  1. Yeah, it's not like Marner is a bad player. It's just that sometimes players are paid more than they're currently worth, so are causing issues in a team environment. We see these examples everywhere... Ie. If Marner made $7M instead of $10M, or if Nugent Hopkins made $4M instead of $6M+, or if Loui Eriksson made a loonie instead of $6M.
  2. No... Deangelo clearly has character issues. I rather spend the extra -- Raymond, Ballard, and 1st for Troy.
  3. Just to bring this back for more conversation. Looks like "The Athletic" did a mock draft and ended up with Canucks taking McTavish as well. We will see. I guess with the lottery completed, my picks look like: 1 Buffalo - Brandt Clarke - Sabres couldn't pass up the opportunity to have Dahlin and Clarke as their top pairing for years to come 2 Seattle - Matthew Beniers - Way too much talent to pass up a player of this calibre at #2, not to mention the marketing of a star centre for the expansion team 3 Anaheim - Owen Power - Paired with Drysdale, the Ducks are set on defence for a long, long time. 4 New Jersey - Luke Hughes - The connection to Jack Hughes is a marketing powerhouse in the making, not to mention Jack Hughes is an excellent defenceman 5 Columbus - William Eklund - Eklund lands into Columbus' lap. There is no way the CBJ pass up on him here at #5. 6 Detroit - Kent Johnson - Already in Michigan, this is a perfect match for Detroit 7 San Jose - Simon Edvinsson - Burns and Karlsson are aging out. Time to add a potential franchise defenceman to their pool 8 LA - Jesper Wallstedt - LA is stacked with prospects, but with Quick aging fast, Wallstedt is clearly the perfect replacement 9 Vancouver - Mason McTavish - With a floor of a top tier 3C, and potential for at least 2C, McTavish brings the size and grit that the prospect pool desperately needs 10 Ottawa - Dylan Guenther - Wow, a steal here for Ottawa. The weak showing at the U18 sees Guenther drop into the lap of the Ottawa Senators.
  4. Right? The worst part is she never finishes the skim milk with all that almond milk in her fridge. The police just don't get it every time they come and remove me from her apartment. I have to keep convincing them that it's such a waste.
  5. If there was ever a year the Canucks are gonna win the lottery, this year is it. No clear cut #1 pick... give it to Vancouver and see if they screw it up...
  6. Honestly if the stars on a team leave $1m to $2m on the table each, it would make a massive difference to the depth of a team. Imagine if the 3 leafs forwards all left $2m on the table... that's an additional $6m in cap to work with. Ah well, who am I kidding... lmao laffs suck!!! Hahaha
  7. I'm a full grown adult man, but I went to see a quiet ceremony in remembrance of the 215 children today by my work, and I was moved to tears. With two toddlers of my own, I cannot wrap my head around the pain and suffering that these families would have gone through. I hope every single one of us that lives, works, and plays on these traditional territories will put forth 110% effort for reconciliation and forgiveness from the indigenous communities.
  8. Here's the Karlsson deal: Traded from Ottawa Senators with Francis Perron to San Jose Sharks for Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers, Chris Tierney, Dylan DeMelo, round 2 pick in the 2019 draft (Jamieson Rees), conditional round 1 pick in the 2020 draft (Tim Stutzle), conditional round 2 pick in the 2021 draft and conditional round 1 pick in the 2022 draft So OTT got: Norris -- top tier prospect Balcers Tierney -- just came off a 17 goal, 40pt performance Demelo -- a solid Top 4 Dman 2nd Rounder TWO conditional 1st Rounders and one conditional 2nd Rounder I don't think Jones has quite the clout or pedigree that Karlsson had AT THAT TIME... there was almost no question that Karlsson was either the top defenceman in the league or was at least Top 3. Not sure if Jones is quite at that level. Nevertheless... it gives us all an idea of how much a top tier RHD is worth in this league. I think it would actually look like: To VAN: Jones To CBJ: Podkolzin (Norris) Hoglander (Tierney) Schmidt (Demelo) 2nd Round Pick Conditional 1st Round Pick In other words, WAY too expensive for the Canucks. Want Jones? Wait it out and see if CBJ actually moves him. If not, the Canucks will actually have the cap space to make him an offer as a UFA next year.
  9. Please don't speak of RNH and Sakic/Niedermayer in the same breath...
  10. It's actually rare that goalies are selected in the 1st round unless they're highly touted. Jimmy McGill has posted 2020, 2019, and 2017... then these are the only other 2 since 2011: 2015: Ilya Samsonov 2012: Andrei Vasilevsky So over the past 10 years, only 5 goalies have been picked in the 1st round.
  11. Ok, I'm bored at work on a Friday morning so I thought I'd play the mock draft game... BEFORE LOTTERY Not knowing what the lottery will look like, I just went with current order of selection: 1 Buffalo - Brandt Clarke - Sabres couldn't pass up the opportunity to have Dahlin and Clarke as their top pairing for years to come 2 Anaheim - Matthew Beniers - Way too much talent to pass up a player of this calibre at #2 3 Seattle - Owen Power - An all around, all situation hulking defenceman like Power can help eat up minutes for the expansion franchise 4 New Jersey - Luke Hughes - The connection to Jack Hughes is a marketing powerhouse in the making, not to mention Jack Hughes is an excellent defenceman 5 Columbus - William Eklund - Eklund lands into Columbus' lap. AFTER LOTTERY I ran the lottery once and Anaheim and Ottawa moved up. A bit of shuffling around, but I still think the Canucks end up with McTavish. 1 Anaheim - Owen Power - Paired with Drysdale, the Ducks are set on defence for a long, long time. 2 Ottawa - Brandt Clarke - Too good of a RHD to pass up. 3 Buffalo - Simon Edvinsson - The Swedish top pairing of Edvinsson and Dahlin... WOW. 4 Seattle - Matthew Beniers - Highlight reel goals to fill the stands! 5 New Jersey - Luke Hughes - The connection to Jack Hughes is a marketing powerhouse in the making, not to mention Jack Hughes is an excellent defenceman 6 Columbus - William Eklund - Eklund lands into Columbus' lap. There is no way the CBJ pass up on him here at #6. 7 Detroit - Kent Johnson - Already in Michigan, this is a perfect match for Detroit 8 San Jose - Dylan Guenther - An excellent sniper to add to SJ's pool 9 LA - Jesper Wallstedt - LA is stacked with prospects, but with Quick aging fast, Wallstedt is clearly the perfect replacement 10 Vancouver - Mason McTavish - With a floor of a top tier 3C, and potential for at least 2C, McTavish brings the size and grit that the prospect pool desperately needs Critique away
  12. I wouldn't put Eichel in there... McDavid, MacKinnon, Draisatl... that's the 3 worth a 1OA right now.
  13. If we retool like the Blues and end up with only 1 Stanley Cup, I'd be fine with that.
  14. So ummm... technically the Canucks held 1st overall in 1999 briefly, before they flipped it to Atlanta for 2nd overall (under the agreement that Atlanta selects Patrik Stefan). So the franchise's first ever 1st overall pick was traded ... for some skinny Swedish kid named Daniel Sedin. Oh, they got his brother too... I think his name was Henrik.

  16. I've got a 3yo and 1yo too... the 1yo is nursing, so our hope is she is getting some antibodies from my wife (who has had her vaccination)... the 3yo is also drinking pumped milk. There have been studies done already where antibodies have been shown to be present in breast milk upto 80 days after the mother received the vaccine. https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/vaccinated-mothers-can-transfer-coronavirus-antibodies-through-breast-milk-studies-suggest-1.5380478
  17. For sh*ts and giggles, I would like to see Arizona win 1OA, forcing a redraw, followed by Arizona winning 2OA, and having to redraw one more time. Then of course the Canucks winning 1OA because ... well, just because it would be nice.
  18. Why are the odds different from Tankathon vs NHL PR? Tankathon is usually spot on... did they mess up their numbers?
  19. Clarke won't fall out of the Top 5. Maybe if he was a LHD, but really... a projected top pairing RHD with size, can play in all situations, can skate, and can read the play well? I don't see how he won't go Top 3 to be honest. If any players drop, it'll be Edvinsson or Guenther. Edvinsson because he is quietly good at what he does, not flashy enough to garner the attention for Top 3 status. Guenther because of his poor showing in the U18.
  20. Seriously though, first Linden, now Courtnall, and now Sedins... https://www.tsn.ca/vancouver-canucks-in-talks-with-sedin-twins-regarding-potential-roles-with-organization-1.1641910
  21. I know it's obvious, but I'll predict that the Canucks will be up 5-1 going into the 3rd period, then the Flames will score 4 unanswered to force OT before Vancouver wins it. Don't laugh, it could happen.
  22. The conversation would likely start with this year's 1st as CBJ will know it's a high pick, one of Juolevi/Rathbone, one of Podz/Hogs, and probably more. In other words, no way that the Canucks would do it. It would gut the future of this team. Only hope is Jones goes the UFA route next year and the Canucks bid big on him.
