  1. How is that lacking compassion? It's just an observation and is a completely separate issue from his concussion. I think it absolutely sucks that Byram is going through this, but I also recognize that Byram is a professional athlete. He really should be speaking for himself and not having his mom and dad relay information to the media. When was the last time you heard ANY NHL player have their mom and/or dad relay messages to the media???
  2. Trading Miller and Boeser would leave massive holes in the Top 6. Unfortunately, UFA is a terrible way to fix that issue as you will: 1. Have to pay top dollar 2. Most UFAs will be at least 27 years old, most are 29 years or older 3. Will have to sign the UFA to long term deals If we did go the UFA route, we'd have to find middle tier guys that could fill in as the youth on this roster push their way up. We would also have to draft our way back. That's the reality of it. So IF Miller and Boeser are traded, we NEED to bring back NHL ready guys on top of the prospects and picks. We can't go all in on futures only.
  3. I dunno what Pittsburgh plans to do... this trade doesn't save them any cap at all, so I'm not sure if this is the route they want to go, or something else. You'd think if a RHD of Marino's calibre became available, and at that great cap hit, there'd be many other teams lined up for a trade. It'd make sense of the Pens to get a much cheaper option on the wing to save cap for Rust.
  4. I think the important thing here is not what may or may not be true about Brock's personality or character. Nor should we hold it against McCann that he said what he said. What is the most important thing here is identifying the fact that Brock's hair is in the 1% of all peoples on the planet.
  5. OH man, I feel like this is a choose your own adventure where I die either way lol
  6. I've convinced myself to the fact that Halak won't waive and we're stuck with his bonus cap hit next year... I'd be pleasantly surprised if JR/PA can move him.
  7. Are you suggesting Byram would bump Hughes out of the Canucks lineup???
  8. lol, I thought about that... but man, I look at their cap situation next year, and I don't see how they can keep Malkin, Letang, and Rust. Something needs to give there unless Malkin and Letang take serious discounts.
  9. That's fair... but man, I have a hard time thinking of many NHLers in general that have come back from serious concussions to lead a really good NHL career other than Crosby.
  10. You do, but not if it means it leaves a wide open hole on your RHD. Right now they have Letang and Marino covering the 2 Top 4 spots on RHD. To take one of them away and hope to make it deep into the playoffs using Poolman as your second RHD would be foolish. In other words, it makes more sense to keep Marino (a 24yo Top 4 RHD locked in at a very reasonable $4.4M for the next 5 years).
  11. I don't... I had to tweak it a bit to make it work... Canucks get Nathan Mackinnon Gabriel Landeskog Cale Makar Mikko Rantanen Samuel Girard Bowan Byran Logan O'Connor Tyson Jost Erik Johnston Oskar Olausson 2022 3rd round pick 2023 1st round pick 2039 6th round pick Avalanche get Elias Pettersson Quinn Hughes Thatcher Demko Brock Boeser Bo Horvat JT Miller Tyler Motte Luke Schenn Martin Spencer Spencer Martin 2026 2nd round pick 2027 4th round pick Future Considerations
  12. Does it matter? Crosby came out and spoke to media directly during his concussion years. Byram has had mom and dad speak to media.
  13. Michael Ferland Eric Lindros Paul Kariya Pat Lafontaine Marc Savard Keith Primeau Adam Deadmarsh Peter Mueller Matthew Barnaby Geoff Courtnall etc etc The list is VERY long vs the list of players that came back to have SUCCESSFUL careers after major and multiple concussions.
  14. I really like Brock as a person. He's genuine, and just an all around nice guy. Because of that, I'm hoping he's not greedy and comes in at a fair deal. $6M to $6.5M AAV is fair, and it'd be awesome to keep him at that range for 4 or 5 years anyways. Our team has a lot of firepower when it's clicking... the fact we've averaged over 4 GPG in the last little while tells a lot.
  15. I like it, but the only problem is I don't think Marino would be traded without a comparable RHD replacement going the other way. I can't see the Penguins walking into the Playoffs with Poolman as their 2nd pairing RHD lol
  16. Like I said to that poster as well, wait until he plays again before talking about franchise defenceman. Crosby had 2 or 3 concussions over the course of his career. Byram has had 3 in his first 2 seasons and was contemplating quitting hockey altogether less than 6 months ago. I laugh because it's setting an unbelievably high bar for someone that has his health concerns ahead of everything else. Is he gonna just step right back into the league as basically a rookie again and light it up? I have serious doubts. EDIT: Based on how he has reacted so far going to his mom and dad, and telling them he can't do this anymore tells me he doesn't have the same mental fortitude as Sidney Crosby either.
  17. Wasn't laughing about Byram... was laughing at the poster lol
  18. I don't disagree with that. I'd really like to see Garland on PP1.
  19. Gotta give credit where credit is due... he was pretty darn good last year... on pace for 34 goals and 72 points would put him right up there in the NHL. In fact, he finished 29th overall in NHL scoring last year (21st overall in goals). If the "bar" is the entire NHL, then he did pretty good lol
  20. I tend to agree actually. $6M to $6.5M depending on term. If 3 or 4 years, then $6M. Longer than that, and I'd say $6.5M.
  21. I wouldn't trade Rathbone forr Helenius... and most people wouldn't because Rathbone is more valuable than Helenius.
  22. Is that over a career? I tend to look at the past 3 years or so... otherwise we would look at Miller's entire career and say he's not worth more than $7M lol The past 3 years has: McCann: .30gpg .62ppg Boeser: .33gpg .77ppg That's about a 2 goal and 12 points difference over the course of 82 games. Is Boeser worth more? Yes. Is he worth $2M+ more? NO.
  23. Well, if he does sign for something between $5M and $6M, you can guarantee this entire core will stay together because we could definitely afford Miller at $9M+ then.
  24. In fairness, Brock's offensive output has been consistent over the past 5 years. You're pretty much guaranteed 25+ goals and 50 to 60 points at a minimum. A good season for him would be 35+ goals and 70+ points.
  25. Like I said, I don't think he's worthless, but he cannot be the centrepiece of a package deal. The other piece needs to be the main piece, and Byram as a secondary piece. People touting Miller for Byram, "some middling NHLer", and a late 1st is a terrible deal for the Canucks.
