[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
HKSR replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not surprised one bit. Like I've been saying, it's just way too hard to replace what Bo brings. Management sees us being competitive in 2 years which means Boeser and Myers are definitely not in the equation. That's where the major changes will come. Pearson will be gone as well, and possibly Garland. I predict retention on Boeser to acquire a better return, and possibly Myers too. -
[Waivers] Lane Pederson (claimed by Blue Jackets)

In fairness, he's not the smartest guy. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Andrei Kuzmenko

Yup! And that's why Bo will be re-signed. It's way too hard to replace him. Moving Brock, Garland, and Myers although may not garner the same returns, but the cap space alone will be extremely beneficial moving forward in this RETOOL. -

You guys are giving way too much credit to this management group. There was probably just zero communication between the management group and Tocchet, so Tocchet went ahead and had Pederson on the top line for practice. And here we are as fans and media trying to decipher a deeper meaning, when all there was to this is a bunch of miscommunication within this monkey organization. -

Where did you see that? -

Today is spa day. Moving it to post game gives him more time to soak in the mineral pools and eat some tapas. -

For now... bottom feeders can do it and move him back down later on. -

He's gonna get claimed by one of the bottom feeders. Free asset that can light up the AHL and play a role in the NHL. -

Well, be ready for it because I think I heard that management is ready to retain on contracts to move guys out this TDL. -

Moving Boeser and Myers with $2.5M retained between the 2 of them still saves $10M on the cap. That's plenty of savings for $2.5M in dead cap for 2 years of building the team. They need to resolve the cap issues now if they want to re-sign Bo. Miller isn't going anywhere. The boat has sailed. -

I think it'll happen. If it means keeping Bo vs keeping Boeser/Garland/Myers, sweeteners and retention will happen. Retention on Boeser and Myers is obvious. They said they want to compete in 2 years. Both of those contracts will be gone by then. Garland = sweetener. -

I'll go on record in this thread that I really believe Bo will be re-signed. The issue on this team is not offence. In fact, that's the strength. Moving Bo makes too big of a hole. I think this management group will do everything in its power (retention and sweeteners) to move guys like Boeser, Myers, Garland, etc to free up the cap to re-sign Bo and work on the defence core moving forward. What's the point of creating a hole down the middle (and other facets of the game like faceoffs) that needs to then be fixed as well as the defence group? So there it is, I said it with Miller and I'll say it with Horvat. Bo will be re-signed, and wingers will be traded... likely in deals we won't like. -

I'll go on the record here and say that I believe they will re-sign Bo and end up moving guys like Boeser, Garland, Myers, etc. with retention. The Canucks forward core is very solid offensively. Defence is the issue here. It's easier to focus on improving one area than multiple areas. -
Just playing devil's advocate here because what else do we do on CDC? lol... What if instead of OEL and Myers, we had K'Andre Miller and Ryan Pulock? Is it that the Canucks core is not good? Or is it the Canucks defence core that is not good? If we managed to move out Brock, Myers, and maybe Garland, but found significant upgrades on defence, where would we be as a team?

We'll be ok if we do NOT trade anymore 1st and 2nd round picks. They also need to land 1 or 2 NCAA guys. Three years of drafting and adding an NCAA prospect would restock pretty quickly. In 2 years, our pool of top 10 prospects would consist of a minimum of: 2023 1st Round Pick 2024 1st Round Pick 2025 1st Round Pick NCAA Prospect 2023 2nd Round Pick 2024 2nd Round Pick 2025 2nd Round Pick -

Bains is actually doing quite well. What he did in the WHL is clearly still translating into the AHL which is nice to see. If it translates further into the NHL, then we have solid middle 6 guy right there. -

Can't disagree there. I think the biggest issue was trading away two 1sts and two 2nds. Those first 2 rounds are so vital in keeping talent coming into the system. We definitely need to restock, including looking at the NCAA and overseas (which I'm sure is in the plans). Adding 1 or 2 prospects from other sources and keeping the 1st and 2nd round picks would make a huge difference. Can you imagine if we were able to draft say a Dvorsky and Allen/Bonk in the first 2 rounds this year, plus adding Livingstone? That's 3 top talents in one year added to the pool. Podkolzin (still a developing prospect in my opinion) Hoglander (still a developing prospect in my opinion) Dvorsky Livingstone Bonk/Allen Lekkerimaki Mcdonough Pettersson (D) Rathbone Klimovich Karlsson -

Yup, so what I'm saying is when you look at how the rankings are usually determined, they class them as generational, elite, superstar, star, etc. and give them points rankings with the probability of them reaching those potentials. So when you take guys like Petey, Hughes, and Demko out which probably ranked really high in terms of class and probability, they'll pull the Canucks pool right near the top. I think what you're arguing is that the Canucks pool is not deep because it certainly was top heavy with elite potential. That's generally how these rankings are set. The higher the top tier is, the higher the ranking. You could have 10 guys that may be ranked as middle 6 and 2nd pairing D potential, but they'd be ranked way lower than a team with 3 guys with superstar potential and 7 guys as bottom tier forwards and defence. -

What does team being bottom 5 have to do with individual talent? Can you honestly tell me guys like Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes are not in the upper echelon of the league in their respective positions? 2 or 3 players don't make a team successful, a TEAM of 20+ guys makes a team successful. Completely different issues. EDIT: Unless you are talking about the team prospect ranking? In which case, the top tier talent we had pulled us up the rankings. It's all just math that these guys use to rank teams. Once you take guys with that much potential (Petey, Hughes, Demko, etc) out of the equation, the 'score' for the Canucks would have dropped considerably. -

Clearly it wasn't an incredibly weak pool for a couple years there because we actually kept our picks, but you can convince yourself it was. It's normal that teams go through cycles of having top prospect pools, and then fall back down once their top talent graduates and helps the team climb out of the basement. The reason why the Canucks are so low in the standings is because they buggered things up for themselves and traded 1st round draft picks not once, but twice in a span of 3 years. Those players turned out to be Dylan Gunther and Shakir Mukhamadullin. Add those 2 to the prospect pool and I guarantee we wouldn't be near the bottom of the list. On top of that, moving out two 2nd round draft picks don't help either. Count them... 4 key picks handed out (two 1sts and two 2nds). That's 4 top prospects we're missing in the pipeline. Key takeaway here for management would be to stop trading 1st and 2nd round picks away! Oh too late... 2024 2nd rounder... GONE. -

A lot of the top tier prospects graduated to the big league, and remember we had 3 Calder candidates in a row... The Athletic had us #2 even as recent as 2018-19: https://theathletic.com/459786/2018/08/30/pronman-2018-19-nhl-farm-system-rankings/ Sporting News #3: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nhl/news/nhl-top-prospects-best-worst-farm-system-draft-history-sabres-flyers-canucks-penguins/tn8fb6mqnial16bxvtds5dacu I mean, what do you get when Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, and Thatcher Demko all graduate to the big club in a matter of 2 years? lol -
