Brian Elliott going on waivers tonight, but will probably be snapped up early. If you want to make sure you get him, the first offer of a draft pick for him will be taken.

[Signing] Bruins re-sign Pavel Zacha
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He’s the youngest of their top 11 scorers. Have to have someone when Bergeron & Krejci leave. -
[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Florida Panthers | Jan. 14, 2023
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Are we really using his record with Arizona to determine if he’s a good coach? First run with Tampa didn’t go well, but they were still rebuilding, and the first go-around doesn’t always work with new coaches. Maybe he’ll be alright. Personally, I’d wait until the offseason, but it’s not the beacon of hopelessness that some people are labelling it as (that would be the OEL trade). -

No joke - I watched it with the family on Crave tonight, instead of watching the game. …Win. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
D-Money replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I guess I just don’t see it making much sense for Nashville if they have virtually no hope in re-signing him. I can’t see them dishing out the price required for just a straight-up rental. -
I say trade Kuzmenko. The team has too many wingers, and they just don’t hold value. We need to make room for Podz and Hogs next year. But even if management wants to re-sign Kuz, they can get the asset(s) now, and still make him an offer on July 1st. Heck, if he goes elsewhere and doesn’t perform as well, maybe the price will go way down, and he’ll be eager to come back to where he fit so well.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
D-Money replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The only way that works is if we take Ryan Johansen back in the deal. Nashville is almost at the cap already, and has no big contracts expiring this offseason. Of course, RyJo would plug the 2nd line hole, is from Vancouver, is a RH C, and has no form of trade protection. But there would have to be some massive sweeteners to make it worth it for Vancouver. Not sure they have what Canucks would want (their best prospects are Askarov and wingers). -
(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller
D-Money replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It would be so Canuckian to buy high on Miller (by extending him after a career season), then turn around and right away sell low on him just to buy high again on Horvat. Trade Horvat. His value is through the roof, as is the price to sign him. We just saw how this plays out with Miller, let’s not do it again. -

Usually some of the core players on a true contender are in the running for the NHL awards for MVPs (Hart, Norris, Vezina, Selke), even in years where they don’t win. Avs have had MacKinnon for Hart (with Rantanen at least making the discussion) and Makar for Norris (and Toews was also 8th in voting). Tampa has had Kuch for Hart (with Point also in consideration), Hedman for Norris, and Vasi for Vezina. St. Louis had O’Reilly for Selke, Pietrangelo for Norris, and even Binnington would have won the Vezina if he played like he was for the full season. They don’t have to get nominated every season, but they tend to peak around the time the team has playoff success. Go back to when Vancouver was a true contender. We had two Hart guys in the twins, and perennial Vezina and Selke guys in Luongo and Kesler. Do you see anything like that now? I could see a path where Pettersson gets good enough to challenge for the Hart… but he’s not there yet. And if he can stay healthy and get a stronger team in front of him, maybe Demko… but I have serious doubts, especially since he’s starting to have injury trouble. As much as I like Hughes, I don’t see him having enough defensive impact to get to that level. And Horvat may be putting on a show for his contract season, but he’s never been considered as a top-30 Center in the league before now, let alone one of the absolute best. So short answer: No. We need to acquire at least one more elite player to get there, and it almost certainly has to be done by drafting him. And to do that, you usually need to draft a number of guys, and how at least one of them becomes that type of player.

[Rumour] Canucks interested in Alexis Lafrenière

Nah, Schneider is still in his ELC next year. With their cap situation, no way they’re giving him up. -

You’re not getting Schneider AND Lafreniere. But getting 1 would be a nice building block. -
(Rumour). Jake Livingstone D - NCAA - NHL Availability
D-Money replied to SilentSam's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I could see a scenario where we sign Livingstone, but McDonough walks. There’s a lot more opportunity on this team for a RHD than there is for another winger. Plus Jake is from here… …And we have such a good track record with local guys named Jake. -
[Proposals] Boeser, Myers and Pearson traded
D-Money replied to BigTramFan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Nathan Smith is a pretty good prospect. And Little’s contract is fully insured, and he’s not coming back, so it doesn’t really cost the team anything (not even cap space, if they want to apply for LTIR relief. Myers is tough to move because of 1) his $6M cap hit, and 2) the $5M signing bonus he’s due on July 1st. So both the cap-conscious and the cash-conscious teams have a major hurdle to take him on. But if we simply wait until the bonus is paid, he suddenly becomes an asset to the cash-conscious teams… …but that may be a problem if Vancouver is one of them. -
Carolina releases Lukas Sedlak, who signed in the Czech league (Link).

Vancouver making moves… If only the real Canucks were so proactive!

There have been rumblings that Flames are interested in Boeser. To do that, they’ll have to move out some salary. One guy they probably wouldn’t mind moving is Mangiapane, who has struggled this season. My proposal is simple: Boeser to Flames for Mangiapane and a 2nd round pick. Here are some reasons why I think it might be a good fit: - Clears $850K cap room this year and the next 2 - Recoups the 2nd they lost dumping Dickinson, which management has stated they’d like to do - Mangiapane scored more goals than Boeser ever has last year, still decent chance he can be salvaged - Stylistically, Mangiapane is more of a fit for Vancouver, has more speed and defensive skills, whereas Calgary wants a shooter - Both players get a fresh start, which Boeser especially needs - Same term on both contracts, so doesn’t affect projections much Both players are having tough years. But I think long term Mangiapane has the best shot at regaining his peak form, simply due to him having far less mileage and injuries to deal with.

[Discussion] Do You Have the Stomach For a Rebuild?
D-Money replied to Warhippy's topic in Canucks Talk
How could you not? We suck anyway, why not maximize it to build a team that might contend? What I can’t stomach are more wasted seasons. It’s madness. -

Dude has been killing it, with 16 points in his last 10 games. Possibly our future 3C?

It’s an interesting idea, but I think Florida would like to divert more money to improving their defence. I’ve often wondered about a similar deal with Carolina for Jarvis.
