...Just having fun with it - I could care less.

Stop laughing, @Sygvard - Brady Tkachuk's agent is PISSED.

You'd be even higher if you signed Jokiharju. Especially since you have only 5 D playing. If I were his agent, I'd be pretty mad at your nonchalance with his client.

Columbus Blue Jackets - October Report First Ohio Battery: 1. Phil Kessel - 80.5 Fpts Phil is absolutely flying out there, and on pace to have a career season for the 2nd year in a row. 2. Brad Marchand - 79.75 Fpts Brad is being Brad, but without suspensions (so far) 3. Viktor Arvidsson - 68.25 Fpts Viktor has anchored our 2nd line, to the point where we were comfortable trading Eric Staal. We're hoping his sudden injury yesterday is not too serious. 4. Ian Cole - 49.5 Fpts Ian scores so well in this league. Him having a poor season last year was a blessing in disguise, as it allowed us to lock him up at a very manageable number. Reduction in Rank: 1. Sergei Bobrovsky - 20 Fpts (10 while starter) Has been relegated to back-up most nights, with his poor start to the season. However, his last two games have been very promising, so it looks like Bob might be back. 2. Mathieu Perrault - 19.25 Fpts Although Mathieu's minutes are reduced due to his role on a strong team, he's generally much more productive than this. His first game of November was good though, so hoping that trend will continue. Recruit Training 1. Matt Luff is killing it this season, with 12 points in 8 games. LA needs scoring help, could Luff be up soon? 2. Cameron Hebig has had a fantastic start to his pro career, with 9 points in his first 7 games. 3. Liam Foudy showing his 2nd half last year was no fluke, with 6 goals and 9 points in 9 games for London. 4. Aarne Talvitie has 5 points in his first 5 NCAA games - no trouble adapting to smaller ice. 5. Nick Desimone rolling with 7 points in 9 games, likely first in line for D call-ups to San Jose. 6. Clayton Phillips with 4 points in 3 NCAA games, after getting zilch in 11 games last year.

Wild Wild Country - 9/10 One of the best documentary series I've ever seen. I wasn't familiar at all with the story of Rajneesh-Puram (it all happened when I was really young), and I wondered going in how they could make a 6-part mini-series about some silly commune...but it was totally engrossing from beginning to end. I was blown away at some of the major events that happened. The best part (and the sign of a well-done documentary), was that you not only were informed of multiple sides of an issue, but you walked away understanding all of the parties involved much more. So although you may not agree with what they did, you at least understand how they feel/felt, and what drove them to do it.

Another injury to a top player, with Arvidsson out. Also, another night of picking the wrong goalie - that's twice in a row now. But still, the team stepped up, with the 3rd most points of the night. Unfortunately, the wretched Rangers got 10 more, and added to their division lead.

Kings of October 1. Alex Debrincat - 81 points Alex has stormed out of the gate, and given management a young cornerstone player to build around going forward. We had high hopes for Alex when we acquired him, but he has smashed all expectations. 2. Devan Dubnyk - 70 points There are few veteran goaltenders more reliable than Duby. He just continues to chug out wins. 3. Joonas Korpisalo - 40 points Joonas is a young backup behind a franchise starter, so he has only had 5 starts so far. His last one was pretty rough, but prior to that he went 4-0. We feel he's developing nicely, and may be ready for increased workload in the near future. Court Jesters 1. Dmitry Orlov - 10 points Dmitry has a habit of starting the season slow, but still, this is pretty bad. 2. Vladimir Sobotka - 5 points Vlad has dealt with an injury, so we weren't expecting much...but this is still disappointing. ...Earlier I might have included Pontus Aberg here, but then he exploded with 19 points in the last few days. I've always liked him as a player, hope he can keep it going. -

Kings' management would like to address this. I thought about pointing to our record as the top team in the West 3 years in a row. And I thought about pointing to the 5 series wins we have had in that time. And I thought about referencing all of the picks and prospects that had to go out the door to keep that going, and how it is unsustainable. And I thought about maintaining that although "retooling", the team still plans to be a playoff team. ...But the thing is, players are smarter than insiders. Kings players know that they will have a shot to compete every year. And it's easy to see that with extensions needed for Miller and Smith last year; Doughty, Seguin, Hyman, and Brown this year; and many more this year...it's impossible to keep them all together (unless they took discounts to stay...but they don't want that either, right?). Doughty has already been extended, but a few of the others will have to move on, either by trade, or walking at free agency. It's simple math. Taking one last shot and then letting a guy like Seguin (or even Hyman) simply walk for nothing will be too costly. We just don't have a strong enough prospect system, and we don't currently have a single pick for this year (all traded to make the previous runs happen). So we are going to explore options with a few players in order to get younger. But we still intend to win the Pacific Division this year, and make a playoff run in the Spring. -
Foggy wasn't that bad in season 1 (which was outstanding). But he was easily the 2nd worst part of season 3 (which was not as good, but still great). ...The worst thing in S3 is Vanessa.

Thanks to @Brocks Flow for the easy negotiations, and to @thejazz97 for processing. Tuulola has some upside, but is at least a couple of years away. Goodrow hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire, and probably isn't performing well enough to bump anyone out of the current lineup. However, I wanted to add him while he was still waiver-ineligible. In another 15 games he loses that status, so he'll likely get stashed in the minors for the last 2/3 of the season, so we can use him as a playoff call-up.

Have the Blue Jackets Staalled? By Aaron Porkrind, Columbus Dispatch Less than a week ago, the Blue Jackets were sitting in first place - not only in the division, but in the whole league. The top line of Brad Marchand, Mark Scheifele, and Phil Kessel was firing on all cylinders. Also, Victor Arvidsson and Brian Dumoulin were playing some of the best hockey of their careers. Some others who had a slow start were starting to find their way, including goaltenders Martin Jones and Sergei Bobrovsky. It seemed the team was poised to not only defend the Cup this Spring, but to make a serious shot at the regular season title as well. Then inexplicably, the team dealt a core player, one of the top "2nd line" players in the league, Eric Staal. Although fans understand the cap concerns for next year, most agree that the window is open now, and don't think the move to acquire some futures depth was worth it. Their concerns were certainly not quieted by Staal's 13.5-point night yesterday for his new team. This, added to an injury to franchise defenseman Victor Hedman, has given reason for concern. The team has slipped to 4th overall, and fallen 32.25 points behind their divisional rival, the despicable New York Rangers. Given the strength of the Metro division (which has 4 teams in the top-7 right now!), winning the division should be a priority, which makes the move to deal Staal all the more puzzling. There are also some rumours that the goaltending situation is becoming untenable. The impending free agency and early-season struggles of 2-time Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky, combined the solid play of Martin Jones and David Rittich, has led many to believe that GM D-Money is seeking to trade Bobrovsky to upgrade other positions. After all, you can only start one goaltender. However, the official line from management is that they are willing to keep the status quo for now, and let Sergei find his game before exploring trade options. Crunch-time! On a positive note, prospect defenseman Nick Desimone is tearing up the AHL right now, with 7 points and a +4 in 9 games played. His partner on the first pair Devon Toews is putting up solid points as well. It seems only a matter of time before one of them gets a call-up, especially with Hedman on I/R. But with those 2, Daniel Brickley, Libor Hajek, Johnathan Kovacevic, and Joni Tuulola, the AHL blueline is quite stacked ATM, and might be a bit too crowded to allow for proper development. But rumour has it that one of the aforementioned players has been moved in a TBA deal to shore up the forward ranks.

2 more goals for Pontus Aberg - that's 4 in his last 2 games. But who needs that, right Edmonton? -
Frolik just keeps on scoring. Up to 27 pool points now. We've had a few discussions with other teams, but haven't settled on a deal yet. Willing to retain 50% (so only 2 years, $2.15M remaining).

Kings send down Travis Dermott, and recall Mathieu Joseph. @Nail -
Yeah, I need to go back and watch Barton Fink again one day. O'Brother is one of my all-time faves, but haven't seen it in a couple of years. Such a great flick.

The ironic thing is, when it comes to playing the crazy character, there are few better at it than John Goodman... But in the context of that show and his character in it...yeah, sounds just dull.

Thanks to @Boeserific for the cordial negotiations, and to @thejazz97 for picking up the slack for the AWOL commishes. It sucks to lose a contributor like Staal - who was a top-30 skater for Fpts last year. But with a number of impending UFAs coming, and no cap room to keep most of them, it seemed prudent to get some futures for one. Gauthier is an interesting prospect, and I think if he makes it, even in a depth role, he'll be a decent Fpt producer in this league. Also, this move gives me a lot more flexibility in setting line-ups. One guy who has been producing, but so far I've been unable to use due to cap and roster space, is William Carrier. Also, replacing Fehr for the waiver-ineligible Mamin gives me more wiggle room to cycle in Chartier more as well. As for Fehr, he was basically just a throw-in to replace Mamin. He hadn't been producing much, and I had considered putting him on waivers to call up Chartier. However, I sent in this trade Wednesday, and it didn't get completed until the weekend - and in the 2 games in between he put up over 15 points. If he continues to produce at a higher level, and Staal continues to be Staal, then Dallas did quite well here.

Caggiula, Pelech, and Brodin are scoring big points? Sounds like Schmidt was spreading something around...

Housekeeping time! Minnesota Wild activate Oskar Sundqvist and Martin Bakos from injured reserve. We send down Andreas Johnsson (no waivers) to the AHL to make room for Sundqvist. We place Martin Bakos on waivers for assignment to the AHL roster. @Tylez @Tigs
