  1. We will have trouble scoring with that lineup unless the young guys really take another major step in their development. We are erasing 50 goals and 150 points out of the lineup with Miller and Boeser....
  2. I dunno, I'm going off what JR has said about this team. Don't really care about the Oilers or Leafs. They don't have one of the best 5v5 defensive stats in the league.
  3. I think we should be careful of tipping the balance too far the other way. At the end of the day, the Canucks have been one of the best 5v5 defensive teams since Boudreau has taken over... but yet we are taking away offense to add to our strength. Even Rutherford said he can work with this defence, but was more concerned with our forwards....
  4. What does your forward group look like with Boeser and/or Miller moved? Hogs-Petey-Podz Pearson-Bo-Garland ???-???-??? Motto Somehow I think 'goal support' is gonna be a very common term if we go down this route...
  5. So we move out Miller and Boeser, but don't need to replace them??
  6. So where does Poolman slot in as a full time every day player? Hughes-Schenn OEL-Myers Hunt-Hamonic Burroughs
  7. Canucks Top 4 in terms of actual pairings: Hughes and ________ OEL and Myers Fill in the blank... 1. Schenn 2. Hamonic
  8. I think Hamonic actually plays 3rd pairing here though because for whatever reason Schenn works so darn well with Hughes, then Myers is with OEL... which means Hamonic gets 3rd pairing minutes. Gives us nice depth because of that.
  9. I think there's a taker for Dickinson out there... maybe even back to Dallas. I just don't think we can expect to get our 3rd back. Dickinson can play, he just doesn't seem to fit in here. I didn't mean Hamonic = Burroughs... I mean Burroughs would take those minutes on the 3rd pairing. He'd be the replacement.
  10. Dickinson = Re-signed Motte (2.5M), Lockwood moves up to 4th line duties (850k) Poolman = 7th D (750k) Hamonic = Burroughs Halak = Martin (800k) OUT: $9,650,000 IN: $4,900,000 Savings of $4,750,000
  11. Seabrook was actually a very capable defenceman offensively, so probably not a good example. I know where you're coming from, but a defensive defenceman is not, and should not be the primary target for one of the best centres in the world right now.
  12. Dickinson + Poolman + Hamonic + Halak = $9,650,000 I actually like what Hamonic brings, so I'd keep him if possible, but the other guys combine for $6,650,000.
  13. That's fine by me, but it doesn't mean what GMJB was doing was wrong either. If anything it shows that he was doing the right thing by fixing mistakes. Don't look now, but this current hockey team playing nearly .700 hockey for months now is the team that GMJB put together.
  14. GMs make mistakes. I'll take a GM that identifies mistakes and does something to fix it. Look out, because Jim Rutherford is known to do this... a LOT. Why do you think he makes so many trades?
  15. I just think there's more to the story than what everyone clamours onto. Like I said before, GMJB was clearly looking to pry OEL and Garland out of ARZ. He must have been close because it happened eventually, just too late because he ended up losing Tanev and Toffoli without getting the replacements in OEL and Garland until the following season. If the ARZ trade happened when it was rumoured to be, we would not have even seen the Schmidt trade.
  16. I'm always good with agreeing to disagree. There's no way we can all agree on the same thing... otherwise I'd have nothing to do at work while surfing CDC
  17. True... and I think the rule is that we cannot give credit to Benning for building this current Canucks team that is playing nearly .700 hockey for just under half a season now. Benning BAD. BAD BAD BAD.
  18. Well, the reason they went and got Holtby was primarily to help shoulder the load with Demko. That was clear as day when the signing occurred. I trust that was the right decision, and like I said, if it had any tiny ounce of traction in helping Demko develop into the goaltender he is today, then job well done.
  19. That would be insane. Wouldn't matter who is in net at that point lol
  20. I look at it as he identified dead cap in the lineup, and did what he needed to do to move it out, while also gaining useful players in return. You need to realize MOST cap dumps are 1st round picks going the other way, and next to nothing coming back. The fact he was able to dump LE, Roussel, and Beagle with a 1st round pick and 2nd round pick, while bringing back Garland and OEL is pretty savvy.
  21. Like I said before, if signing Holtby helped in the development of Demko in any shape or form, then he was worth it. I don't have an issue at all given how Demko turned out.
  22. I think you know Clark has a TON of say in what happens with the goaltenders in this organization. If you think decisions are made about our goaltenders without Clark's primary input, you're out to lunch on how impactful Clark is.
  23. I think $2.5M AAV is where it will land. Any higher is probably a bit too much. Any lower and I'd be pleasantly surprised.
