[Waivers] Connor Carrick, Eric Comrie
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Carrick was one highly touted by the Leafs fanbase, kind of like Frank Corrado here. But then the Leafs got both... and the fans found out they both sucked. -
Carolina sends down Mathias Brome (no waivers). This is to make room for the incoming player. @Nail

Carolina places a claim on Mark Jankowski. @Nail

We’d like to welcome new GM and agent... @Bonty!

Quick question for @Nail & @Monty: Are the NTC/NMC lists getting reset mid-season?
-
What are you talking about? It already happened again with the Karlsson trade (Ottawa was on the other side of it this time). There are definitely some similarities between the Canucks and that Avs team. One being the one year where each defied analytics and expectations and had a bit of a playoff run, which prematurely raised expectations

[Discussion] Tanner Pearson Can We Really Keep him?
D-Money replied to Rush17's topic in Canucks Talk
We suck now with him, and he's not going to get better...so may as well get something for him at the deadline. -
Girl who stupidly used Gorilla Glue for hair has hired a lawyer: TMZ
D-Money replied to Dazzle's topic in Off-Topic General
That poor woman was hurt quite badly (think it required skin grafts), as a result of corporate negligence. And after appeals, she only received a small fraction of damages as to what was originally awarded. This is nothing like that situation. This is an idiot who put glue in her hair, and was surprised that it is now glued. And she’s not even physically hurt either - she can just shave her head and the problem goes away (well, the glue problem anyway, can’t do much about her being an idiot). -

(proposal) BOS-Van or OTT-Van
D-Money replied to Nicklas Bo Hunter's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Kase averaged 15:30 TOI for Boston in the playoffs. Virtanen is/was a frequent healthy scratch. Why would Boston want to downgrade? Paul has played every game for Ottawa, and has done well. He is their only regular player with a positive +/-. Why would they want to trade him for an unknown making almost twice as much, let alone add a pick? At this point, Virtanen isn’t going to get us anything more than a 3rd round pick. Green is likely gone as coach soon, so at this point it’s better just to hang onto Jake and hope he finds new life under a different coach. -
Chatfield played 147 AHL games, and scored a total of 18 points. I don’t think there are too many players with so little impact offensively that have gotten more than a cup of coffee in the NHL in the last decade. But Chatfield has played 9 games, and 129 total minutes of icetime. Seems crazy that Benning thought he’d be an effective depth guy.

(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block
D-Money replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I’m not saying it’s anyone’s fault but Virtanen. But that doesn’t mean a new coach might be able to push buttons that Green can not. Happens with lots of players. I wanted Virtanen gone in the offseason - even if that meant not qualifying him and spending the money on someone else. But Benning chose to keep him, so might as well ride it out to see how he does under a new coach. -
(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block
D-Money replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Although I’m far from a fan of Virtanen, I also think it would be foolish to move him with the coach likely leaving soon. He’s been playing for Green for YEARS. Maybe a fresh start is just the jolt he needs? We’ve gone this far, and his value is almost zero. No sense trading him and watching him get the fresh start somewhere else, with nothing to show for it but a 4th round pick. -
[GDT] Around the NHL | February (07-13) 2021
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
I agree. Offside reviews are stupid - scrap them altogether. Officials miss other infractions. If they miss an offside, just chalk it up to the same. 99 times out of 100 it's within inches and wasn't a glaring error that gave a team an advantage. -
Not only that, but Miller also watched the team that traded him away go on to win the Cup. That's gotta sting too. Part of what may have drove him last year was to prove Tampa wrong. He definitely proved he was better than most thought, but Tampa still proved that they didn't really need him. Then he watched a bunch of the leadership core walk out the door. Not only that, but reports came from all of them that they felt burned by Canucks management during negotiations. Guys who laid it all on the line in the bubble, felt their efforts weren't appreciated. (Meanwhile, the team committed to keeping Virtanen.)That might have affected the motivation of others on the team.

I'll show you two: Andreas Athanasiou and Kyle Clifford. Unless Pearson for some reason agrees to a paycut to stay in Van, he should be traded at the deadline. He should attract the most interest. We could circle back to him in the offseason and take a shot at bringing him back, if its the best option.
-
So much wrong with this. For one, we’re not trading Miller. He’s on a great contract for 2 more seasons after this one. This is a weird year, so chalk it up to that and hope he (and the team) come back better next year. Secondly, a team can only retain on a maximum of 3 contracts. So need to use that sparingly, for teams that need it and are willing to pay for it. Third, Eriksson is going to cost us something to move, even with 50% retained. Pretty sure the team will look into that option this offseason. That said, I’m definitely in favour of trading Pearson, Sutter, Hamonic, and Benn. And this year presents a unique opportunity. A Canadian team is guaranteed to go to the 3rd round, and there’s no clear powerhouse to go through, so all the teams left in it are going to want to add. But if we bow out, the 5 teams at the top can only trade with Ottawa and Vancouver, unless the incoming player goes through quarantine. Prices should be high to get a player who can step into the lineup immediately. In fact, the above situation may even prompt a team into taking a bad contract on with another year on it, such as Roussel or Beagle. If prices for rentals are through the roof, and a team has a sudden injury and some LTIR space, picking up an NHL-er for nothing may look enticing enough to deal with the extra year later.

[Rumour] Sam Bennett requests trade
D-Money replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Exposed? Heck, I’d be offering quite a bit to ensure Seattle takes Myers. He has the only really bad contract with more than another year left on it. -
I agree with this. There are far more benefits to blowing this season and missing the playoffs altogether, than there would be just missing out getting owned in the 1st round: - A Canadian team is guaranteed to make it to the 3rd round. The ones in the race will want to add at the deadline. But if we’re out of the race, the only teams the remaining 5 teams can trade with (without a 2 week quarantine) are us and Ottawa. Prices should be high for rentals, so we should be able to get decent returns for Pearson, Hamonic, and Sutter. - Because of the above, we might be able to ditch an overpaid player with term remaining, like Roussel or Beagle. If prices are high, and one of the Canadian teams runs into injury troubles, they might be desperate enough to get a player ASAP. - Potential lottery pick - self-explanatory. - Benning needs to go. He made some good draft choices, but the mismanagement is impossible to ignore. I’m scared of what he might do to try to save his job if the Canucks are still in it.

Oh well, guess Dansk stays for now...
