Even Chicago passed on Bouchard and Dobson. And Dobson fell even lower. If you thought we were going to get Tkachuk or Zadina there was no chance. I thought the nucks wanted Hughes but didnt think we had a chance - this is good day for Benning. Hughes was very decent at the worlds

no way, centers are worth a lot and every assessor was saying this kid is a legit NHLer. I thought he might go higher and even wondered about Van. That is a good pick the yotes.
-
homerun as far as picking 7. I figured this is who Van wanted but never imagined he would be there. I wanted Brady or Hughes but thought they were no goes. I am not sure Van would have even taken Zadina over Hughes. Christmas today!

He hasn't played a whole season yet so you don't really know what he has in him. He is a bubble player or what you would call a 4th liner. But in that limited role he was one of our most effective bubble guys. 27 games 9 points and -1 is respectable. He was good on the pk and Green used him with Sutter in the last minute to close out games. He said he needs to get faster but as an experienced player he did well compensating for that by very good positioning and stick. He is also very decent down low and along the boards. Green will definitely want him signed. I watched most of the games last year and I didn't really think we were getting pushed around on a nightly basis. There were a few times during the season where that was the case, but Archie wasn't even with the team at that point.

wonder if this would have been the case if he had stayed with the nucks and had a year of Green.

Sven's ideal spot is on a good team as a third line guy with some second line minutes at times. The main problem with him are the injuries. He is not big, strong or fast and his game now has to be a grind it out go to the dirty areas. To his credit he does that.

upon impact was moving his feet and limbs, walked off the ice but with help, was not hospitalized, no broken bones or other severe damage. 'Could it have' been worse - yes - but was it a career ending injury - no. People on hand at the moment (dr's) thought it might be a deep bruise. Do you understand what the word hypothetical means? Brock is being hypothetical, my observations at the time were based on what I saw and later proven to be correct in that his injuries were not as severe as people thought. His injuries were not career threatening. I have no doubt that a play like that could be potentially very injurious, but that was not that case and nor did it look like it at the time. As a big fan of his glad he wasn't more seriously injured.

yeah and at that time Lemieux was mr dangles. the NHL is at a different level these days.
-
Watch the dangles
-
Yeah his teammates seem to think the kid is off the charts. I like the one guy who says with some of his dangles you have to look at video to figure out what he did. He will need some time to adjust to the game here but it looks like we might be getting the next Mario Lemieux

His favorite player growing up was Peter the Great.

This also very good.

Green doesn't clash with players. He tells you how to play and either you do or don't. If you don't play the way he wants you don't play. Coaches are hired to decide how the team should play. Pretty simple and professional. Jake and Goldy seemed to get it. Green the coach doesn't come across as someone who takes things personally. Green has a lot of experience as a player and a coach. I like Hutton but sometimes he was worse than a beer league player - I am not kidding either. Hopefully, he is up for the challenge.

his career to date seems to be about people not giving him chances or believing in him. everyone loves those kind of guys (burrows) who show the determination.

In the presser green deflected when asked what Ben’s strengths are. No he isn’t a right off but I don’t think his skating and bad play can be fixed in a summer. Jake had a large part of last season in Utica working with Green and this year as well. Jake in his presser mentioned his time learning in Utica as an important reason for his good season this year. They invested a lot of time in Jake and Goldy this season. Wonder if Ben got that attention as well? I will be very surprised if Hutton makes the team out of camp.

agreed. Archie plays a game that doesn't stand out if you are not looking at positional play, puck battles and just good solid and simple play. He plays a mature game and you need guys like that.
-
Wow, he had is down nights like every player on the team but if you didn't notice he played PK and shutdown role with Sutter and they were very solid. In close games he logged big minutes and was on the ice for the final minutes numerous times. In other words Green likes him and trusts him. Positional play was very solid. Along the boards and in puck battles again very solid. Was good moving the puck out and was good down low for us including parking himself in front of the net. For a guy with 45 games in the show he was very good. this year 9 points in 27 games and a -1. He will get a one way for sure and deserves it. Green next year has his 2 guys already for his shut down - Archie and Sutter - that is a no brainer.
-
Gaunce was a healthy scratch for the final game. There is Motte and Archie who make it harder for Gaunce.

He will be 25 this month. He looks good in that part as you said, but did nothing offensively this year and in our own end his skating is very poor. I think he has been surpassed by other players. Cannot get complacent in NHL or someone will take your job.
-
No, not carbon copies at all. Ben will be 25 this month. Jake 22 in August. 3 years difference in the game of hockey can be significant. Ben’s skating is a big problem in our end and that cannot be fixed in a summer. These last 2 nothing games he did not look good at all. You are right about him not being tradeble. Hutton got complacent about his development and now we got better guys in the system. If he was younger you could say he has time but I don’t think he does. Jake on the other hand made huge progress this year
-
i would concur with the scrambly, in our end he looked out of place and lost at times. Outside of the Sedins that is who i spent my time watching. Around our end he doesn't look good on his skates. I think Van will try and trade him if they can cause i dont think he is good enough for this team. He is not better than Del Z Troy, Edler, Tanev, Pouliot, Gud and then we got Juolevi, Sautner in the wings. Pouliot was dominate tonight - nothing game, but if that is what he can bring consistently then wow.
-
hard to say if he can stick. at times he has a trouble getting the puck out of our end. doesn't do well in puck battles either. If u are a small guy you need to be like Johnny hockey or be a pocket superman. Of the recently additions Motte, leipsic, joki - i think the leipsic has been third on the list. Motte is not playing cause of waiver issues but the last 2 games he was very impactful. Don't get me wrong I like leipsic and want him to succeed, but his game needs substantial work which can only be a the NHL level, but if you look what we got coming next year, it will be hard for him to stick. Motte on the otherhand looks like he can play pk and 4th lines minutes effectively.
-
I think he has looked really good, fast, good plays with the puck - he's made some nice passing plays, knows where he is supposed to be and isn't afraid of the rough stuff. He is going to be a good player for us for sure.
