  1. That’s quite a reach. Demitra played for multiple teams, most notably the Blues. Canucks were a footnote at the end of his career. Plus, he didn’t actually die when he was a Canuck.
  2. Kopitar has already won 2 cups. As much as he’d surely love to win another, it’s not quite the same as a guy like Wheeler signing for cheap.
  3. I told my wife she was drawing in her eyebrows too high. …She looked surprised.
  4. Well that’s just it. Pittsburgh is screwed in a couple of years regardless. Crosby is 35, Malkin 36, and Letang 36, and they have no top prospects coming. They likely have no fear about the last 2 years of Karlsson’s contract, because they know they will be rebuilding anyways. In fact, they might be the only team that would do it with little retention. If they can send Granlund and Petry back in the deal, that covers nearly the entire $11.5M for the next 2 years. If they get just a couple mil retention, they can field a 22-man roster and be under the cap.
  5. Promising young defenseman. It's nice to finally have a few of those ourselves.
  6. I already liked this band, but this one took it to another level…
  7. One of the top AHL players, never really got a shot with Sutter the coach. He’s got a lot of speed & skill. Be interesting to see if he succeeds at the NHL level, if only to rub it in the faces of my Flames fan friends.
  8. Not to my knowledge. He’s a purely offensive D-man though, so if he makes it he’ll likely be a 3rd pairing guy you have to shelter, who is a PP specialist (like a poor man’s Tyson Barrie). He might have a shot with the Sharks if they manage to move Karlsson.
  9. Both have spent a lot of time at RD, particularly Cole. Gives us a lot of flexibility, so either can play with Hughes at RD, or Hronek at LD.
  10. You kind of answered your own question there. Maybe he doesn’t want to be a 3C. In Nashville, he’ll be the top dog.
  11. Or maybe he has a fantastic couple of years, and comes back a better player? Let’s say, like a poor man’s Nichushkin? May as well retain the rights, just in case.
  12. Pass. Pesce is already showing some signs of age-related regression. He’s trending the same as Parayko. For what it will cost to acquire him, on top of the cap hit and term to extend him, it’s just not worth it.
  13. My grief counselor just died. He was so good - I don’t even care.
  14. Oilers have been trying to trade Yamamoto for a while. Rumour was they were even considering a buyout (which would be 1/3 because of his age). Yam has skill, and can put up points in the regular season (while alongside McD or Drai…but a lot of players can). But he was really ineffective in the playoffs. Took a lot of bad penalties too.
  15. I think they’re going to dump Martinez, who has 1 year left in his deal. That will clear up over $5M.
  16. This is a repeat of what they did with Nate Schmidt. Dump him for a pick (also a 3rd) and use the salary space to sign an even better player. Even though the pick isn’t as high as you’d expect, it’s still a huge win overall for Vegas.
  17. Both Foote and Steel are interesting, IMO. Yet another reason to pass on qualifying Bear.
  18. Not the GM. Guess he could be involved. Or maybe, it’s just MacFarland is smart and a good negotiator - two things that don’t necessarily correlate to the ability to play hockey well.
