Day with the Cup - Phil Kessel For GMs and free agents, this is a busy (and possibly stressful) time, figuring out salaries, destinations, and the like. But for most of the Columbus Blue Jackets, it's still party time! Last week Phil Kessel had his personal day with the Stanley Cup. Phil may speak his mind on the ice and on the bench, but in his own free time, he's a quiet guy, who likes to unwind on the golf course. He's also a man of routine, who enjoys traditions. As such, the whole team knew where he'd be in the afternoon. But this year, Phil decided to expand his boundaries, and try something new. He's still a young man, who knows how to party. So he figured: "Let's get crazy...could we? I don't know...ah, screw it! Let's do this!... ...Meatballs & ice cream!!!"

Loved Moon - more than Arrival, and certainly more than Interstellar (which had, IMO, one of the worst endings of any movie I've ever seen). The theme was totally original, and fleshed out better than most. The monotonous nature of his work was essential to the theme, and thinking about how he feels is the whole point.

I still listen to this song regularly - one of my all-time favourites. Even though I haven't bothered with another Everclear song in years.

So, essentially what Eastside Hockey Manager was doing a decade ago. They even used the same "fog of war" descriptor. I'm game for ripping off EHM, but they continually half-a$$ it. Put it all in...but then, of course, you will have to come up with something original for next year...

He scored 20 points in 63 games last year. He likely would have had case for a Hutton-level contract (2 x $2.4). And if that was awarded, they couldn't decline it.
-
Was he eligible for arbitration? Maybe they thought he'd get a lot more than he's worth, and they'd be stuck with it. Perhaps they still sign him.
-
Well, after a big jump for Foudy, the rest were a mixed bag. A bit surprised Okuliar and Steeves didn't get selected, but they are both eligible next year. Okuliar, in particular, as he was rated in the top-70 by a couple sources, and 101st by McKeens. However, he is still very young. Perhaps he'll use this as motivation to work on his discipline, as he's pretty much a human wrecking ball. Here's a quote from Pronman: "However, one of the biggest problems with the Trencin native is that he is prone to going to the edge, looking over it, shrugging his shoulders and diving head first into the abyss. In short, discipline is an issue."

Canucks Top Ten prospects (Updated for 2018-2019)
D-Money replied to 48MPHSlapShot's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
To play that long, a player will likely require elite skill and absolute dedication. The Sedins were special not only because of their abilities, but also every year they were the top performers for the Canucks' physical testing. The two combined allowed them to remain effective. More and more, aging players who are dedicated, but not of elite skill (see: Lucic)...or full of skill, but not willing to train their butts off (see: Vanek)...are losing a step in their 30's and are being pushed not only down the depth chart, but right out of the league. -
IMO, Flames sold high on 2 guys, who had inflated stats due to who they played with. And they bought low on 2 younger players who had some struggles, but with their former coach there it's obvious he thinks they have more to give. And really, who would know better than him? Add in Ferland's contract status, and rumors that Fox was resisting signing, and Calgary wins this trade. By how much depends on how Hanifin and Lindholm finish developing.

Well, the first one certainly went well! Didn't expect Foudy to go 18th overall, and should be a great fit in Columbus. Will be watching with interest tomorrow to see where the other four draft eligible guys go.

Columbus Blue Jackets would like to congratulate Victor Hedman on winning the Norris trophy...and, more importantly, the Sbisa trophy!
-
Yes, I believe he has. Until the last few years, they usually gave it to SHL players. Perhaps they are going back to that, even though Hedman won the Norris.

Hornqvist produces like a SOB in this league.
-
Columbus Blue Jackets are open to offers on Eric Staal. 1st line C, can also play LW Had 419.75 Fpts last year (5.12/game) - 26th in the league among skaters Playoff team Hasn't missed a game in the past 3 seasons (in fact, played 83 one year!) Only a $4 million cap hit.

1 more little problem: All of my recent draftees have the correct year for their unsigned prospect status to expire (2020) - except G Kirill Ustimenko, who has 2019 for some reason. @thejazz97

He still needs to be sent to my minors on Fantrax. Thanks!

Columbus Blue Jackets - Draft Review After burning through most of our picks and prospects to win now, attention was turned to trying to re-stock the pool. We wanted to keep our core together, so adding high picks wasn't going to happen, but we managed to amass a number of late picks and use them on what we felt are great value. Also, we were pretty D heavy (had 8 NHL D-men and 3 prospects knocking on the door), so trading Jacob Larsson and Dan Hamhuis for picks and focusing on forwards with our higher picks helped balance things (and, in the case of Hamhuis, cut a bit more cap). The 2018 draft class: #35 - Drake Batherson, F #44 - Liam Foudy, F #96 - Jan Drozg, F #99 - Logan Hutsko, F #106 - Oliver Okuliar, F #122 - Simon Johansson, D #123 - Drake Rymsha, F #140 - Kirill Ustimenko, G #141 - Jacob Stenqvist, D #144 - Aarne Talvitie, F #145 - Fedor Gordeev, D #150 - Alex Steeves, F #153 - Clayton Phillips, D

We here in Columbus are glad we got ahead of the curve and pulled the trigger on Mike Hoffman. Great player and all... ...but his b!%&# is cray-cray.

O'Brien played some games for the Senators last year, and scored some Fpts. Decent chance he may play even more this year, if Ottawa ends up clearing house as many expect. But just don't have room for him on the roster.

Columbus Blue Jackets Stanley Cup Celebration Update The party continues to rage on in Columbus. Some highlights from the past few days: Dan Girardi can't stop blocking shots - seriously, there's tequila spilled everywhere...not cool, Dan Eric Staal passed out in the sun...his face is now darker than his hair Brad Marchand continues to get mocked for his new "Stanley Cup Chumpions" tattoo Patrick Marleau is currently having his 17th nap Religious & family man Dan Hamhuis surprised everyone by winning the keg-stand contest Vladimir Sobotka is still missing...no, seriously, has anyone seen Vlad?
-
Looks like it's already working!

Thanks to @Salter for processing, and to @Brocks Flow for the smooth negotiations. Columbus needed to cut some cap, and we had far too much money tied up in defense. This move gets us comfortably under where we think the cap will be, without sacrificing much in the way of Fpts. I really like Perrault, however, I'm also open to flipping him in a trade. PM if interested.
