  1. Honestly, at this point, the Canucks just need to focus on winning. Win 5 in a row, and the odds are very good. A tall ask, but that's all there is to it now.
  2. Dallas is looking terrible right now... unless they turn it around quick, they could lose several down the stretch here. Nashville is in a similar situation, they've got a brutal schedule and could potentially lose several more as well. Wouldn't surprise me if the Canucks do manage to pull it off that they grab a wild card spot. Man, looking at the standings and that 1 point we lost against OTT could bite us. It could potentially be the 1 point we need to make the playoffs.
  3. Don't really need a 'big fish' for that RHD spot. Need a big time defensive defenceman like Tanev, but more durable. Not sure who that would be, but that's what we need, and won't cost $7M. Likely would be $5Mish. Put that extra $2M to acquire the elite winger for Petey. Then if Bo is actually traded, go all in and sign Filip Forsberg for $8.5M AAV. Keep Podz, Miller, and Garland together. TONS of chemistry on that line. Podkolzin-Miller-Garland Forsberg-Pettersson-Boeser
  4. Is Foligno still out? If Foligno, Greenway, and Dumba are all out, that's a lot of grit out of their lineup. Would benefit the Canucks a lot.
  5. What exactly is the problem? This clearly benefits all teams equally. If any team loses a player to LTIR, instead of penalizing them for it, they can still compete and potentially add more help later on to balance things out. For example, if a bubble team can improve their roster due to a declining player on LTIR, they could potentially dress a better team for the regular season in hopes of securing a playoff berth. it brings more competition to the table. Perhaps there are now more teams vying for playoff spots. More teams looking for additional help at the TDL promoting MORE trades. How on Earth is that a bad thing? Then the playoffs roll around, and EVERYONE is on the same playing field with the set cap in place.
  6. What are you talking about? The teams that people have issues with capitalizing on this loophole are the teams that are pretty much contenders. If COL, TB, FLA, etc do this in the regular season, what does it really do other than get them to the playoffs MORE? BETTER? FASTER? Fans don't care about that. They care about the fact these teams then add on a $10M superstar for the playoffs with immunity. They are NOT getting more cap space. They are just not losing cap space. If a team has a player worth $5M that gets injured, and replaces him with an ELC from within the system, their banked cap will be calculated on the $5M cap hit on the team's overall cap hit. In other words, it's as if that player wasn't injured in the first place. However, they can at least replace him with a player in the mean time. I'll try and reiterate this AGAIN... Right now, this system causes teams on LTIR to lose cap space, but if the timing is right, they gain HUGE from it in the playoffs -- THIS IS THE PROBLEM. We, as fans (at least I'll speak for myself) don't really care if they bank a bit of cap space to add in the regular season. The odds are these elite teams are making the playoffs anyways. IT IS THE PLAYOFFS THAT IS THE PROBLEM. PLAYOFFS, not REGULAR SEASON. Being able to dress and play a $100M roster when there is supposedly an $81.5M cap limit is asinine.
  7. I think you are missing 2 key points: 1. That there is a playoffs cap limit. If there wasn't one, I agree with you. Teams can add all they want in the regular season, but come playoff time, it's an even playing field. A team could have 150m in players during the regular season, but when the playoffs roll around, they can only dress $81.5M worth. ZERO ADVANTAGE when it matters most. Most of these teams that are at the cap limit and have LTIR space are gonna make the playoffs anyways. 2. The cap space banked is based on the GREATER OF the injured player's cap hit or the replacement cap hit. So they are no better off than they were to begin with. In the extreme example, if the team has a cap hit of $81.4M, they would continue to bank as if the injury didn't happen (with the $0.1M in cap space remaining). Due to the injury, nothing gained, but nothing lost. Why penalize a team for going on LTIR if they were under the cap to begin with? You realize right now, if the timing is right, the team gains nothing from LTIR in the regular season, but they reap HUGE benefits in the playoffs. Does that seem right to you?
  8. And how is that not fair? They're facing a key injury, they should be able to get some help. However, once in the playoffs, that extra help will be nullified. Right now people get pissed cuz teams can carry $100m in cap for the playoffs. LTIR also penalizes teams that get key injuries. How is any of this logical?
  9. How? There's no cap for the playoffs right now. My scenario has one. My scenario helps teams who face key injuries get to the big dance, but once there, they face the same limits as everybody else. Way more fair than it is now.
  10. Because of the inevitable issue of a cap in the playoffs. Allowing teams that face key injuries to bank cap space for later gives them an opportunity to upgrade for the playoff run.
  11. Start the new win streak... this time it only needs to be 5 wins in a row. Let's do it!!
  12. Damn VGK scored 2 in less than a minute. They've got the lead over WSH now.
  13. They're actually kinda falling apart... defensively they look terrible right now.
  14. I dunno, check out his last 5 games. That seems to be the benchmark: https://www.nhl.com/player/alex-chiasson-8475163 What's that? 9 points in 5 games? Booyah, top line player right there!
  15. So that makes Chiasson a top 6 forward worth probably $7m+. Got it. Sample size matters.
  16. Yeah I dunno where else the puck could have went when it disappeared from sight... maybe the post absorbed it and spat it out like a squishy cushion. Geez... imagine if that's the reason the Canucks miss the playoffs this year...
  17. Does it matter? I'm looking at an overall sample size of nearly 2 months worth of games. You looked at 5 and excluded the most recent one because it didn't fit your narrative.
  18. It's been 2 months. How many times in the past 2 months have you truly felt that Demko stole the game for the Canucks? Look, I'm not saying Demko is not a great goalie. I'm just saying the Canucks defence group is nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be.
  19. If the defence was that bad, the Canucks wouldn't be near the top of the league 5v5. Simple as that. One goalie would not be able to hold a team near the top for this long. How many games in the past 2 months would you feel that Demko STOLE the game for the Canucks?
  20. Some may call it luck... others may call it Bettman Boop.
  21. Keep going for a bigger sample size EDIT: I like how you cut out yesterday's performance to prove a point... what was it again? Oh .824 was it?
  22. Yet somehow they have one of the best 5v5 defensive stats in the entire NHL... And don't tell me it's Demko either. He hasn't been great for awhile. Good? Yes. Great? Sometimes. Since the beginning of March, he has a 10-4-5 record. His save % in that time is .909 with a GAA of 2.68. Hardly elite goaltending numbers.
