[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
HKSR replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
For me, I think the thought process goes like this: 1. We know only a contender will want Schenn's services. 2. If the pick is a 2nd rounder or better, then pull the trigger on a trade (this would be a late 2nd round pick). 3. If the pick is a 3rd rounder, then keep him (a late 3rd round pick wouldn't move the needle enough for me to move a leader like Schenn). 4. If the pick is a 3rd rounder, but we also get a B tier prospect or better, then pull the trigger (B tier = Klimovich or Rathbone level IMO) 5. If the pick is a 3rd rounder, but we also get a C tier prospect or worse, then keep Schenn (C tier = Noah Juulsen equivalent). -

[Waivers] Spencer Martin, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby

Awesome, let's ruin all of our goaltenders too. Boy, I miss those goalie graveyard days. Hope we go back to that era. -

(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller
HKSR replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Huh? Players have contracts. We know several of the key ones are all for several years (leading into the years where we need to re-sign Petey and Hughes). This isn't rocket science. For example, OEL's $7M+ AAV comes off the books exactly when Hughes needs a raise. -
To CLB: $1M retention on OEL Aidan Mcdonough To VAN: $2M retention on OEL Shakir Mukhamadullin or Kevin Bahl To NJD: OEL ($4M AAV cap hit) $5M in cap savings for the Canucks.

That's prime example of why it's best to draft for skill at the top of the draft. I was heavily favouring Nylander in that draft. I just feel like big guys like Virtanen use their size on the smaller players in the CHL to dominate. What happens when you take away that advantage? What's left? Unless there's a lot of skill under that size, you better be weary of what you have.

Shore he will.

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn

I think it'll be based on the returns on the table. If some boneheaded GM comes along and is willing to give up a 1st, how would we say no? Or even Liljegren (or one of the other early 20 something year old RHD in the league) is offered... I just can't see PA/JR saying no. -

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn

No doubt, if Liljegren is the return for Myers or Schenn, I'd say that's pretty good. Especially if we're talking Myers. -

Not usually, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt his value. -

Not saying he's not decent, but there's guys his age in this league (he's not that young anymore), that have far surpassed him in terms of value. Like I said, if he wasn't a Leaf and didn't have media ramming his name down our throats every other week, he'd be worth no more than a 3rd round pick these days. -

Yeah he's another good one. See? Both of these guys are way better targets than Liljegren. If Liljegren played for CLB or ANA, we'd probably hear nothing of him -

Weren't we 7 years from contending anyways? Y'know... when Petey and Hughes hit their prime years -

In fairness, if Liljegren wasn't a Leaf, nobody would even care what he's doing. He's overrated in my opinion. I'd prefer Marcus Bjork over Liljegren (most people here are probably thinking... who??) Marcus Bjork -- undrafted 6'3" 200lbs+ RD in Columbus plays more minutes than Liljegren, better stats, and only 1 year older. -
[Speculation] Canucks exploring Tyler Myers trade

Top pair. How many 6'1" 214lbs RHD can you find in the league that can put up 50+ points while playing excellent defence and is also mobile. -

Yeah, but still would have hurt. We lost out on a top pairing RHD. -

No, but that Sven Baertschi trade hurts... -

This part is underrated... there are ALWAYS injuries in the playoffs. Schenn has shown he can play big minutes and do quite well. Contenders would surely value that aspect of his game. -

Just for funsies... what if this happened... OEL Buyout, so Canucks have a ton of cap space in 2023-24. 2023-24: NAS trades Ryan Johansen, 1st, and 3rd for Future Considerations ($8M cap hit for 2 more seasons) to VAN. 2024:25 TDL: Canucks trade Johansen @ 50% retained on his final year of the contract to 3rd team to retain additional 50%. $2M cap hit Johansen to contender returns another 1st round pick to Vancouver. So Canucks acquire two 1st round picks and a 3rd round pick for taking on Johansen's contract due to buying out OEL. Johansen has no NTC or NMC. So easy to shop him around.
