. We absolutely need to keep him, as it looks like there's a real bond between those guys. Clearly Brock has a LOT going on in his life at the moment, but that won't last forever. At some point, Brock will turn his game around once his head is 100% back in the game. Then we'll probably see the Brock from last year when he lead the entire team in production. If we can lock him up between $6M and $7M long term (ie. 7 or 8 years), we do it.

[Proposal] Severson, and addition of size and grit
HKSR replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Forward depth isn't too bad as we would go out and sign a forward via UFA. So really, we'd lose Hogs as depth in the forward group. Both Garland and Hogs are our smallest forwards, so we'd look to get bigger up front. Severson would cost a lot, but he would be perfect here. -

Problem with that is I don't think Miller fits their age group. -
Yeah, every time I try and find a way to improve the blueline, it always comes down to Myers. There's simply no other way to improve it. Like you said, Hughes, Dermott, Schenn, and OEL are all staying either because they're too good, too cheap, or impossible to move (OEL). So Myers, Hunt, Burroughs, Poolman... If we move out Myers and replace him with Poolman or Burroughs, is it a $3.5M to $5M reduction in performance? Probably not... Do gotta wonder a little bit on how Poolman could potentially play with Boudreau's system vs Green's terrible defensive system.

I guess we differ there. The last thing we need with a depleted prospect cupboard is to give away draft picks. As I've shown in my example, retaining on Dickinson and Poolman does almost nothing to our cap situation in the next couple years. Still have millions in space to work with (over $6M+ next year). -
So Boeser is coming back...
