  1. Yeah, I know the context, just saying that the "yes, ma'am" would be very relevant if his daughter wanted to stay where her friends are.
  2. No, they were much older. I think they were like 32 or 33 when they signed their extensions.
  3. Lol! I wanted Mittlestadt and Tkachuk. I don't think there's many of us that wanted OJ over Tkachuk. I know I didn't want Virtanen either. I wanted Nylander.
  4. It'll be damn interesting to see what Miller does in 5 or 6 years. Unfortunately I don't think I'll remember these conversations by then lol
  5. I just have a really hard time seeing Miller's production drop off a cliff. He has great vision on the ice... that's what I think will keep him going for years. 60+ assists tells me he should be productive well into his 30s. What I envision him as in his mid 30s is a 15 to 20 goal scorer and 50+ assist guy. That's a 65 to 70pt player.
  6. Historically the cap has increased by around 4% per year. I doubt we see that for a few years at a minimum. $1m per year is pretty much guaranteed though.
  7. I think it tells us we don't and shouldn't spend a ton on 4th line and 3rd pairing type players. Set a cap limit on those areas and stick to it.
  8. To a 60 point player? If Miller puts up 60 points as a centre while contributing in all the other areas of his game, I'd be fine with that. 8.5m in 6 to 8 years from now is not as big of a deal when the cap hit will be millions higher.
  9. Perfect. We made the mistake of assuming his production on Vancouver would be what he did on his prior teams. It's just not a wise way of assessing a player.
  10. This argument bothers me... players move around sometimes and eventually they find their fit and produce. The history of a player on another team shouldn't dictate what we expect of the player moving forward. It's clear that Miller has found his place here. Take Naslund for example. https://www.nhl.com/player/markus-naslund-8458530 In 2000-01, when he scored 41 goals and 75 points, did it make any sense that you look back into his prior years and think he wasn't gonna be anywhere near as good anymore because of his history on other teams? Namely Pittsburgh? No. He found his groove in Vancouver and you knew he wasn't just gonna fall off a cliff in terms of production. Btw, he was 28 years old too. So why are we writing off Miller based on his history with NYR and Tampa?
  11. Go back to the original argument. You wanted to discount wins for the Canucks because of the coach bump, but you simply refuse to acknowledge that the Canucks had to play multiple games without 4 of their top 5 goalies, 3 of their top 4 scorers, etc. Timing of those man games lost matter too. When they all happen at once, the team is gonna rack up some losses no matter how deep the team is. Simply ignoring that and stating that the Canucks are not as good as they are is just being ignorant.
  12. Garland If we need cap space, trade Boeser. Wingers are way easier to find.
  13. I'm confident Miller has had an impact on Podkolzin's game. He will do the same if Klimovich joins the team in the near future too.
  14. If his daughter has made friends and wants to stay, coming from a dad of 2 girls around the same age, "yes ma'am" is referring to his daughter. Not his wife.
  15. That's the attitude he's instilling in our young core. It's invaluable.
  16. The Canucks had over 500 man games lost. Even if Sutter played the entire season, they'd still have well over 400 games lost... still among the most in the entire NHL. Nevertheless, the whole point was that mll was disregarding the wins due to the coach bump but counting all the games lost when covid wiped out half the roster including 4 out of our top 5 goalies in the system and 3 of the top 4 scorers. That's like taking Kucherov, Point, Stamkos, Vasilevskiy, Elliott, and their 3rd and 5th string goalies out and telling them to win against Florida, Colorado, and Carolina.
  17. Doesn't matter. You were talking about depth. Man games lost to that extent = depth lost. 3rd most man games lost in the entire NHL and still in contention to possibly make the playoffs shows how good the depth actually is on this team. And let's get back to the original argument. When a team loses 4 out of their 5 goalies, 3 of their top scorers, etc in the same time frame, no team has the depth to overcome that. If you're gonna discount the coaching bump, then discount some losses due to the covid protocol impact.
  18. Be realistic. That stretch would be injuries on a historic level. 4 out of 5 of the team's goalies, 3 of the top 4 scorers, their best defenceman, and depth forwards on top of that? Tell me what team has the depth to overcome that. Don't tell me man games lost don't matter. The Canucks have been relatively injury free until this final stretch of the season. Most of these man games lost were due to covid:
  19. And how do you account for covid? Where the team played multiple games without half their roster and their franchise vezina caliber goaltender?
  20. The sky is the limit for Petey. At his peak, he's probably gonna be a 100pt 2-way Selke level 1C. Datsyuk comes to mind, but with a better shot. Thinking 40 goals 60 assists type of player. SUPERSTAR.
  21. Which is fine. There's clearly 2 camps of thought on Miller. And you know I'm in the camp that I believe he will be effective for at least another 4 or 5 years, so am willing to re-sign him given that his asking price isn't outrageous. I think the essence of all this is that some of us believe the current team is closer to contending, whereas others feel this team is 3 to 7 years from contending.
