[PGT] Ottawa Senators at Vancouver Canucks | Apr. 19, 2022

Injuries and illness catching up to us now... we basically have an injured backup and a sick starter... while missing our captain. Man, why does it always seem like the odds are never in our favour. -
NHL Draft Lottery to be held on May 10th

I'd take it... Jiricek may be in that range. -
They're not spending more than $81.5M. That's still the cap limit. When a player gets put on LTIR, their cap is removed while on LTIR so that they can be replaced. However, it's upto the team on what they want to do: 1. Find a full blown replacement (ie. a $5M player for a $5M player) and worry about trying to be cap compliant later; or 2. Find a replacement in the system (which is what most teams would do), where finding a replacement in the system means the team will likely bank more cap space for later, so as they struggle without that key player in the lineup, they can make up for it by acquiring more help later. That's completely fair in my mind.

Let's just do this again... at least we can laugh about it later... -
For a team that gets a key loss, they should have some kind of benefit vs a team that has no injuries. Would the Canucks benefit if Miller or Pettersson gets hurt just so they can bank some extra cap space? And it's not like they can bank more than before either because in my scenario, the cap hit applied is the greater of the injured player's cap hit or the replacement. I think players acquired at the TDL should have a pro-rata effect on the cap for the playoffs. Something like 20% of a player's cap hit will be applied to a team acquiring a player at the TDL. That same application should continue into the playoffs, but the cap limit should still be intact. So if a team has $2M in cap space at the TDL, they could add $10M worth of players that could play in the playoffs. Rentals would be worth a fortune, which is ideal for teams that are rebuilding.

Yeah, forgot about that too. If one player has the flu, you can almost guarantee it is running through the team right now. -
Which is fine. The issue is when the player comes back from LTIR. If they need to become cap compliant once that player comes back, nothing has changed. The only difference is teams that utilize LTIR can still bank cap space and are not penalized for having a player get injured. So if a player gets injured now and goes on LTIR, they get penalized twice. Once for the fact they now have to use LTIR and find a replacement player. And again because it impacts their ability to bank cap space. In my situation, they don't get penalized for it. They simply are able to replace the player they lost to injury, and if they replace him with a lesser player for a long period of time, they bank more cap space to make up for it later. However, they STILL need to be cap compliant once the playoff starts, so there's less incentive to abuse the system in the first place.

Not making excuses, but just another possibility... Perhaps the Canucks were just exhausted last night. You could say no excuses because OTT played the night before too... but OTT has not been playing their hearts out for weeks trying to make the playoffs. I think it's safe to say the Canucks have been leaving it all on the ice for quite awhile now, so with a back-to-back where they clearly played their hearts out and had one of their best games of the year against Dallas, they might just have ran out of gas physically, but more importantly, mentally last night against OTT. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
HKSR replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Trade him to the Canucks then. I propose the following: To VAN: Horvat To VAN: Horvat Vancouver does this because they like Horvat as a player and captain. Vancouver does this because they like Horvat as a player and captain. -

It's not over yet. LA and VGK still need to win games. It's very possible that they lose 1 or 2 down the stretch here. -
(Official) - It's Back, the Magic Number Chart - 2021-2022 NHL Season
HKSR replied to cleowin's topic in Canucks Talk
I used to think that, but lately I'm realizing the top teams play it easy down the final stretch, and those non-playoff teams full of young stars play as hard as they usually would. That's the only way I can rationalize how teams like Tampa, Calgary, and others have been crapping the bed for us lately. -

Ok, I get what you're saying, but 2 things here: 1. You need more sleep! You posted after midnight, and then posted before I woke up this morning lol! SLEEP MAN! 2. I don't think we'd even be having this conversation if it wasn't for coach Green though. If the Canucks even played .500 hockey in the first 20 or so games instead of .300 hockey, we'd have an extra 4 to 5 wins. That's 8 to 10 points. Likely those wins would have come from a few of those non-playoff teams too. Everything would have been right this year if GMJB just canned Green earlier, or better yet, not extend him. -

Nevermind, I checked... so 7 of those 14 were with Green. That's 7 losses against non playoff teams in the first 20 or so games of the season. Then we've lost 7 in the next nearly 60. Got it, we suck and can't beat non playoff teams -

Curious since it looks like u did research, when were those 14 for Vancouver? With Green or with Boudreau? -

Exactly. Where have those losers been the last 6 games? Pathetic. -

And honestly, this time of year, the teams that have clinched play a lot easier than teams with a bunch of young kids trying to prove themselves. -

What about the fact they have been playing above .600 hockey for months? They've been top 10 in GF, GA, PP, and PK for the past little while now. How about that?? The reason they're fighting for a playoff spot is because of Green and his .300 hockey for 1/4 of the season. That's all there is to it. -

Oh give it a rest, the Canucks deserved to have won this game. Sens got some lucky bounces. Games like this happen, it says nothing about the quality of the team. -
