[Signing] Islanders re-sign Bo Horvat
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yup, what have we won over the past 50 years with quiet and classy passive leaders? Maybe we ought to try one that has fire in his personality, and one that outwardly shows he absolutely HATES losing. -
[Signing] Islanders re-sign Bo Horvat
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Me too. I'm one of the biggest Miller supporters here. I'm just replying for those that seem to use Miller as a scapegoat. Only on CDC do people complain about a player that is pacing for 70 to 80 points and 30+ goals lol. -

I'll take it from here... the replies will be 1 of or a combination of the following: 1. He doesn't back check and gives up on plays 2. He whines and gets angry at this teammates I think that about covers it all. EDIT: Sorry, I missed #3 3. He's old, and turning 76 years old next year and will never produce offensively again! -
(Speculation) Conor Garland buyout this Summer?
HKSR replied to Makaramel MacKhiato's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don't know what Stillman's value is worth. It feels like nobody would even want him for free, but who knows. Contract spots could possibly be an issue this offseason if they do plan on bringing in more youth and prospects. -
[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
HKSR replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
That's an interesting proposition. I haven't run through the cap numbers, but I assume that works. Adding Sandin, Niemala, and a 1st on top of Kerfoot and Engvall isn't a bad haul for Schenn, Garland, and Boeser. The retention on Garland and Boeser would likely be offset by all the youth in the system on ELCs or low bridge deals for the next 2 or 3 years. -
(Speculation) Conor Garland buyout this Summer?
HKSR replied to Makaramel MacKhiato's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Because it still 'saves' $1.125M for 2023-24 with a net loss in 2024-25 of $225k. Opens up a spot for a guy like Rathbone. -
(Speculation) Conor Garland buyout this Summer?
HKSR replied to Makaramel MacKhiato's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yes. Whoever came out with this rumour is stupid. Buying out Garland is a 6 year dead cap hit! 2023-24 - 839k 2024-25 - 839k 2025-26 - 1.8m 2026-27 - 1.9m 2027-28 - 1.9m 2028-29 - 1.9m Why the ____ would the Canucks do that? You could retain $1.25M on his $4.95M cap hit to make him a $3.7M cap player. He would DEFINITELY bring assets back at that price. Not only that, you'd only have dead cap for 3 years instead of 6: 2023-24 - $1.25 2024-25 - $1.25 2025-26 - $1.25 So this whole thread is pointless. If the Canucks did buyout Garland, their cap strategist needs to be fired on the spot. EDIT: You know who should and could be bought it? Riley "Tank Commander" Stillman. Dead Cap: 2023-24 - 225k 2024-25 - 225k Saves over $1M in cap per season. -
[Signing] Islanders re-sign Bo Horvat
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
What? The NYI defence group is WAY superior to ours. Probably one of the best in the entire league down the right side. -
Miller has typically only been 3 or 4% less on the faceoff dot than Bo, so we shouldn't be in too bad a shape on that front.

Happy for him and his family. Best part is I have no issues cheering for the Islanders. Good luck Bo! -
[GDT] 2023 NHL All-Star Skills Competition
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Makes you wonder if the Canucks should use petey on the point on PP1... a true weapon from the blueline with that hard of a shot. -
Most birthdays by a Canuck nicknamed Tiger.

To VAN: Connor Zary 2nd Round Pick Nikita Zadorov To CAL: Brock Boeser ($1M retained for cap reasons) Riley Stillman Why does CAL do this? Because they're looking for more offensive help with a non-rental forward: https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/countdown-to-tradecentre-brad-treliving-reveals-calgary-flames-wish-list-for-trade-deadline-1.1914669 Why does VAN do this? Sheds cap, sheds a Stillman, and we acquire a promising centre prospect and a 2nd round pick. Net cap savings of $3.25M.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
You sir win the award for strangest reason for a necro bump. And don't lie, you told me my legs were smooth and buttery just last week. -
[Signing] Capitals re-sign Dylan Strome
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
These Strome brothers had such hype before coming into the league, but they've all not really met their expectations. Still decent players, but nowhere near what they were supposed to be. This is decent value for a 2C though. Over $1.5M+ less than Boeser. Gives us an idea of how much we would need to retain on Boeser to trade him for good value. -
[Waivers] Lane Pederson (claimed by Blue Jackets)
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
1. If they wanted to get him down to Abby to bolster the roster down there, sending him down a few days sooner, he would have been exempt from the waiver wire and we wouldn't be having this conversation. 2. If a contract spot was the primary goal for this transaction, waiving him does nothing unless you EXPECT he was going to be taken. So if this is the case, this management group was ready to throw away this asset for nothing (yes, I call him an asset because he benefits Abby). 3. If they truly wanted to open up a contract spot, they could just walk away from John Stevens, Dowling, DiGiuseppe, Keeper, Wolanin, etc (as UFAs) at the end of the season. I'd rather keep a 25yo with some potential to still improve, and is capable of dominating in the AHL. 4. Even after these shuffles, the Canucks STILL have 3 open contract spots. Assuming Boeser and Myers are likely on their way out, that's 5 open spots. I don't know about you guys, but I don't see 4 or 5 players coming back in exchange for Boeser and Myers. ONE of those guys will likely go for nothing more than a pick. Perhaps even both of them. So no, I don't buy this garbage about opening up contract spots. If we had 49/50 contracts, then sure, but we're at 47/50 with at least 2 more bodies likely to be moved out, and UFAs in Abby that we could easily just walk away from. Management screwed up. I don't know why people are trying to legitimize their mistake. -
I wouldn't put that kinda pressure on the kid. Kesler was a 40 goal scoring Selke winner lol

[Rumour] Canucks getting calls on Thatcher Demko
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yup, goalie is the most important position on the team. The only guy that plays 60min of a game. If Demko is moved, there better be a really good plan in place on how to replace that talent (ie. a top tier G prospect in return) -
[Rumour] Canucks getting calls on Thatcher Demko
HKSR replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So scratch Buffalo off the list lol Reality is the market for Demko is soft. Which teams would really want Demko that badly that they would give up a haul for him? Buffalo Pittsburgh LA Anybody else? -
[Poll] With Horvat gone, who should be named the Canucks next captain?
HKSR replied to Roberts's topic in Canucks Talk
Petey or Hughes. A toss up for me. Both bring leadership qualities. Petey is simply the best player on this team. He plays with a level of intensity and always wants to be the best. That alone would set the standard for the room. He's also not afraid to lay big hits when he gets angry. I like the fire that is in his game. Hughes is a quiet leader, but you see his leadership surface at times. Two examples I can think of: The recent Pearson fiasco with the medical staff. Quinn was the one that called out the team personnel. Another was when media were asking Boeser hard questions about his father. Clearly Boeser was in a lot of emotional pain, and Quinn stepped in to ask to move on. Both of these guys could be captain, and I'd be happy with it. If I were to pick one... I'd say Petey. When the going gets tough, he could fire up the team in a number of ways. -
(Discussion) Low budget offseason UFA’s
HKSR replied to CanuckFan1123's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Yup, I could see Clifton at 4 to 4.5 on a mid-length deal (ie. 4 years). Worrisome thing is if he doesn't keep trending in the right direction, you now have another anchor on the blueline. We'd also have a very small top pair with Hughes and Clifton lol
