The Lost City - 4/10 Brutal. Other than a few scenes with Brad Pitt, it’s mostly crap. Makes me want to go back and watch Romancing The Stone again though.

Going with the earlier posts in this thread, if you took that $350 and bought Apple stock with it, you’d still be better off. And none of the expenses to store/maintain/etc.

What would it cost to store, maintain, and insure that (even if just storage insurance) for over 30 years?

[Signing] Senators re-sign Mathieu Joseph
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Joseph looked great after the deadline, scoring 12 points in 11 games. He was buried in a deep Tampa team before that, much like Verhaeghe a couple of years back. But still, seems like too small of a sample size to throw that much money at him. I guess if he keeps going at a top-6 rate it will look good, but it's a gamble. -
The best thing to do with Dickinson is let him play and hope last season was a blip. At the very least, if he has a decent season, maybe you can trade him at the deadline for a salary dump that expires at the end of this season.

$4.5 million? That's it? That's what 20-goal scorers are getting (Marchment, Olofsson, Mikheyev). He just scored more goals than Boeser ever has. It's more goals than Laine has scored since 2017-18. Josh Norris scored 35 last year too, and he just got almost $8M. I suspect Mangiapane's deal will be at least $6M.

[Speculation] Canucks exploring Tyler Myers trade

Quinn Hughes was -24 the year before last, in a shortened season. Guess he sucks... -
Tampa won 2 cups with a relatively small forward group. Their top 2 scorers were 5’11 (Kucherov & Point), and they had 5’8 Tyler Johnson and 5’9 Yanni Gourde playing checking roles. But they offset it with having a huge D-man group. McDonagh was the smallest regular D-man at 6’1. But it’s interesting that the players they have been shedding have been the smaller ones (Gourde, Johnson, Coleman, McDonagh). Also of note, they just lost to a team that had a relatively smaller D-corp, but a much larger average size of forwards. There’s room for smaller players on a winning team. But you have to strategize their deployment, and insulate them.

(Rumour) Tkachuk trade in the works
D-Money replied to cuporbust's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think part of the issue for all Canadian teams has to do with the pandemic. For a time period, it was incredibly hard to connect with family in the other side of the border. And there's no guarantee it won't happen again. All other things being equal, I could see players with lots of American family more inclined to want to be on a US-based team than before. As for a Calgary-specific reason, the rink is terrible. Even the stuff the average fan might not even see, the nuts and bolts underneath, are just so far below the standards of the rest of the league. If you've ever worked at a dump of a place, you probably have noticed an effect on you. That said, there is nothing specifically wrong with Calgary. Our own players left Vancouver to sign with the Flames. And last year the team had a great season, I doubt the players have any issue playing for Sutter - his tactics may wear on them if they stop winning so much, but for now how could they argue with the results? I think this all has to do with an individual. Gaudreau himself got put through the ringer in his last contract negotiation. Added to everything else - the border, the rink, the lack of team success, etc. - there were persistent rumours that he'd leave to return to an Eastern-based US team in free agency. I think that was his plan all along, but last year went so well for the team that he really considered staying, and the team also offered more than anyone else to keep him. But in the end, it was just better for him personally to leave. Now Tkachuk sees the team isn't good enough for him to win, and decides he would rather not deal with the border or rink either. He wants to go somewhere better for him personally, that probably also gives him a better shot at a cup. Had Gaudreau stayed though, he probably would have too. -
Carolina Hurricanes ELC Slides: 1) Brennan Othmann 2) Lukas Svejkovsky 3) Mikael Pyyhtia Carolina also sends down Michael Pezzetta, and recalls Radim Zohorna. @Nail
-
Can we assign ELC slides now? I only have 3 players under contract who are eligible (still 20 by September), so it's a pretty easy decision for me.
-
Thanks to @Rush17 for the negotiations. I had a few offers for Burakovsky when I put him on the block, but the others involved taking back a longer term contract. This one allowed me to trade a non-playoff player for a playoff one (even if Bruins falter, Smith is a pending UFA who will then likely be traded at the deadline), and free up some cap for next season, when a couple of my salary retentions end. Also, this is maybe the 4th time I've acquired Craig Smith in some fashion, so it's also just funny.
-
Really happy to have this one done. He won’t be a playoff player, but he should get lots of minutes and steady production throughout this contract. Also nice to have at least one D under 30 .
-
Thanks to @Bombastik der Teutone for the negotiations. It’s not near what I paid for Kuemper, and only a fraction of what I would have recouped had he extended in Colorado, but it is what it is. I like what Washington did this offseason, and think Kuemper will do well there. So I’m glad to be moving him out of the conference. And Othmann is a nice prospect with legitimate top-6 potential, so he’s a great addition to the prospect pool.

[Report] Andrej Sekera announces retirement
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Yeah, he was a really good player until age-related decline started, and he fell hard. Went from legitimate 2nd pairing guy to fringe NHL-er seemingly overnight.
