  1. Maybe. It wasn’t too long ago that Colorado were being hailed as one of the league’s worst tire fires.
  2. And if they win, let alone win multiple times, it will have been worth it. Being awful isn’t a bad strategy. Sometimes, it’s better than picking 9th.
  3. That was a very realistic article. Canucks aren’t a couple years and a few players from being an elite Cup contender. Even if things go right (and they eventually become one), it will take 3-5 years.
  4. Fun fact: Canucks actually save cap (total over 2 years) burying Roussel in the AHL, rather than buying him out.
  5. Had the privilege of seeing this song live twice: The album version is alright, but this was a song made for live performance. The energy and intensity is incredible.
  6. I wouldn’t. Love Jones, but he’s either going to a winner, or getting PAID. And him alone won’t make us a contender. We need more depth.
  7. The despondent Carolina Hurricanes would like to congratulate the Tampa Bay Lightning for a hard-earned series win. We were the highest scoring team to get eliminated, and had enough points to beat half the winners, but it was a tough 1st round match-up, thanks to the numerous deadline acquisitions that @Tylez made. Great GM-ing, bud! I'll be cheering for you next round. We had high hopes to go for back-to-back cups, but it was not to be for this season. The COVID cap freeze kind of screwed with our plans, and we had to pinch pennies on a lot of our depth. As such, many of the depth players we had acquired didn't end up playing in the first round of the playoffs. Add in injuries and suspensions to some core players, and we just didn't have enough juice to get through. Next year though we plan to make another run, and go for 'the Chicago' (3 cups in 5 years). Hopefully we'll be able to acquire better depth to surround our stars with. Looking forward to the offseason!
  8. In the multiple Boston series I thought Marner was excellent. But these past 2 years he’s been trash. Guess he got paid...
  9. I guess that’s what happens when you play 5D chess - you fall into another dimension.
  10. It’s true, he plays lots of minutes. But the results when he’s on the ice are not very good. (A trend that goes back pretty far.) And he doesn’t play “the hardest matchups”. Last year most of those went to Edler and Schmidt. And in the playoffs, when his physicality is a big asset, the rest of his game has seemingly dried up. He doesn’t have a single point in his last 16 playoff games. In the bubble he was a -5, and his penalties were a big problem. So if a guy plays big minutes, but when it matters most produces no offence, allows goals against, and puts you shorthanded more than any player in the entire league... maybe getting someone else to play those minutes is at least a consideration? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to completely crap on Myers. He’s a serviceable #4 defenseman. It’s just what he gets paid for that is far too high, and it’s not going to get better as he gets older. If Seattle wants to take that financial burden on, I think it would be in the team’s best interest not to stop them. I think Hamonic is as-good-or-better, and would cost far less to retain. And there should be some talented D available at the draft for a discount, due to the expansion draft.
  11. Holy hell, what a bad take. Schmidt played most of his minutes against the top players on the other teams. And yet, he still scored a half-point per game, and was a combined +44 in his 3 years in Vegas. He was fantastic. And his numbers in Washington in a reduced role also were impressive. It’s possible that age and adapting to a new team/system affected his game a lot last year. But I suspect the pandemic has a lot to do with it too. He seems like a very gregarious guy, who would enjoy hanging out with him teammates. Not being able to do that all year must have weighed on him, just like it has with most other people and their friends and workmates.
  12. Protecting Schmidt is a no-brainer. But I sure hope they can acquire a D-man at the draft more deserving of a protection spot than Myers. His contract makes him pretty much immovable. If Seattle wants to clear that of the books for us then... please?
  13. He played mostly right side in Vegas, and fared well. But I’m not knowledgeable enough to be certain if there are systemic differences that make it more difficult for him to do it in Vancouver. (However, I do have a hunch that Baumgartner sucks.)
  14. Schmidt has a 10-team no-trade list. I promise you that Buffalo is on it.
  15. Even if RNH accepts a paycut, I don’t think he’s the type of player we need. They team needs better defensive structure. A guy like Phillip Danault would be perfect. Would be 3C even strength on paper, but get lots of match-up minutes. And then be 1st unit PK and 2nd unit PP.
  16. If we want a shot at signing Jones - or any other big ticket UFA - the best thing we can do is start winning. After the train wreck of this season, I don’t expect many guys with lots of options lining up to sign here long-term. Fortunately, that could change quickly. After the bubble playoffs, the view of the team had shifted. Returning to the playoffs and maybe winning a round could go a long way to having some good options in free agency by July 2022.
  17. Schmidt had a tough season. Don’t think he has much trade value right now. Unless he has requested a trade, we’re better off holding him and hoping he improves. In Vegas though he was paired with a shutdown guy (McNabb). It would be nice to find a more solid partner for him, but think it will be Hughes, Edler, and Rathbone next year on the left side.
  18. Source? He only has a 10-team no-trade list. Don’t think he has to waive anything. The story was Vegas asked him where he’d like to go most, as recompense for flipping him so soon after signing that deal, and he chose Vancouver. But Schmidt had a tough season, and probably doesn’t have much value right now. Unless he has requested a trade, we’re better off holding onto him and hoping he improves.
  19. I’ll agree on St. Louis. I’d say they’re actually worse... except Canucks caught them at a lot point for goaltending. But Minnesota are a lot better. Still solid defensively, but got a big upgrades up front in Kaprisov, and in net Talbot looks better. Gave Vegas fits in the regular season, and finished 9th overall.
  20. Like what I’ve heard so far! I was a big fan of Brothers, and Dan Auerbach’s first solo album. But the Black Keys’ last album was pretty dull. Glad to hear they’re doing back to their roots. Speaking of that Auerbach album...
  21. Not sure we have the cap for this, but I like the idea. Most likely Jake will be bought out. It’s only 1/3, and the way the contract was structured there will be very little penalty for the club.
