  1. I dunno... I think we've typically rushed our prospects, and so our view of player development is skewed. When you look at teams that are really good at developing players internally, I think many of the players don't join the NHL club until they near their mid 20s. I think Lockwood deserves a look on this team next year. I'm hoping Dickinson is moved, Motte moves on to the 3rd line, and Lockwood moves on to the 4th.
  2. And that's why people need to be really careful about their expectations. Many pro-trade Miller people are assuming Petey, Hughes, Podz, Hogs, etc will all make leaps and bounds in the next 4 to 5 years and become star players. Well, when Bo was in his early 20s, people would say he will be a Selke trophy winning 2C and will be our Patrice Bergeron... it's not gonna happen guys.
  3. No disrespect, but it's a stupid argument, and the guys on 650 had a whole segment talking about. You're basically taking the franchise player out of a lineup and arguing how the team would be a lot worse. Horvat and Boeser are not the equivalent of a Demko because Demko is likely top 3 or top 5 in the entire NHL at his position. This is no different than saying EDM would be so much worse if McDavid was taken out of their lineup. Matthews was taken out of TOR's lineup. Heck Miller out of the Canucks lineup (I believe the record is 1-14-1 when Miller doesn't get a point). Shesterkin out of the NYR lineup. You get the idea. EDIT: Honestly, Demko hasn't been playing AMAZING the past couple weeks. He's playing well, but not amazing, yet the Canucks keep on winning. Even last night, he didn't look that great. That should tell you what kind of team this is.
  4. There is the off chance that if Brock wants to play hardball, he could simply accept his QO 2 years in a row and walk into free agency as a UFA. I don't think Brock is that kinda guy though...
  5. I don't think Brock will get $7M... I think he'll land around $6.5M... maybe a bit less. He's an RFA, a 4 or 5 year deal brings him right to his prime where he could really cash in.
  6. The perfect bottom 6 guy... hope he re-signs. Credit to GMJB here: Motte (acquired via trade by GMJB) Highmore (acquired via trade by GMJB) Lamikko (acquired via trade by GMJB)
  7. Exactly. The 650 guys were totally going off on just how stupid of an argument it is.
  8. Yeah I think Hamonic is gone after his contract is done. Next year will be a transition year... the year after we can upgrade on him to a bonafide Top 4 RHD.
  9. Yeah, I think we need to roll with pretty much this roster for one more year before making any major tweaks. Everything will look a lot more clear next year -- whether good or bad.
  10. I hope some of the CDCers are listening to 650 right now and the the stupidest argument ever on here: "Yeah, well, if the Canucks didn't have Demko, or if he got injured, this team isn't very good." STUPIDEST ARGUMENT EVER. Like they are saying on 650 right now, DEMKO IS PART OF THIS TEAM. Take the starting franchise goaltender away from any elite team and they won't win the Cup. GET OVER IT! Demko is ours, and he's one of the best in the league. Taking him out of the lineup and arguing that the Canucks would have trouble winning is just plain stupid.
  11. I'd do it if it means clearing $5M+ in cap.
  12. Yeah, this team is capable of winning when Demko is average which says a LOT about the makeup of this team now. Our offence is scoring at over 4 goals a game on average the past little while. Helps when Petey is back... Miller and Petey is right up there in terms of a 1-2 punch down the middle.
  13. I'm one of those guys that feels Myers is a fine Top 4 RHD... can't decide on how I feel about Hamonic. For the money, he's great, but what if he made $4.5M? Not so much. I think we need to find our Top 4 RHD in UFA. There's quite a few good ones coming in the next 2 years. Pearson is good for what he costs, but I think we might be able to find a replacement internally when he ages out.
  14. If you take a look at my thread, you can see those are exactly the 2 guys I think we need to move. How we move them would be tricky, but I honestly think there's a taker for both.
  15. OH tell me about it. I got blasted on here over that thread lol. This team finally has had a chance to build chemistry and they look like the team I thought they'd be when the season started. Our defence group is the interesting bit. I would consider ourselves REALLY lucky that Schenn is playing like a real Top 4 RHD right now next to Hughes. It's a pairing that just works for whatever reason. It allows us to move Hamonic onto the 3rd pairing which means we have a Top 4 RHD on every pair. Explains why we've had one of the best defensive stats 5v5 since Boudreau has taken over.
  16. The way people talk here though makes it sound like we have: 1. Petrus Palmu 2. Carl Neill 3. Kyle Pettit 4. Miles Liberati 5. Matthew Thiessen 6. Jackson Kunz
  17. Honestly, we can keep this team pretty much intact and still add a bonafide top 4 RHD in 2 years (right when JR has said we'd be a contender).
  18. Exactly. The college free agent route is a fantastic way to restock the prospect pipeline. One or two good pickups from the college route, and making sure we take a player in the 1st round this year would add 3 good prospects to the pipeline. Chesley or Luneau should be available when the Canucks pick. Both big, capable RHD that would look great in our prospect pool.
  19. Let's not freak out here about the prospect pipeline being empty. As JR/PA have mentioned, the college and european free agency routes can make a big difference here. Signing a guy like Jake Livingstone would help a lot, and making sure to keep our 1st this year, and maybe trade Motte for a 2nd would help immensely. All of a sudden, our pipeline would look like: 1. Rathbone 2. Chesley/Luneau (big RHD with our 1st round pick) 3. Livingstone (6'4" 205lbs RHD) 4. Lockwood 5. Klimovich 6. 2022 2nd Round Pick That's a nice combination of players in different positions all pushing for spots on the big club within the next couple years.
  20. This is always the argument for people that don't hear what they want to hear... Allvin could have EASILY said "He’s playing the way you want your best player to play, but as with everything else, we will need to evaluate the entire team moving forward to place us in the best position possible to succeed." Why can't people just accept what people say at face value? Allvin literally said he would like to keep JT Miller as a Canuck and will be going down that path this summer
  21. Good. Sounds like this management knows what the right thing to do is when you have one of the premier centres in the entire NHL on your team. You find cap space elsewhere... not by trading your best player, and a potential Hart trophy candidate.
  22. Lol ok... Seabrook: https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=55395 Schneider: https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=202373 You let me know when Schneider catches up to Seabrook's consistent numbers (right through junior and into the NHL). I'll eat crow if Schneider turns into a Seabrook. EDIT: I'd say he's more of a Connor Murphy than a Seabrook. Is that a bad thing? No. Would I trade JT Miller for Connor Murphy? Definitely not.
  23. What it looks like to me is that the top tier elite players are getting more, and the middle class tier of players are getting less. The Pietrangelos and Hamiltons got the huge pay days, but most, if not all of the middle tier guys got $4 to $5M (give or take).
  24. Yes, it would be downright stupid. It sends a BRUTAL message to the rest of the team when they've been playing their hearts out to try and make the playoffs.
  25. It just means we'll have arguments until draft day lol
