Bluejackets are in need of forwards to expose for expansion draft
HKSR replied to HKSR's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Sounds like the problem is a team must expose a minimum of 2 forwards if they are protecting 7. CBJ protects: Atkinson, Nyquist, Domi, Jenner, Bjorkstrand, Roslovic, and Robinson as their 7. These guys are the outliers: - Grigorenko is off to Europe under contract so won't be available for exposure - Laine is an RFA - Stenlund is an RFA That's it. They have a problem for sure. -
Whaaaaaat?? https://thehockeywriters.com/blue-jackets-serious-looming-issue-with-expansion-draft/?fbclid=IwAR1MKKdEYUjpU3vhzpC0SNT1a1LFHe0oWR2Ia7WRgbFCqVShyraqvsCtHjQ I'm here when you need me CBJ...

The problem is he has a shoot first mentality.

I don't see Lucius as the kinda play driver the Canucks need. The Canucks have guys that can shoot the puck in Petey, Boeser, Miller, Bo and even Hogz to a certain extent. The Canucks need someone that can drive the play and be creative with the puck to get it to these guys.

Don't get me wrong. Edler has been one of this franchises' best defencemen of all time. He has been a steady top pairing defenceman for years for us. Edvinsson, IMO, does everything a bit better than Edler. Whether or not he puts it all together in the NHL for an entire career remains to be seen, but I believe that is the reason why Edvinsson was ranked as high as #2 or #3 this past year on draft rankings. IF he puts it all together, I see him as a #1 all situations defenceman.

[Signing] Maple Leafs re-sign Jason Spezza
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He's actually good value at $750k ...I'd say he's better value than Marner, or Matthews, or Tavares... LOL! -
I think he does everything a bit better than Edler.

[Signing] Avalanche re-sign Jayson Megna
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
How is he still playing?! -
I don't agree with this at all. Edvinsson is quite elusive on skates and his skating just looks awkward due to his size. If you watch him play, he accelerates quite well and his edgework is fantastic. Top speed may be limited, but he's a defenceman, so acceleration is more important. Compete is also much higher than just average. Again, just watch him play. Puck skills is higher than average too. He stickhandles very well in traffic. In the write-up, he even talks about all of this lol I'd rate him more like this: Skating: Above Average Puck Skills: Above Average Hockey Sense: Average Compete: Above Average TIER 3: Projected top of the lineup player

This deal hinges on whether or not Scott Morrow is available at Pick #33. Canucks acquire: Sam Reinhart Buffalo's #33 2nd Round Selection Sabres acquire: Canucks #9 1st Round Selection Canucks #41 2nd Round Selection Antoine Roussel Canucks shed $3M in salary, while also acquiring Reinhart for the Top 6. With #33 OA, Canucks select Scott Morrow (https://thehockeywriters.com/scott-morrow-2021-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/).

McTavish is the counterpunch to every Tkachuk that steps onto the ice. On a side note, I would like to see the Canucks trade up from their 2nd round pick to snag Morrow if at all possible.

[Rumour] Devils interested in Rasmus Ristolainen
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Another Sabres note for you all: the Canucks have interest in defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, according to multiple sources. The Canucks have the assets (picks and prospects) that could make a deal work for Buffalo. Glaring need at RHD. -
Wow... finally... we're getting there... Now we need to ramp up those 2nd doses! That delta variant is looming...

Nah, I think it came down to his recent performance at the U18s. He looked fantastic out there.

Will the Canucks ever be able to win the cup without a top three pick?
HKSR replied to RU SERIOUS's topic in Canucks Talk
This is such an easy obstacle to overcome. We just need to go out and coerce Patrik Stefan out of retirement. Sign him and we're good. -
Really glad the Canucks didn't drop in the lottery. Like GMJB said, I think there's a really good Top 9. Maybe Top 10.

[Signing] Ian Clark has been signed

It's GMJB... he did this! FIRE JIM BENNING! -
[Report] Canucks announce coaching staff updates
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
There was a time when Vancouver was called the goalie graveyard. Now we're truly a goalie factory... with the only problem being goalie controversies lol. Now if we can just pry whoever the defensive coach is out of Nashville, we could be a goalie and defenceman factory. -

[Report] Canucks announce coaching staff updates

With Clark locked in for 5 years and Demko for 5 years, I think Wallstedt would be the perfect player to pick at #9OA. Allows the flexibility to move Dipietro to acquire help in other areas. -
James Norris Memorial Trophy finalists unveiled
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Yeah, and many other cup winners. I'd love for the Canucks to work on that piece. We need big, bruising defencemen. For that reason, I'd actually like to see Rathbone moved and keep Juolevi as I feel OJ would be better suited for playoff hockey. Hughes is the only small defenceman I'd like the Canucks to keep. Myers turns it up a notch in the playoffs. He actually becomes a mean defenceman. Hamonic is excellent for the same reasons as Myers. He'd also come cheap. Would love to see the Canucks add another big defenceman with a bit of a mean streak... Zadorov would be fantastic. Schmidt-Zadorov Hughes-Hamonic (this pair works well, just needs to play less minutes) Juolevi-Myers -

Makar is an incredible offensive talent, but from an all-around top defenceman, Hedman owns this league. He can do it all, and he has the size as well. I'd like to see a top offensive defenceman award and a top defensive defenceman award... name them after Bobby Orr for offensive obviously, and then someone like Rod Langway for defensive. -
[Proposal] Yes, Seth Jones fits within the cap NOW.

So by mid/late round pick, are you saying Juolevi, Lind, and/or Gadjovich could be had for a 4th to 7th round pick? -
[Rumour] Kings looking to acquire two top-6 forwards
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He's clutch too! Just look at all the empty net goals he scores! They're always a difference maker. -
There has been so much pressure on OJ to become a Top 2 defenceman, but in reality, I think he will top out as a Top 4. Which is completely fine at this stage given the top pairing LHD is Quinn Hughes. Watching OJ play this past season, you can see the swagger, the size and strength, and the puck moving ability. Honestly, I see Alec Martinez as a comparable, or even Jonas Brodin. Give OJ a couple more years and he will be a regular in the Top 4 and be able to eat some big minutes.
