  1. I think you'd be surprised how many guys would be interested in the opportunity to play 1st pairing minutes next to a superstar like Quinn Hughes. That opportunity doesn't present itself all the time.
  2. I agree. If FA sticks his hands into the pot, JR leaves. There's nothing keeping JR here other than the fact he wants the project. We'll know pretty easily if the owners are meddling if JR decides to leave before finding success here.
  3. I dunno, it's really hard to assess this time given everything that has happened the past couple years. Are they a top 10 team? Probably not without a little tweaking. However, I think the foundation is there as we've seen when this team plays to their potential, they can beat pretty much any team in the league. When healthy: - Top 10 to 15 scoring 1C? Check -- probably have 2 of them in Miller and Petey, so now you have a 1C for your 2nd line as well. - Strong 3C? Check -- Horvat. One of the best faceoff guys in the entire league, a strong and effective shut down centre, all while putting up 30 goals in a season. - #1 Defenceman? Check -- Hughes. He can control the game, and is a full on game breaker. - Vezina calibre goaltending? Check -- Demko. No explanation needed. - Scoring support? Check -- Garland, Boeser, Podkolzin, Pearson, Hoglander (still have faith in him), and I wouldn't count on it, but right now it's there .... Chiasson lol. All guys capable of potting 10 to 20 goals. What I see missing: - A true shut down defenceman. Using OEL for this role is really a waste. - Offence from the back end ... again, it comes back to OEL. If he doesn't need to babysit Myers, he can start to generate the offence we know he's capable of. - More size and grit. Schenn can't do it alone. We need a forward that can answer the bell when needed. Personally I don't see as many holes and issues as some people see when it comes to this team. The defence needs some rejigging, but it's really hard to complain about the forwards when all 9 of your top 9 are capable of 15 goals or more each, and your 4th line is an excellent energy line that can keep teams hemmed in their own end. Since Boudreau and his team has taken over, the Canucks are top 10 in GF, GA, PP, and PK as well. There's a LOT going for this team. To remove a 1C (Miller), a top 6 guy (Boeser or Garland), and possibly more? Why?
  4. Are we really sacrificing that much future? Crouse is 24 Graves is 26 And then don't forget we are unloading a 32 year old Myers.
  5. I think the selling feature in UFA for a RHD is that it's clear we're looking for a partner for Quinn Hughes. If you tell a guy that they will be playing side-by-side on the top pairing with one of the premier young defencemen in the league, it's a huge advantage when it comes to coercing a UFA RHD to Vancouver.
  6. I don't think you know who Graves and Crouse are. Crouse would be a top 6 winger here without a doubt at all. Graves would be this team's best defensive defenceman by a landslide. Cap space saved from moving Boeser also allows us to bring in our top 4 RHD, and another solid RHD via UFA. So 2 more RHD.
  7. "Can't" and "Didn't" are not the same thing. By your definition, Colorado can't beat Seattle. Picking 2 games to assess a team is probably not the best way to do it.
  8. I don't even bother with any of that... I let Vintage Canuck bring me the news on a platter here on CDC
  9. Haha, she gave me 2 beautiful daughters... and she's surprisingly lenient when it comes to me purchasing whatever cars I want lol
  10. I used to, before the family life kicked in... had a CBR600RR. Definitely miss it... the funds from selling that bike are now sitting on my wife's wedding finger lmao Ride safe out there guys.
  11. Count me in on that round of drinks. I'll body check Boeser on to the plane.
  12. All good points. Did make me wonder though, maybe all we need is to sign a guy like Zadorov? Rather than using Boeser to acquire Graves? We could then flip Boeser for futures just to save some cap space. Wouldn't mind seeing Zadorov and Myers as a pair Could then put OEL and Dermott together.
  13. But more importantly how important it is to build chemistry. If something is working, don't break it up and hope for improvement by throwing a bunch of new pieces together.
  14. yeah he probably should get about the same tbh. Man, it's gonna be a really interesting offseason. So many unknowns, and kudos to PA/JR for keeping everything behind closed doors for so long. Nobody has a clue as to what they're thinking.
  15. Not gonna lie, I thought for a second that Brock was actually extended when I saw the title of this thread lmao
  16. They need to unlock OEL's offensive game more than anything. We literally have a 45-50pt defenceman being utilized as a shut down guy. If we can find him a stay-at-home defenceman, and acquire a shut down LHD guy, the offence from our back end will improve dramatically.
  17. Ok, this is a @hammertime inspired trade proposal TRADE #1 (courtesy of @hammertime) To NJD: Boeser To VAN: Graves NJD have Graves, Bahl, Siegenthaler, Okhotyuk, and now Mukhamadullin coming up. All on the left side. Moving Graves frees up the spot for Mukhamadullin. Canucks get Graves, a much needed shut down defender so that OEL can be relieved of his duties and can focus on offence. TRADE #2 To CLB/DAL/other: Myers To VAN: 3rd Round Pick Columbus and Dallas first came to mind as teams that could use a big minute munching RHD like Myers. Canucks get a 3rd round pick (seems to be the standard for cap dumping defencemen that are capable defenders) TRADE #3 To ARZ: Hoglander Rathbone 3rd Round Pick (from the Myers deal) To VAN: Crouse ARZ gets 2 young up and coming propects with fantastic upside, as well as a 3rd rounder. Perfect for what they're trying to do right now. Canucks get Crouse. A fantastic forward with size, speed, grit, and looks to be just coming into his own (20 goals this year). Perfect for the Top 6 moving forward. Now to the projections: Assuming the cap goes up by $1M per year for the next 3 years, then a very conservative $2M per year after that (after escrow taken care of in 2024-25)... $8.5M x 8 for Miller $7M AAV for Horvat $9M AAV for Petey Poolman traded while retaining $750k for a bag of pucks. He becomes MUCH more tradeable at a $1.75M cap hit for a serviceable RHD. Sign Josh Manson for $5M AAV -- knowing he will play next to Hughes for the remainder of his prime career? He will sign here. Sign Ilya Lyubushkin for $2.75M AAV -- defensive defenceman for OEL to finally play offensively Sign Nic Deslauriers for $2.25M AAV. LOTS of cap space to play with, and that's WITH a significant Miller extension. When the window finally blows wide open in 3 years or so, our main pieces are all set and we STILL have millions in cap room to work with to improve on the already great core of players that are here. When Petey and Hughes hit their peak (in 3 or 4 years): Top 6: Miller-Petey-Podkolzin Garland-Horvat-Crouse Defence Core: Hughes-Manson -- 1st pairing, perfect! OEL-Lyubushkin -- 2nd pairing, unlocks OEL's offensive abilities (45 to 50pt defenceman) Graves-Dermott -- your shutdown pair Schenn/Woo (7th D) At some point, we'll have ELCs and young guys moving up. Thinking Karlsson, Woo, and others. They will help fill in the bottom 6 and bottom defence pair (or 7th D). I feel that Woo could eventually replace Lyubushkin. Also of note, in 7 or 8 years when Miller is making $8.5M and the team has $8M to $10M in cap to work with? I really don't care if he's putting up 50pts. There's room to add a Top 6 player that pushes him onto the 3rd line. Now you have even more depth. So quit your crying about him being an anchor contract. Play your cards right and it won't even matter.
  18. I really like the idea of Graves. One-for-one for Brock would be fine by me. I agree, one of the biggest goals of this offseason will be to find a way to unlock OEL's offensive abilities. We literally have a 45 to 50pt defenceman playing shut down duties right now. It's terrible use of OEL. If we can trade for Graves, and move Myers, while signing Lyubushkin or Manson to pair with OEL, that'd be a great start. Graves and Dermott would be a fantastic shut down pair. You have me interested in making another proposal with spreadsheet lol...
  19. Rutta and Lyubushkin would be great additions at relatively low cost. Are they true Top 4 RHD guys? I'm not sure, but they'd help the depth department for sure. EDIT: Researching Rutta a bit more and he's not really a defensive-minded defenceman. Lyubushkin would be much more preferable. I don't think we NEED Deangelo. What we need is to unlock OEL's offence. I think we have a 45 to 50pt defenceman sitting there playing shut down duties and playing it safe in case Myers wanders. We need a stay-at-home defenceman for OEL so that he can do his thing offensively. It'd be fantastic if we can sign Manson to play with Hughes, and Lyubushkin to play with OEL.
  20. Lol, if that happens, I will anoint my biggest adversaries on this board @stawns and @aGENT as "the greatest men to ever live on this planet" in my signature until the end of next season.
  21. Or maybe JR/PA think that this team is close to competing? That's a distinct possibility, no?
  22. Yeah, I'm with you 100%. When Luongo came here, I thought we would have a really good chance at a Cup. And it almost happened. With Demko, I feel the same way. We forget this is Demko's first full year as a starter. He's only gonna get better from here (assuming we have a decent backup for him). The biggest reason why I think we can compete with the best of them is because of that centre depth. Miller (top 10 to 15 scorer), Petey (probably the same as Miller if he was healthy under Boundreau from the beginning of the season), and Bo (31 goal scoring centres that are one of the best faceoff guys in the league don't grow on trees). THAT is the competitive advantage this team has over basically every other team in the NHL. Wingers can come and go, but when you have 3 centres down the middle that can score 30 goals each, that's a huge advantage when it comes to other teams trying to 'match up'. Let's not forget about Hughes either. He's a serious game breaker. You can see he has another gear when it matters most too, which is incredible. We just need to find a way to unleash the offence in OEL. I think we have a 40 to 50pt defenceman in OEL that isn't being utilized properly. Which is where I think we need to find him a stay-at-home defenceman so he can do his thing offensively.
  23. And Miller can't move up and down the lineup because .... he's... Miller? The point is that there's no ONE single way to win a stanley cup. PS - I was being sarcastic when referring to the anchor of an $8m player
  24. I don't think Miller will get $9m aav. I said $8m or so. It actually didn't happen that long ago that a stanley cup champion had an "anchor" 3rd liner making $8m AAV. Phil Kessel. 3rd line winger in 2017 making $8m. Equivalent to $8.5 to $9m today. https://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2017/6/5/15739808/2017-stanley-cup-final-game-4-projected-lines-penguins-predators-injuries Of course now the age card will come out... because goal posts right?
