PLD cost the Jets Patrik Laine... in other words, PLD isn't going anywhere for a long time.

[Rumour] Kings looking to acquire two top-6 forwards
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Was gonna say they should probably move on from Doughty, but man oh man, I had no idea there was still 6 more years of Doughty at $11M AAV !!! Holy crap talk about an anchor contract... Doughty's cap hit is only $1.5M less than Connor McDavid, and he's 31 years old... and this is for another 6 years...... let that sink in... -
[Proposal] Yes, Seth Jones fits within the cap NOW.

Juolevi will likely never become the 5OA player he was drafted to be, but I could definitely see him becoming a player like Alec Martinez or Jonas Brodin. Very serviceable and quality Top 4 defenceman with good size, plenty of mobility, and excellent puck moving abilities. The LAST thing Juolevi is is TRASH though. That's the problem I have with your assessment. -

Juolevi just turned 23 years old. That's another thing, so many CDCers give up on our prospects before they've even had a chance. Sedins are a prime example. They were ridiculed and thrown under buses left and right for years! If you've actually paid attention when OJ plays, you can see quite clearly that he will become a steady Top 4 defenceman with very good vision and mobility. He has way more value than what Canucks fans make him out to be. And seriously? You rank him based on his scoring prowess? You do realize he's a defenceman right? LMAO. And what about Kole Lind and Jonah Gadjovich? Oh right, they're garbage too. Especially Gadjovich, his garbage output of 15 goals in 19 games this year makes him clearly a POS prospect. Kole Lind too... 52pts in his last 69gms in the AHL and previously 95pts in 58gms in the WHL make him a worthless pile too. Don't get me started on the draft picks. A 40th overall pick is also worthless, it's not in the Top 39. Oh, and a 1st round pick next year is crap too... I understand now. -

I don't see the Kings at that stage. They're probably closer to unloading guys like Kopitar, Doughty, and Brown, than they are to adding Seth Jones at $8M+ and aged in his late 20s already. -

After reading that article, I have my doubts on whether I'd want Jones next to Hughes. That could be an expensive disaster... especially if Baumgartner is still around lol. Jones is probably akin to Doughty. Mind you Doughty was better overall in his prime... but I could see Jones being that type of defenceman. More offensive oriented. -

And then what? I guess he could be a rental for a top tier team... ? I don't see a rental scenario where a top tier team would give up a LOT of assets though. -

I just can't see Detroit, NJ and LA giving up their rebuild process to bring in an $8M+ AAV, 27 year old defenceman. They're simply not at that point in their rebuild progress. Dallas I could see. The Avs won't take him cuz he would blow-up their internal cap structure. The Oilers have nothing to offer. Chicago doesn't have much to offer right now either. I could definitely see Philly being an option. Something around Sanheim and Nolan Patrick. Winnipeg ... maybe... -

Read my other post. I'd like to hear which teams want Jones badly enough and would be willing to unload the farm for him while also being cap compliant. -

Was just going through those mid-tier teams... y'know who I think would be all over this? Minnesota Wild. They trade Dumba now for the assets they need to acquire Jones, but they acquire Jones AFTER the expansion draft. -

I can't see Toronto enticing CBJ with what they would offer. They keep talking Marner, but why would CBJ do that? Montreal is interesting, but what CBJ would want out of Montreal would likely start with Suzuki or Kotkaniemi. I'm not sure I can see Montreal wanting to make such a big move after the success they're seeing this offseason. -

HKSR replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
You gotta remember, if CBJ is truly looking for futures, the team trading away the futures have to check the following boxes: 1. Want to add likely $8M+ AAV to their cap for years 2. Have enough prospects and picks to entice CBJ 3. Want to add a soon-to-be 27 year old defenceman RIGHT NOW... So you see articles like this: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/seven-contenders-land-blue-jackets-seth-jones-trade/ You have true rebuilding teams right now like LA, Anaheim, NJ, Detroit, etc. Why would they want to add an $8M cap hit for a defenceman coming into his late 20s? Then you have the top tier teams that would LOVE to add Jones. Problem is, they don't have much in the prospect pool to trade, and then there's that cap hit issue again. The most likely trade is gonna happen with a mid-tier team. A team like the Canucks, Sens, Calgary, Arizona, etc. Are these teams capable of putting together a package that is THAT much more enticing than this? It wouldn't be easy. Oh, and add to the fact that everybody and their dog knows that Jones wants out. How much leverage do you think CBJ actually has here? They HAVE to trade him otherwise he walks as a UFA after next season. Jones is being WAY overvalued like he's Erik Karlsson in his prime. -

This was under the assumption that has CBJ looking to rebuild. If that's the case, this is a serious haul in terms of rebuilding. These young players are NHL capable too... we've seen them play, and they can contribute. Still tons of potential in all 3, let alone adding a high 2nd round pick and potentially a 1st round pick next year. That's 5 quality prospects. But of course, typically CDC way undervalues our own assets and overvalues every other team's assets. So for many CDCers, Juolevi, Lind, and Gadjovich are all crap tier prospects, and a 2nd round pick and 1st round pick are worthless too. -

So what do the lines look like? They look beautiful lol... 2021-22 Boeser Petey Miller Hogs Bo Podz Pearson Sutter Highmore Motte Beagle MacEwen Lockwood Hughes Jones Schmidt Myers Rathbone Hamonic 7D 2022-23 Boeser Petey Miller Hogs Bo Podz Pearson Sutter Lockwood Motte McTavish MacEwen (I would love to see this line in action lol) ELC/13F Hughes Jones Schmidt Myers Rathbone Hamonic 7D 2023-24 Boeser Petey Podz Hogs Bo _____ Pearson Sutter Highmore Motte Beagle MacEwen ELC/13F Hughes Jones Schmidt Myers Rathbone Hamonic 7D -
To Van: Seth Jones To CBJ: Olli Juolevi Kole Lind Jonah Gadjovich 2021 2nd Round Pick 2022 1st Round Pick (Conditional -- if Canucks fail to make the playoffs, this pick becomes a 2nd round pick) VAN does this for obvious reasons, to pair Jones with Hughes for years to come. CBJ does this to seriously jump start their rebuild. Three young and quite promising prospects that are ready for the next step and capable of playing on an NHL roster now, while also getting a high 2nd round pick this year, and possibly a 1st round pick next year (or another 2nd). So what does this look like long-term? 2021-22 assumptions include: -- Petey and Hughes extended on bridge deals at $6.5M x 3yrs -- Re-signing Sutter at $2.5M x 3yrs, same with Hamonic -- Roussel traded for a bag of pucks -- Goodbye Virtanen -- Kraken takes Holtby (may need to make a side deal for this to happen) -- Canucks select Mason McTavish 9th overall 2022-23 and the future assumptions: -- Jones signs an $8M AAV extension -- Boeser signs a $7M AAV extension -- Horvat signs a $6.5M AAV extension -- Miller walks or is traded in a couple years -- Hogs and Podz get bridge deals at $4.5M AAV when ELCs are done -- Petey and Hughes sign extensions at $8.5M AAV for 2024-25 onwards So as you can see, the issues come in 2024-25. Need 4 more forwards including a Top 6 with $9.225M in cap space, and then 5 forwards in 2025-26 with $11.075M in cap space. Who knows where the cap will be then though.

[Rumour] Seth Jones to test FA
HKSR replied to KariyaSakicAnderson's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Has there been any talk on what CBJ actually wants in return for Jones? Are they in rebuild mode now? Or do they want something specific back? (ie. Top 6 centre)? -
I think you underestimate the value of that 9OA pick.
-
Probably sick of hearing about Seth Jones, but if this is what it took to get him in a Canucks uniform next year (and assuming the Canucks get to speak to him regarding a contract extension first)... would you do it? To VAN: Seth Jones To CBJ: 9OA Nate Schmidt Kole Lind

[value of] seattle 2nd overall

Oh, btw... Here's the Karlsson deal: Traded from Ottawa Senators with Francis Perron to San Jose Sharks for Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers, Chris Tierney, Dylan DeMelo, round 2 pick in the 2019 draft (Jamieson Rees), conditional round 1 pick in the 2020 draft (Tim Stutzle), conditional round 2 pick in the 2021 draft and conditional round 1 pick in the 2022 draft So OTT got: Norris -- top tier prospect (1st round pick 19OA, 61pts in 56gms in AHL, strong showing in the WJC... he was much more than just a decent prospect) Balcers - ok a bit of a throw in Tierney -- just came off a 17 goal, 40pt performance (2nd line forward -- ie. Top 6) Demelo -- a solid Top 4 Dman, RHD as well which brings even more value 2nd Rounder TWO conditional 1st Rounders and one conditional 2nd Rounder -

HKSR replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I think of the possibilities of what you could acquire dangling TWO 1st round picks and a 3rd round pick out there.... Imagine putting a package together of: Schmidt 1st round pick (9th OA) in 2021 1st round pick in 2022 3rd round pick in 2021 That's probably close to acquiring Seth Jones. -
Unfortunately, or fortunately I guess... Team Canada got another gear to them after Mangiapane arrived.
