  1. Sure. But also imploded in the last 2 games, with the playoffs on the line. Still lots of promise. Just was hoping for a bit more in his rookie season. But I said the same about Cory Schneider.
  2. Like I said, I'm not going to read into it, as adjustment periods are normal. However, I was hoping for better than 11th in save percentage among AHL rookie goaltenders. Maybe it was just me...
  3. Demko had a rough first year, particularly in the first half. Not going to give it too much weight in the grand scheme (Schneider had the same learning curve), but he certainly did not meet the expectations most of us had.
  4. What's with great actors going out on such low notes? Of course, the ones who died were just circumstances. But those who just made the decision to retire... ...perhaps working on that movie was the last straw.
  5. Seriously? Hutton had a tough sophomore year. Juolevi has underwhelmed. Chatfield and Brisebois have some promise, but it's early, and still odds are neither becomes a top-4 NHL D-man. I mean, Tryamkin could plateau/regress, but denying that he showed signs of being something special last year is being almost purposely obtuse. But whatever helps you deal...
  6. I encourage anyone who can afford it to get a membership at The Athletic. They're doing good work over there - well beyond what most of the hacks at the local papers have been regurgitating. ...For example:
  7. I had Crave. Didn't feel it was worth keeping for us. Netflix alone gives us enough programming to fill our TV time. And yeah, the app is terrible. There's a lot of content on Crave, but most of it is just not our style. There's no real kids programs, and not a whole lot of "family friendly" stuff My wife loved having all the old Frasier and Cheers shows, but she had already watched them when we had access to American Netflix.
  8. The best one I remember was when the voiceover said some long diatribe about European economic reform. It cut to the headbangers, and they were just standing there, looking puzzled, until one of them finally said "...lame?". But then the next voiceover was "Breast reduction surgery" - cut to the grunge guys, and they were headbanging away, yelling "LAME! LAME! LAME! LAME!..."
  9. Seconded. Loved the Lame List, and High-Fivin' White Guys. That show was often funnier than SNL.
  10. We have VERY unproven goaltending - Miller made us look better than we were at times (which is scary). Also the Twins, Edler, Eriksson et al will all be 1 year older, so further regression should be expected for most. Not to mention, a lot of other teams near the bottom with us last year are likely much more improved. Buffalo and Florida shouldn't have the injury troubles they had, and their young key players will likely trend higher. Jersey is adding the #1 draft choice, and Schneider will likely bounce back. The Wings are a tire fire organizationally, but they have excellent goaltending. And the Coyotes and Stars may be the most improved teams in the league. All the rest of the league had over 15 points on Vancouver in the standings. If you're going to say Vancouver won't be a bottom-5 team next year, perhaps name 4 teams (other than Colorado) which are worse.
  11. Wife picked it. Held out hope that with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline it would at least be semi-decent. But nope...movie was even worse than the title.
  12. Allied - 7/10 Nice little movie. Pitt and Cotillard are great, and the supporting cast very strong. It's a bit disjointed and overly sentimental at times, but overall I enjoyed it. Ricki and The Flash - 3/10 Surprisingly bad. Not sure what Streep is doing slumming in this mess. Her character is a total loser, whose only redeemable quality is being lead singer in a substandard house cover band. Rather than develop the character in any meaningful way, or give any sort of insight into her backstory, it resorts to cheap laughs (or attempts at them, anyways) and long scenes of the band playing outdated cover songs.
  13. They'd be able to trade a first-liner for a couple of solid 2nd-3rd liners, plus picks. Saying we're better off having the inferior player is nothing short of pure idiocy.
  14. Well, "most 18 year old's who are defensive minded forwards" don't make the NHL. Most NHL-ers were beasts offensively in the lower levels, whatever their specialty ended up being in the show.
  15. He won't be more valuable than Nylander - I can promise you that. Even if TO can't afford Nylander, they can trade him for a boatload.
  16. So...you're saying Jake was a good pick because he's not as good?
  17. The Joker: "Do I look like I have a plan?" Todd Phillips: "...This...this speaks to me."
  18. Man on Wire - 6/10 Took me a long time to get around to watching this, and I don't really get the glowing reviews. I mean, it was cool to see the wire-walking footage, and semi-interesting to know how the twin tower walk came together. But there's not really 90 minutes worth of interesting material here. And by the ending I had a strong distaste for Phillipe the person...
  19. Founder - 7/10 Very interesting story, and Keaton is excellent in the lead role. But the pacing is a bit uneven, and most side characters aren't really given enough time/attention to be developed at all. So when the ending comes, and tells you what happened to them, you don't really care. Overall though, worth the watch.
  20. Rogue One - 7/10 Based on what I had heard, was surprised how much I enjoyed it. One common complaint was that the first 3/4 of it were boring, but I didn't find that at all. In fact, my main complaint is that it moved a little too fast at times, and gave up opportunities to develop the new characters more. Only two really made a strong connection (to me, anyways) - K2SO, and Galen Urso. Perhaps it was a casting misfire - because Galen Urso barely had any screen time at all, but the actor had such a commanding presence. And how little you care about the new characters is only magnified when Vader shows up.
