  1. but... but.....power forwards take longer to develop!!
  2. I think Tryamkin has some untapped offensive potential and it was on display last night. It looked like he intentionally shot wide a couple times, which lead to one of Baertschi's goals and the Burrows goal which is where he picked up his assists. He also made some heads up play at the blue line. Combined with his cannon of a shot, I think he can be a top 3 defenseman for us for a long time.
  3. That's unfortunate. Really wanted to see him light it up at this year's WJC
  4. I've wondered that too. He looks completely different from the player he was in Florida, where he was a beast night in and night out. What happened to that guy?
  5. I think it's a team thing. Skille didnt wear one in preseason but he has one on now too.
  6. Same with Puljujarvi if the Oilers decide not to keep him around for the season.
  7. I just got back from watching an informal Canucks practice at UBC. I kept an eye on Tryamkin as I found him intriguing last year and thought he could be a force on the Canucks. Holy smokes this guy is big. He kept talking to Pedan, and it would be amazing to see him and Pedan be a third line pairing for the Canucks for the probably the largest defense pairing in the league. Some observations: He looks a lot faster than last year. His agility seems to have caught up more to his giant strides. His edgework is very smooth and his pivots are crisp. He can cover a ton of ground with ease. When he gets going, he's like a freight train. His shot looks even more powerful. His slapshot can probably rival Pedan's for hardest on the team Communication skills seem to be improving. He was able to talk more and joke around with more teammates. Last year he mostly kept to himself (except for Hamhuis who was mentoring him and Hutton, who kept trying to joke with him).
  8. Isn't Juolevi also available to play in the AHL? I thought Benning mentioned that at the draft. If so, it could be a good idea to have him develop with Travis Green for a year.
  9. Not sure if this scouting report has been posted but this guy compares Juolevi (in terms of style) to Ryan Suter: http://lastwordonsports.com/2016/04/06/olli-juolevi-scouting-report-2016-nhl-draft-7/
  10. I agree. Vey has been crapped on so much, that he's starting to become underrated around here. I think his best is still yet to come. However, I just don't see a spot for him in the lineup. Our center spots are full (Henrik, Sutter, Horvat, Granlund) and I am not sure if he's suited for a bottom six winger role.
  11. Somewhere, WD is crying.
  12. They were playing dodgeball. Virtanen and the Canucks had it posted on Instagram.
  13. Won the Stanley Cup with the Canucks in my 2nd season over the Lightning. Traded Miller for a 2nd rounder. Prust and Cracknell for Ty Rattie and Robby Fabbri. Weber for Alex Petrovic. Hamhuis for Nikita Zadorov. Burrows for Athanasiou. Vrbata for Kylington. Higgins for Toronto's 2016 first round pick and another prospect. Drafted Juolevi and Sergachev with my 2 first round picks. Bartschi, Horvat and Virtanen led the way with all of them with 20+ points in the playoffs.
  14. With that scouting report, he sounds like another Ben Hutton.
  15. Just a quick chat. I told him the fans are excited about Tryamkin and that we think he is doing a good job (unlike most of CDC). He thanked me and said that there is lot to look forward to. Messing around: https://streamable.com/ssul Yup that was Tryamkin. His skating is actually pretty amazing, considering his size.
  16. Hey guys, just got back from another practice at UBC. This time Tryamkin practiced with the team. Here are my notes: He just absolutely towers over everybody on the ice Paired with Hamhuis. Hamhuis spent a lot of time talking to him telling him where to go after each play. Guys had a hard time getting by him. He has a great skating stride and covers a lot of ground in a hurry. Burrows, Baertschi and even Virtanen struggled to get past him His reach is huge. Broke up a lot of plays with well timed poke checks, strong positioning and anticipation. The team seems to have taken a liking to him. The Sedins, Hutton, McCann and Gaunce all spent a lot of time talking to him. These types of personal interactions are not usually not reported on but they are things that I like to watch. Hutton tried to make sure that Tryamkin followed him on some drills. He would explain things to him but it appeared Tryamkin didn't understand at first. Hutton always made an effort to make sure Tryamkin understood. Kid's a beauty. Virtanen already started joking and trying to mess with Tryamkin He has an absolute cannon for a shot. Probably the hardest on the team at the moment. Hutton and Sbisa were setting him up for one-timers and he blasted all of them. Hard, low and heavy shots. Even went bar down from OUTSIDE the blue line a couple of times. Here's a quick video I took of one of his shootout attempts (bonus Jim Benning at the end, who was standing next to me. We had a nice chat): https://streamable.com/0iuh Also have some other notes about the practice (ie. Virtanen fought Etem) but will save those for another topic.
  17. Hey guys, I just got back from the Canucks practice at UBC and have a few notes on Tryamkin: First off, he's huge. He absolutely towered over Sutter He has great skating stride. He didn't go full speed but I didn't expect him to after a long flight and not much sleep Has a solid shot. Has a strong and accurate slap shot from the point Seems comfortable handling the puck Didn't participate in main practice with the rest of the team but he watched for a bit. He is one of the biggest humans I have ever seen. These notes aren't too remarkable and seem fairly obvious. Hope to see more of him in the next couple days though. I have more notes on the main practice, but will save them for another topic. Let's just say yesterday's win really lifted the mood on this team. Virtanen is a joker and Sbisa asks many questions.
  18. Ehlers (smaller, skill player) is a better fit for the Jets because the already have the bigger and more physical players to make space for him. Canucks do not have that kind of depth yet, hence why we drafted Virtanen.
  19. He's really put in the work on his skating. I saw him when at his first prospects camp with Canucks and he looked like one of the slowest skaters out there. Now, his skating is one of his great assets. It's rare to find someone that big with that skating ability.
  20. I don't think he's trolling. He sounds pretty serious to me.
  21. I miss the RPM line. That was a fun line to watch.
  22. Yeah, its pretty sad how he thinks having good looking tinder matches proves how high his standards are.
  23. Seriously, he looks like Hossa in that highlight video.
  24. Yeah I agree with you. I think it was Jeff Patterson who noticed this on the draft floor.
