Tank Hard for Bedard - Playoff chances are already Slim
D-Money replied to Provost's topic in Canucks Talk
Demko reportedly tweaked something in practice... -
[Rumour] Coyotes gauging market on Jakob Chychrun
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Although Chychrun fits their timeline, that makes their top-4 all lefties. Dahlin does well on his off-hand, but I don't think Samuelsson has played much right-side. Those teams are most heavily rumored because they have a clear need for an upgraded LHD in their top-4. I expect Buffalo to focus on adding a RHD. In fact, if Edmonton ends up with Karlsson, and has to shed Barrie to do it, I could see Buffalo trading for Barrie. Helps them push for a playoff spot, and he might fit in well next to Samuelsson. -
[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
D-Money replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
No we don’t! What do you know?! -
Thanks to @Dion Phaneuf for the negotiations. We had been talking about Bergeron for a while, and when Kadri entered the discussion it came together fairly quickly. Happy to welcome Patrice to the team! Hoping he’ll help us win another Cup before our window closes.

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at New York Rangers | Feb. 08, 2023
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
One of the poorer seasons by any NHL team in recent years was the 2016-17 Colorado Avalanche. They finished dead last, and yet still lost all 3 lottery balls, and picked 4th. The guy they picked just won the Conn Smythe. ...Losing cultures can be erased far easier then obtaining elite players. -

[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The only time he was really good was after the Canucks forced him not to be fat and lazy. After steady NHL conditioning, he was a force his first year back in the KHL. But then he got fat and lazy again. -
[Rumour] Canucks getting calls on Thatcher Demko
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
One thing is for sure: it was ridiculously stupid to overplay Demko last year down the stretch. We might have done permanent damage to our franchise goalie to keep the faint dream of playoffs alive. The Bruce run last season was fun, but I can't help but feel it set the franchise back. Management couldn't make the changes they wanted to without first proving if the success was in any way sustainable. And now Demko has additional injury issues because of it. -
[Rumour] Canucks getting calls on Thatcher Demko
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If Columbus is the team, it would make sense to get Korpisalo back, and see if Ian Clark can resurrect his career. When Clark left Columbus, Korpisalo was an all-star. Then he turned Markstrom into one. Maybe Demko is partially a by-product of Clark? And maybe with his injuries he is damaged goods? There are a lot of questions we just can't answer. But if the plan is to tank next year as well (with another Vancouver kid projected to go 1st or 2nd), then moving Demko certainly helps with that. -
There are few things more disingenuous than calling Horvat a “top-5 goal scorer”. For one, even on his insane heater, he’s currently 8th in goals. Secondly, he was around 40th the last two seasons. Bo’s an elite SECOND LINE CENTRE. Even on our terrible team he’s not the top dog. The package we got was pretty decent, all things considered.

Canucks fans can only hope… I think your Bo, locked up for just over $6M, is worth more than the RL impending UFA one. But it should still be a nice haul regardless.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Andrei Kuzmenko
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
My preference was also to trade him. And often I agree with Drance’s takes. That said, Kuz seems to be a really fun guy to be around. Perhaps the positive vibes of just having him in the room are worth more to the team than we know. Also, as a rookie with limited games played, maybe the trade offers weren’t as great as I hoped. Maybe if we’re still spinning our wheels in a couple of years, he’ll be worth even more as a more proven NHL-er. That’s possible too. Heck, he seems to be getting better as he becomes accustomed to the NHL, so maybe he’ll be nearing Panarin-level hype by then. So yeah, there are a couple of reasons why re-signing Kuz may be the best option. Saying it was definitively not and this is nothing more than a missed opportunity seems disingenuous. -
Oh, I loved Peca as a young ‘un. I remember how excited I was when I heard we traded for Mogilny, until I heard who went back the other way. A classic example of choosing the shiny offensive toy rather than defensive skill and character.

No kidding. I’m not going to say that the Canucks organization handled this well, because they most certainly did not. But I can’t help but feel that it’s been completely overblown. The media has been whipping people into a frenzy over it. I love Bruce the man, and what he did last year was truly special. But this year has been a tire fire, and really all the coaches (save for Clark) fully deserve to be canned. And I’ve watched dozens of coaches play out the string knowing they’re soon to be fired (or not extended), without 1% of the drama that has been drummed up over Boudreau. Maybe I’m alone in this, but I just don’t get it.

Thanks to @Caboose for the negotiations. Smith is starting to get rolling, but thought by freeing up some cap and roster space it might free me up to target something more impactful at the deadline.

[PGT] Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks | Jan. 21, 2023

Wait, what? Begins? Maybe you missed the last ten years? -
Carolina calls up Michael Pezzetta and Tim Berni. (2nd roster spot becoming available with pending trade call.) @Nail

[Waivers] Vinnie Hinostroza, Michael McCarron
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
McCarron was great last year for Nashville. In 51 games, he had 7 goals, 7 assists, and 70 PIMs (mostly fights). But he's struggled this year, no doubt related to why he was in the Player Assistance program. -
Carolina Hurricanes send down Daniil Miromanov and Michael Pezzetta (both no waivers), and activate Evander Kane from injured reserve. Carolina also terminates the contract of Daniil Zhuravlyov, who has returned to Russia and signed with Ak Bars Kazan (Link). @Nail

[Waivers] Alex Nedeljkovic, Nick Caamano
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Vrana has been a healthy scratch at the AHL level. He’s a shadow of his former self. -
Welp, so be it. Carolina Hurricanes place Brian Elliott on waivers, to be assigned to the minors if he clears. @Nail
