Three Truths and a Lie - JUN.24.08 in Cory Schneider's Blog A blog by Cory Schneider in General Posted June 25, 2008 Hi, Cory...Welcome to Vancouver (again). I know you probably won't get much of a chance to check out the local sights, but when you make it to the Big League (hopefully with Vancouver instead of against Vancouver), here are a few suggestions:- You've been to UBC, but I bet you haven't had much of a chance to see the whole campus. We've got a particle accelerator at UBC called Triumf (formerly the "TRI-University Meson Factory") if you're into that sort of thing, or if you're more arts-inclined, there's a couple of art galleries and a Museum of Anthropology here, which you may have heard about in the news lately.- The view from Burnaby Mountain (where UBC's competitor Simon Fraser University is situated) is not bad for a local "mountain". However, the really good views are up in the North Shore mountains (Grouse Mountain, which you've probably already visited, being one of them).- If the water is more your thing, you might consider trying windsurfing or kayaking in Burrard Inlet.- Richmond has a night market every weekend, and the restaurants in Richmond are quite diverse and in a lot of cases, comparable with the Robson strip. You might not have a chance to check them out during your camp, but when you make it to the Big League, it's worth a visit.- Did I mention the mountains? The slopes here are phenominal in the winter, but you'll probably be on the ice. - We're close enough to the water to go whale watching, we're close enough to the mountains to catch breath-taking sights, and we're close enough to the States in case you're ever feeling homesick and want to spend your greenbacks (or brownbills, if you don't mind being paid in Canadian Dollars). The only thing we're not close to is another NHL franchise city. Have a great week!
