What's Wrong With This Picture?
6of1_halfdozenofother replied to Lionized27's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Good catch! Question for the OP: Did they run that photo for all of the teams that they discussed? Or just for Vancouver? (because of the statue's positioning in Vancouver) -
Good to know that that &^@#tard is reffing games south of the 49th, instead of here in Canada.

Could be worse - at least it wasn't Stalin. -
I think it's only ever been "guidance", not "order". ie. recommended that people don't travel if it's not essential, vs. "Thou shalt not travel unless essential". My guess is they're afraid of a constitutional challenge.

Careful, kos... lest you draw back out the BH fanbois and blind minions seeking your blood for daring to slight her...

Global BC1 and CBC News had the initial "breaking news" and regular updates on a spot in their rotations, so it wasn't completely blocked out by the goonery in the States. I will agree though that the stuff down south was more prominent in their news cycles, taking up perhaps a third of their regular broadcasts regurgitating (somewhat poorly) the subtleties of the political system and interactions to expect. I guess it can't really be helped when you have such a massive neighbour whose economy and border can't be ignored.

Not surprised. They're basically going to be formalizing what their zealots in the administration and civil service (such as those involved with elections candidate vetting and those who are secretariat staff attending the district council meetings) have been doing informally on their own, despite guidelines that require them to be impartial and politically neutral. -
Messier was a consolation prize, given that we lost Gretzky due to an impatient owner. There was too much bad blood between him (from his '94 SCF days) and the team as it was then, and although he was touted for his leadership qualities, from day one you could tell that there was going to be a massive polarization in the team when he ripped the C off of Linden's jersey and claimed #11 for himself (despite it having been unofficially retired by the team). Those sort of things don't lend to good team dynamics.

Just speculating here, but if there was intention to build a nuclear deterrent in Tw, it would have likely been called out by now - and if there was something close to being deployed, the ccp would almost certainly have sabotaged it already. Much like in HK where there are pro-establishment blue stooges and a vocal pro-democracy/localist yellow opposition, Tw also has its separation of camps, with blue (primarily KMT supporters) wanting reunification and with green (mostly DPP with a collection of pro-independence groups) preferring to make the de facto arrangement permanent. The blue camp in Tw has its people in high places throughout the bureaucracy due to years of KMT governing the island before the DPP changed that dynamic, so leaks of any initial plans to build or acquire a nuke would have been inevitable and expected. However, I wouldn't be surprised to find that Tw had a massive array of both surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles, especially ballistic missiles that could be refitted with goal-specific warheads, like bunker-busters to knock out a sheltered command centre or chemical or biological agents to neutralize or incapacitate an approaching or assembling force. -

Indeed. They're already doing it to their north. -

I love the gore factor of it, but it's not gory enough. I won't say how though, as it'll probably earn me another demerit and most likely a ban from this site. -

Well, looks like the ccp firewall is laying down its first bricks in HK. Original announcement (in Chinese): Original announcement (in English): There was some investigation done by the media, and there were unconfirmed reports that this was an action made by the police, to request (compel) local HK ISPs to block all IP traffic from HK Chronicles' web server. It doesn't require stretching the imagination that much to conclude that eventually this will also happen for media sites and potentially even search engines - the precedent is now set, so it's not a matter of if, but when. -
Self-isolation is only required for those coming into Canada. There are other jurisdictions (Atlantic Canada comes to mind) where they've required people coming into their bubble to also self-isolate as well. Our PHO doesn't seem to think it's practical to have people doing inter-provincial travel to self-isolate.

Also, some of the Chinese fruit/veggie stores in Richmond (Parker Place and Continental are two that come to mind) have mangosteen, longans, lychees, guava, durian, mango, pomelo, and other fruit from the SE Asia area from time to time. No idea about pricing or when they stock them though. As tasty and appealing as I find those fruit, they give me nosebleeds unfortunately.

[Report] Dave Randorf New Voice of the TBL

He should've stuck with CFL - but now that he's down south, think the NFL teams might be interested to scoop him up? -
[Report] Dave Randorf New Voice of the TBL

Maybe I've been spoiled by years of Jim, Jim, and John - but Dave Randorf's pbp broadcasts are like nails across a blackboard for me. Sofa king annoying!! -
That too.

Perhaps, but the key point is that this memo doesn't say, "I'm leaving the country". In fact, it doesn't even say, "I'm leaving my couch". So as smoking gun evidence goes, this one is about as effective as a nerf gun that was stepped on by an elephant.

Oh, I fully understand where you're coming from, because I used to think in much the same way. In particular, that old-age security plan (you know, having them wipe my ass for me when I'm struck down with Alzheimers or at least having hope that my kid will give me a proper burial/cremation when I'm done with this world is a very tantalizing thought). But at the end of the day, I feel that's unfair to them and very selfish of me. (Not saying that you're selfish, or others that are parents are selfish - people who have kids have them for very different reasons, and I'm just stating what I feel my actions and intentions would feel like to me as a passive observer.) And perhaps I have a darker, more doom and gloom perspective of the world. It's hard not to when you see what's happened just hours ago in what should be the Capitol of what should be the largest power in the "free" world, or 8 time zones away where an authoritarian state is slowly and methodically deconstructing any semblance of human rights and free thinking in what was a returned former colony of a western civilization that espoused and cherished those human rights and free thinking, while bribing, intimidating, and/or brushing off other nations. I don't think it's fair that my offspring would have to reconcile the western/humanitarian values that I would inculcate them with against what those clowns are doing in the two most powerful nations in the modern-day world. A bonus is that by not having kids, we're doing our part for environmental sustainability.

I used to have marriage and kids as expected rites of passage in my life. Marriage - achieved. Kids - the longer I live in this world, the less I want to subject my offspring to this kind of bull$&!#. I'm now very much at peace with the mutual decision my wife and I have about not having kids. Would I shoot them dead if they were to sprout forth? No. If by chance I were to knock up my wife, then so be it. I'll bear the responsibility of raising them to (try to) be upstanding citizens with good humanitarian values. But we're definitely not actively seeking to throw our progeny into the gene pool, given the $&!#ty state of affairs of this world (and how we're going downhill faster and faster with each passing day).

I dunno, as far as smoking guns go, and as much as I think our neighbour's Premier is a clown, this piece of evidence is the perfect example of "plausible deniability", because nowhere on it does it say anything along the lines of "&^@# all y'all, I'm &^@#ing off to the States!"
