  1. Any suugested stores worth checking out? All the big ones (Rona, HD, Lowes, CT, etc.) do not seem to carry them.
  2. 'cuz that won't create a fire hazard at all... No - I'm looking for bulbs, not tinfoil solutions, thanks.
  3. Yes, but they no longer carry them, certainly not for many years.
  4. No, I'm not asking how many people it takes to screw in a lightbulb. Anyone know where E14 bulbs can be purchased in the Greater Vancouver area? I'm hesitant to order online, but it seems to be the only source at this time. For those who don't know, E14 bulbs have a base that are slightly wider than candelabra base (which are technically E12), and are more prominent in the European market (hence the common term, "European base"). The alternative that I'm thinking is to find an adapter that will allow me to use candelabra base bulbs in the E14 socket. I think they're called "socket reducer adapters", and those are just as hard to find without going online to buy them. ...ok, maybe I'll throw in one: "How many people does it take to screw in an E14 lightbulb? NONE, BECAUSE I CAN'T EVEN FIND ONE TO USE!" Any insights to share?
  5. Friday to Saturday update happened when she had her uncharacteristic Saturday briefing, complete with public health orders.
  6. I don't think they have the cojones to implement a regional (much less province wide) mask mandate - in fact, they probably had to go through a philosophical decathlon in order to even utter a healthcare setting mask mandate. More likely that they might finally admit the scientific acknowledgement that their peers in the PHAC offices quietly posted on their website about aerosol transmissibility of the virus.
  7. Not sure about studies, but the eyeball test seems to suggest that areas with higher population density are faring far worse than less dense areas. As for level of smoking, I seem to recall there was some sort of announcement by respiratory experts that it is an aggravating factor. But then again, smoking factors into so many chronic and acute illnesses that it's pretty much a given.
  8. All of our Public Health Officers (Fed and Prov) have been too tentative or too timid in taking action, often falling months behind the most proactive and decisive jurisdictions in terms of adopting the prevailing science. The regional PHOs aren't much better, but they're taking their marching orders from the Provincial PHO, so I'm willing to cut them a little slack. For example, SARS was a perfect example of lessons that should've been learned; they missed that boat. People in Asia were long wearing masks and ensuring adequate ventilation in enclosed spaces, also taking to social distancing and closing borders when the first instances of the virus were reported - Taiwan is the perfect example of this; first we got "masks don't work", then we got "only wear masks if you can't maintain social distancing", now we finally get direction on what types of construction of masks might be useful. Uhhh, hate to break it to you, Theresa Tam, but your fellow Asians have long worn masks in times of high-virulence situations. They wouldn't shut the borders initially, saying "they don't respect the borders"... now that the borders have been closed for almost 8 months, they have an epiphany that closing the borders was the next best thing since Jesus. (Meanwhile, Taiwan and New Zealand shut their borders right away on first sign of the coronavirus.) I have a lot of respect for people with the credentials and who have taken the sacrifice to run our public institutions - often earning lesser pay than what they could do in private practice. However, I believe that both Drs. Tam and Henry have dropped the ball repeatedly and both should lose their jobs. We need people who have a better understanding of what "pandemic" means, and how to deal with things decisively, urgently, and effectively - and these two (along with a lot of their other Provincial counterparts) aren't that. </rant>
  9. https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/component/k2/1558106-20201103.htm Typical of a police state - if you don't like truth that the media is portraying, and you are unable to change the narrative to suit your tastes, arrest the producers and participants of those documentaries that speak loudest against you. This is shameful, HK police. &^@# off and die, HK police. EDIT: minutes after they posted the above article, they did a follow-up article (below) https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/component/k2/1558112-20201103.htm
  10. Cantonese, and as long as the ccp are in power in China, I refuse to (and frankly - ashamed to) call myself "chinese". I'd say Hong Konger, but HK is currently being converted to "just another ccp city".
  11. Reverse retro? As in future? Trollololol... you good, Canucks brass... you good...
  12. Is it finally the time for the swan song for RTHK, Hong Kong's public broadcaster? https://hongkongfp.com/2020/10/30/security-law-why-staff-at-hong-kongs-public-broadcaster-may-face-a-choice-between-editorial-independence-and-allegiance-to-the-govt/ RTHK was (and to this point, still is) relatively transparent and fair-minded in its reporting, and has held HK politicians to account on numerous occasions. Unfortunately, those days may be coming to an end soon. There is nothing worse than having a bunch of yes-men in administration, in the legislature, and in the media all working in concert to ensure a hermetically-sealed vacuum chamber of yesyesyesyesyes. I fear for Asia's future.
  13. You crack down on people within who only want to ensure the rights they were promised are respected. You arrest localists for trumped up political charges such as secession and sedition. You claim to be one and whole with the motherland (and inseparable supposedly) but expect preferential treatment because of an agreement you no longer respect. And yet you run around screaming foul when other countries finally call your bluff about being inseparable with the motherland. You can't have it both ways. https://hongkongfp.com/2020/10/30/hong-kong-govt-to-take-us-to-wto-over-made-in-china-regulations/ (what a &^@#ing confused gaggle of clowns this "administration" is )
  14. Try telling that to the Rohingya in Myanmar.
  15. If you follow the logic of some of the posters here, the same could be said for our PM and our Premier...
  16. The only reason why we've been able to make moves like stealing Schmidt from Vegas is because we've been deliberate in how we've managed the cap space we have (regardless of past years' signings). It's a lot harder to make those moves if we're already bent over a barrel, which is what the acquisition of Hoffman would result in. No, we don't need him. Certainly not for this year, and certainly not for a short-term (or any term length) hit. Next. (PS, it's obvious that this belongs in the proposals section instead of being in Canucks Talk, since the main thrust of your original post was to market Hoffman as the guy to get.)
  17. Matches the right-wing/conservative narrative... "things as they used to be", even if "as they used to be" is not remotely sustainable, or even practical. These are the people that are fearful of change. God forbid that the baker of their favourite bread suddenly changes the ingredients, or that their cows suddenly give out less (or different quality) milk.
  18. Actually, it's kind of the same story. If I were a betting man, I'd buy heavily into the outcome that there will be an incomplete quarantine of the teams (yes, even the Rays) and their close contacts. None of my business though, really. As long as they don't come north, I really dgaf about the cesspool down south and their ignorant/irresponsible ways.
  19. But will they? Conventional wisdom suggests they should, but practical experience and human nature will point towards an incomplete seal, and the likelihood of some "leakage" into the greater community, intentionally or otherwise.
  20. He didn't quote any figures, or even provide a range. I'm still inclined to believe a peer-reviewed journal over this video snippet that is very likely taken out of context and not even relevant to the discussion at hand.
  21. Because, y'know, death of the incumbent is the ONLY measure of the impact from getting this infection...
