[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
HKSR replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I have no idea... the best centre we've had since Henrik, and one of the best seasons by any Canuck in the history of this franchise, and yet he's still getting picked apart. Maybe this fanbase doesn't deserve him. -

Holy crap, what the hell is going on? You and I posted almost the same thing about mercenaries? Oh boy... the weekend needs to come... and quick. -

Mercenaries choose what jobs they want to accept. Miller had no choice where he went. Or perhaps Miller is sheltering Petey enough that Petey can develop properly and not have to face the opposition's top defence pairing and best shut down centre every single night. -

Maybe he thought it was a race? ... but I think he still lost lol -

Fair enough, thanks for the thoughtful banter -

I'm thinking more like a team like Tampa when they were wanting to unload cap because they couldn't afford to keep JT Miller... it's not necessarily bad contracts, but rather players that they may deem expendable, but are still effective hockey players. Looking at Tampa again, they're in cap hell for next year. They need another defenceman, and 2 more forwards to fill their roster, but they basically have no cap space. Could Cirelli or Sergachev be made available? -

[Proposal] VAN - PIT (Miller offseason)

Yknow which team fits that description? LA Kings. I'd HATE to play against Miller that many times a year though... -

I think Miller to NYR is over... Copp has been a great fit, so they have the option of simply extending him. -

I know how you feel about the Miller situation, and you know how I feel about it. Let's not dwell on it cuz it's lunchtime right now -

We would still have millions upon millions of cap space in my scenario though. Enough to take advantage of other team's cap issues and then some. -

If that is true, that JT Miller wants $10M+, then I'm ok with moving on from him. -

What the heck? Did you watch the games? Even the media was gushing over how complete of a game Miller played against Dallas as how instrumental he was in that win. Is that what his role will be moving forward? No... because his offensive ability is too good for that. I really don't think you know what you're talking about: - 4th highest scoring centre in the entire NHL (behind McDavid, Draisatl, and Matthews) - 53% on faceoffs for the entire year - 6 GWG (the most on the entire team -- which tells me he scores when we need it most) - the most assists by any Canuck since Henrik Sedin - 22 even strength goals -- 1st on the team - 54 even strength points -- 1st on the team - +11 rating (4th best on the team, 2nd best of all forwards) Yes, do tell me how he's not vital to the success of this team. Oh? Because you say so? Got it. -

Why not though? It has almost no impact on the overall picture assuming we rid ourselves of guys like Poolman and Dickinson. -

Maybe Lockwood is the guy that moves up to the 3rd line and Deslauriers on the 4th? I think Lockwood has some offensive potential. I think you rate Roslovic really high in terms of value, but here's why I don't: 1. He's an RFA due for a raise this year 2. He has actually regressed from last year, no different than Boeser, but he doesn't put up nearly the same amount of offence. 3. Heck, Myers' offensive output isn't even that far off from Roslovic, and he's a defenceman haha Anyways, here's Roslovic's stats... I think Myers is worth Roslovic 1-for-1 easily. -

I'd say there's grit on every forward line, and grit on every defence pairing. Toughness doesn't need to mean dropping the gloves. In my opinion, it means 'not putting up with sh*t"... there's plenty in that lineup that wouldn't put up with sh*t, and you have Deslauriers and Schenn to back you up. Who in that forward group do you feel is lacking speed? other than Pearson? -

I agree with both of your points. We certainly can afford to keep Boeser, but we need to bolster other areas. I also like Myers, but with the way the defense is structured, we need someone to play the stay-at-home role with OEL so he can do his thing offensively. There's serious untapped offensive game in OEL that we've seen when Hughes gets injured. We need it! -

Yeah, from year 3 onwards, there's just too much unknown to fill out the roster. So basically, with the cap space remaining, we would need to find 2 forwards... but with $10M+ in cap space, that's not that difficult to do, especially with the Top 6 still relatively intact. I agree, I think the more this team wins, the more it becomes a destination of interest for players. That includes JT Miller. I'm certain he's not a fool and sees what this team is capable of. If every player just took $250k to $500k less on their next deal, it would be a huge opportunity to build something truly special. -
30-14-9 under Boudreau... .651 hockey for 53 games or 65% of the season. That puts them 10th overall in the entire NHL if they maintained that pace.
-
Fair enough, your flowers are yours to give lol How do you explain .600+ hockey for nearly 60 games of the season though? Is it simply a fluke?

HKSR replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
We don't need to build a young core... we have a young core: Petey, Hughes, Bo, Demko, Podz, Hogs. What we need is to better support them. Prospect pool sucks because we traded away 1st and 2nd round picks. Just don't do it for a couple years and the pool will build back up. Clearly you can clear cap space in other ways (as I've shown). I really don't know how you just go out and get a superstar. Re-signing Miller doesn't hamper any of the above. -

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Deslauriers is on the Wild's 3rd line. If he's a 3rd liner on that team, he's more than qualified to be a 3rd liner on this team. Top 4 RHD have a ton of value. We're seeing that right now while trying to acquire one. The only reason we wanna get rid of a guy like that is because we've replaced him with another Top 4 RHD that better fits what our defensive group needs (ie. we don't need two 2-way types in OEL and Myers on the same pair). Roslovic has never scored 20 goals, and has only broken 40pts once (this year). Albeit he was on pace last year. So a 20 goal 40 point forward is worth more than an established Top 4 RHD? I don't think so.
