  1. Obviously we'll have to wait and see... but that release of his can't be taught. He's the all time record holder for goals in a season for the NTDP. Kessel hit 52 goals twice. P. Kane also hit 52 goals. Matthews at 2nd place had 55 goals in a single season. Caufield? He holds 3rd and 1st... 54 goals in 2017-18... but get this... 72 goals in 2018-19. He obliterated the record book. If he wasn't so small, he would have been drafted in the Top 3.
  2. He's gonna be an elite sniper... you can see it already. His release is elite level. He'll need the right line mates though.
  3. Different era in scouting... but pretty cool... almost as much as: 6th Round, 113th overall 437 goals, 779 points in 702 games... HHOFer. (bonus points for anyone that knew who this was before clicking the link) https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=662
  4. Not too shabby of a career for a 7th round pick @ 194 OA
  5. So here is probably a good indicator for this year's draft ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_NHL_Entry_Draft 2012 wasn't that strong of a draft year. Buffalo acquired 14th OA from Calgary for 21st OA and 42nd OA. So 7 spots in the mid to mid-late range cost a 2nd round pick. Even in that weak draft.
  6. Had a chance to look through some previous drafts and it appears the going rate for moving up in drafts is: Mid 1st round movement (ie. 14 to 11, or 17 to 14) is a 2nd round pick. Late 1st round movement (ie. 26 to 23, or 28 to 25) is a 3rd round pick. Again, this is based on historical transactions that have occurred on draft day. So for the Canucks to move from 9 to 6 (pretty rare to see this happen), I'd say it'd be a 2nd round pick + a bit more... maybe a 2nd and a 4th or something. Pretty costly, so I doubt it would happen.
  7. Yeah I did a quick check going back into the 1980s, and only 1 team appears to have won a cup with two defencemen in their 3 pairings that are sub 6'. It was Detroit... Lebda and Rafalski, but Lidstrom played half the game all the time, so it didn't matter much lol
  8. I just really don't see the Canucks winning a cup with two sub 6' guys in the core... Hughes and Rathbone are good players, don't get me wrong, but when the playoffs roll around, these 2 are gonna get exposed defensively no matter how good they are. Has any Stanley Cup winner in the past 20 years had two defencemen under 6' on their roster? (honest question)
  9. The bigger question is, who would you rather have as GM... Sakic or Yzerman?
  10. Unrealistic? Yes. Fun? Yes. Dare to dream lol... UFA Signings and Extensions -- Sign UFA Dougie Hamilton at $8.5M x 6 years -- Sign UFA Erik Haula at $2M x 2 years -- Petey extended on bridge deal at $6.5M x 3 years TRADE #1 To Van: Colton Parayko (with $1M retained for the 1 year remaining) 2021 17th OA Pick (1st Round) To STL: Quinn Hughes Antoine Roussel Signing Hamilton means Hughes is expendable. TRADE #2 To Van: Ryan Graves To COL: Jack Rathbone 3rd Round Pick COL sheds some cap space and acquires a great prospect in Rathbone and a 3rd round pick. I don't feel the Canucks will be winning any cups with both Hughes and Rathbone as sub 6'0" defencemen in the D-core. 2021 NHL Draft Picks -- Canucks select Mason McTavish 9th overall -- Canucks select Aatu Raty 17th overall 2021-22 assumptions: -- Kraken is provided a sweetener in the form of Jonah Gadjovich and a 2nd round pick to take Holtby -- Beagle traded with $1M retained -- Goodbye Virtanen Assumptions for Future Years: -- Boeser signs a $7M AAV extension -- Horvat signs a $6.5M AAV extension -- Parayko signs a $6.5M AAV extension -- Graves signs a $4.5M AAV extension -- Miller walks at the end of his deal -- Hogs and Podz get bridge deals at $4M AAV when ELCs are done -- Top 6 in 2022-23 onwards could be someone like Max Domi, Nino Niederreiter, Reilly Smith, etc The RHD side means every single pairing has a 6'6" or bigger defenceman on the ice at all times lol
  11. I would go for Hamilton if it was $8.5M AAV for say 5 or 6 years. That brings him to 33 or 34 years old. Dare I say it, if we brought in Hamilton, we could basically trade Hughes and make room for someone like Parayko. Last but not least, somehow pry Graves out of Colorado. Then man oh man, what a beast of a defence core we would have... Schmidt Hamilton (6'0" and 6'6") Graves Parayko (6'5" and 6'6") Juolevi Myers (6'2" and 6'7") I'd feel bad for the LWers on the opposing team having to face at least a 6'6" monster every damn shift lmao We simply won't win in the playoffs with 2 sub 6' defencemen in Hughes and Rathbone.
  12. Yeah, but in hindsight, you can see the value was actually quite equal... PK is an offensively gifted defenceman that could put up nearly a PPG. Weber on the other hand is just a beast of a defenceman. Does everything well, but doesn't put up huge numbers. We all know he's deadly from the point though with that cannon of a slapshot. Makes me ponder a bit on whether or not Hughes is our version of PK. Big offensive numbers, but a defensive game that has much to be desired. Although you look around the league and there really isn't a Shea Weber equivalent in around the age of mid-20s that would be worth trading Hughes for. If Parayko was 3 or 4 years younger, then I would seriously consider trading Hughes for Parayko+ as I think those kinda defencemen are the ones you need and want to win a cup.
  13. Oh man, move aside Zarley Zalapski and Cal Clutterbuck... we have a new champion for best name for a hockey player: At 6'3" and 214lbs, I'm sure he's anything but shy... lmao Shai Buium https://thehockeywriters.com/shai-buium-2021-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/
  14. Screw this! Just come back and play guys! You'd probably power our 3rd line all the way to a Cup! Boeser Petey Miller Pearson Bo Hoglander Daniel Henrik Podz Motte Beagle Highmore DONE.
  15. Yeah, he's definitely a player I'm gonna follow to see how things pan out for him...
  16. Doing a bit more research, IF Bjorkloven is actually a strong team. 3rd in the standings. MODO was actually the crappier team... https://www.sofascore.com/team/ice-hockey/if-bjorkloven/3747
  17. I don't think he'll drop that far. He's ranked in the 40s on most rankings. Too much potential given his skating ability, creativity, and size. He put up 9 pts in 27 games in the men's league.
  18. I know we don't need another winger more than we need RHD and C... but man oh man, this guy would be a great pickup in the 2nd round... Get this... born in Ornskoldvisk... product of MODO... if that isn't a sign of the success to come, I don't know what is. Edit: A bit more on him... 6'3" frame, already plays in the mens league, good skater, strong on the edges, excellent stick handler, plays hard along the boards, and creative with the puck. Not afraid to play physical either.

Agreed... I caught him talking about it last season... lemme see if I can find the pic... oh here it is:
  20. Gotta admit I haven't seen a whole lot of Sillinger... definitely have me intrigued. Brb while I scout him using YouTube lmao Edit: First impressions... average skater, good stick handler. He looks very comfortable and capable in the offensive zone, but boy, he has a lot to learn about the defensive side of the puck. Weak on back checks, and seems to regularly fail to cover his man in the defensive zone.
  21. If any GM is gonna go off the board with a head scratcher (but usually pans out) is good ol Jarmo in Columbus. He'll end up picking Aatu Raty or something lol Edit: Just wanted to see how off the board he usually goes... 2020 - 21st OA - Yegor Chinakhov (not even ranked in the Top 93 on Bob McKenzie's list lol) 2019 - No 1st round pick 2018 - 18th OA - Liam Foudy (ranked 29 on Bob McKenzie's list) 2017 - No 1st round pick 2016 - 3rd OA - Pierre Luc-Dubois (good choice in hindsight, but over Puulujarvi back then was a shocker) Anyways, go Jarmo!! There's a guy ranked 92 on Bob McKenzie's list called Riley Kidney! Cool name! Pick him Jarmo!
