  1. Just putting Eric Staal's name out again. Had some serious talks with a couple of teams back in June, but nothing came together, and then summer happened.
  2. Judging by the top of the Metro standings, the projections are obviously flawed.
  3. My family is not nearly as involved with gift-mania. But we have a room in our house FILLED with toys for my 2 kids. I mean, if I took all of the toys my brother and I had growing up combined, and doubled it, it probably would still not compare. However, I'd say 90% of them are hand-me-downs from their older cousins, who keep cleaning up their mountains for the next load. At least they're getting recycled. When the room starts getting too cluttered, we donate a box or two - but they just keep coming. Crazy folks...
  4. What is Amazon Music like? Now that I'm paying over $100/year for Spotify...
  5. Seconded. I have watched the whole series with my wife. Started out as just watching what she wanted to watch, but I quickly enjoyed it as well. It sputters at points, but is generally strong all the way through. Alan Cumming's character, Eli Gold, is outstanding.
  6. Day With The Cup - Joel Ward Joel Ward was acquired by Columbus at the trade deadline, however, due to health reasons, he never suited up for a single game for the team, regular season or playoffs. However, as a player he embodies "playoff warrior", and he was a fantastic influence in the room and in the gym. As such, although he did not get his name on the cup, the team unanimously decided to give him a ring, and a day with the cup. When asked what he would do with his day, he said, "Just chill with the Cup, man". We didn't realize he meant it so literally.
  7. Announcer at 15:30: "Boeser...has been the best player in this league - night in, night out."
  8. Columbus would like to give a meaningless pat on the back to the players who made NHL.com's arbitrary "Top 20" lists: Top 20 Wingers #5 - Brad Marchand #13 - Phil Kessel #20 - Viktor Arvidsson Top 20 Defensemen #1 - Victor Hedman Top 20 Centres #7 - Mark Scheifele (bubble - Eric Staal) Goalies aren't out yet, but I imagine Bobrovsky will be near the top of that one as well.
  9. I saw that it was on Netflix, and thought, "Didn't he just make this same movie, just on a plane?".
  10. Day With The Cup - Brad Marchand Step 1: A hearty breakfast. Step 2: Celebrate with family. Step 3: Drink face off.
  11. You know that Mironov, Jokipakka, and Pedan all signed overseas, right? That's 3 contracts you can simply cancel.
  12. Central Intelligence - 4/10 I expected this to be dumb, but not THIS dumb. It had a decent cast too...wasted on a craptastic premise. I gave it a few points because I remember a few decent laughs - but now I can't even remotely recall what they were...may have just been the bourbon.
  13. We threw winning in year 1 out the window pretty early. (We were open to it, but didn't have guys fall to us who we felt were worth passing up on certain youth/prospects for.) Even still, we hope to at least compete by year 2. Some picks were personal favourites (see: @Monty suddenly doing a crazy reach on Jack Wise.) But generally, we have 2 rules: 1) What is the trade value? If I don't think I could trade player A for player B, but I could vice versa, then I'm picking player B. Contracts play into that a lot as well. A vet like Turris may seem to not fit our timeframe, but his contract runs for a while should we keep him, and if we test the market we would expect a ton of interest. Very flexible. 2) Defense >>> Forwards. It's going to be hard to find productive D in this scoring structure. So we definitely have put a premium on them.
  14. Love this song - and it was great live too (saw them Saturday at Calgary Folk Fest).
  15. This trade will help us try to repeat this year, and long term I think Hajek will be a top-4 guy one day. I know I'm gonna miss Orlov's awesome contract in 2019-20 and 2020-21, but I'll probably have to retool/rebuild during those years. Add in Chicago shedding 3 contracts to get back to 50, and the deal was good for both sides.
  16. Thanks. I really enjoyed Broadchurch too, but haven't seen the other 3. Will keep an eye out for them.
  17. ...That moment you realize that the founding fathers were slave-trading bastards.
