  1. To be honest, Nurse was probably a top-10 D man last year. He was definitely better than Jones and Werenski. Once they got that money, it seemed inevitable that Nurse would get similar to stay in Edmonton. But he doesn’t have the body of work that most of the top guys do. Will he keep it up? Or was last year an outlier?
  2. The Carolina Hurricanes would like to welcome Lukas, Nicolas, Berglund, and Adams to the organization. We'd also like to apologize to @Nail for the flood of offers he got from us. Deslauriers and the recently acquired Carrier should provide a lot of grit at the bottom of the line-up. Svejkovsky and Adams are nice additions to our forward prospect pool. And I'm super-stoked to be able to land Victor Berglund to the D prospects - very high on him, so he became a priority among our free agent offers. Still have a number of spots to fill, and a bunch of offers outstanding. Hoping to finish off the 23-man roster with our limited cap space, without having to depend on more than 2 of our prospects making the show in October.
  3. Boeser’ qualifying offer will be $7.5M. And if he continues to play like he did last year, he shouldn’t have to accept less.
  4. Not currently, no. They may even have a slight bump due to Sutter's defensive systems. But there is no high-end talent coming. So they will likely continue to meander as a bubble team for a few years, then have to start all over again.
  5. There's nothing new in that article. It just expands briefly on the headline, and summarizes his financial/legal troubles. It's crazy how good of a hockey player Evander is, and yet how many reasons you wouldn't want him on your team.
  6. Bought tickets to the upcoming tour in November. Will likely be my first concert in a very long time.
  7. Glad Schmidt sounds excited about being in Winnipeg. He really got a raw deal with Vegas, and it's too bad things didn't work out better here. He's a much better player than most here seem to think he is. Wish Nate all the best in Winnipeg, and I think they'll actually do quite well next year.
  8. I can see why Avs didn't want to give Gru the contract Seattle did. He's been injured a lot, and playing behind an elite team likely boosted his numbers quite a bit. I suspect Kuemper may be an even better goalie for them. But there's no doubt Sakic got himself in a jam, and had to overpay to secure a good starter with not many options. I mean, the Vezina winner was just traded for nothing, and Nedelkovic not much more. This seems extreme by comparison.
  9. Never been through a divorce, I gather? When the emotions get strong, even seemingly normal and level-headed people can do some crazy stuff to try to get back at the other. When I first heard there was allegations, I was concerned that they were true. But now the source, I'm less inclined to believe them.
  10. Grubauer Saad Donskoi Graves Timmins Nice to see them forced back to the pack a bit.
  11. Yeah, doesn't make much sense... Unless there's another injury we're not aware of.
  12. 39 GP last year, 1 point. Decent defensively though. Might shield Rathbone/OJ on the bottom pair.
  13. Not sure what Holland is doing. Didn't he learn anything from Frans Nielsen, Justin Abdelkader, Dale Helm, etc. These "try hard" guys don't tend to age well.
  14. It's too bad Schmidt didn't work out. Seemed like a really good guy. And on paper, at least, he should have been a great fit here. But sometimes things just go sideways - I certainly don't blame him for wanting a fresh start after how last season went for the team. Considering that he had a tough season, was a year older, and was rumored to want out, getting a 3rd back without retaining any or taking money back is not bad at all. I still like the player, and hope he fits in well in Winnipeg. I think they're going to have a great year.
  15. This. He wasn’t healthy enough to bring his A game all year, but really showed up in the playoffs. And that happened in Pittsburgh too. Some players can stand out during the season, but disappear when the intensity gets ratcheted up. For instance, I like Khaira, but so far in his limited playoff experience he hasn’t done much (8GP, 1A, -2, 8 PIMs). If you can sign a guy like Sutter for less than $2M, it’s a win.
  16. Hunt actually had a solid 2019-20 season with Minnesota. Played almost the whole season for them, and produced well. Even played in all 4 playoff games against us. But didn’t do much this past year, on a better/deeper Wild team. He’s a decent guy to have around as a #8 defenseman, and if sent down gets to be a draw for the AHL club. Totally zero-risk move.
  17. Most teams probably won’t pay up for Schmidt while they have potential options to fill the role in free agency. Problem in Winnipeg is they can’t depend on getting free agents, so they had to trade for what they needed. If a Schmidt trade happens, it probably won’t be until after the free agent options are all snapped up. Problem is though Vancouver will have to sign his replacement, which might weaken their leverage.
  18. The dream would be another Klingberg here. RH Swedish D-man with skating ability and some size drafted in the 5th round. It’s a lottery ticket at this point, but you can’t win without a ticket!
