  1. The sample size is small but Sautner plays like he’s got years of NHL experience behind him. He looks very promising for us. For the tank crowd Sautner was undrafted. With everything going on his play is flying under the radar. Stay tuned with him, I think we’ve got something more.
  2. We have a few more years of high picks left. Hard to say when we started rebuilding. My view was Wille's last year which was 2 years after our last playoff showing. So we are year 2 of what some pundits think is a 7-10 year project (their rebuild start could be earlier than what i pegged). But i think we are 3 years away from being a competitive team. there is a long road to go and it will be fun.
  3. I think Benning and crew will of course take a long look at Hutton this year. The won't waive him because he has value, but I believe he is in the last year of his contract so he is tradable but not much value. Hutton this year had bad season and last year as well he struggled at times - he finished last season playing well I thought. The problem with Hutton is he came in as a pucking moving offensive D and showed that in his first year. However, this part of his game has dropped. So what kind of D is he? Juolevi, Troy and Pouliot have probably moved past him on the depth chart for puck moving - none of those 3 are locks though. So as you point out his role has to be the physical game and playing well in our end. At times during the season Hutton's play in our zone was jaw dropping beer league play. Obviously, Green didnt like it either and to be a regular scratch in our D core is pretty revealing. The foot issue has really hurt him as well because right now guys are fighting for jobs for next year. To have Sautner come in and not look out of place (only 4 games) hurts Hutton even more.
  4. I think he might be. Plays a calm poised game in our end. I will be surprised if Hutton is on this team in the fall.
  5. SAN Jose was not sad to see goldy leave.
  6. you are all over the place.
  7. well then he will be an expensive 12th/13th guy because Joel in his 3rd year in NHL signed a 4 year 12 million deal as I am sure you know.
  8. The problem with your argument is it is hypothetical and cannot be proven one way or the other, and therefore it doesn't offer much. The other problem is exactly what is a 12th or 13rd forward? How would you define a 12th in terms of roles, time and points. If you are categorizing then surely you need to have valid descriptors? I don't think coaches or managers think in terms of well he is our 12th forward whatever that means? Why did you pick the the Joel Ward comparison? Is that what popped in head?
  9. I provided facts that show you he isn't a 4th liner - roles like pk, shutdown, and key defensive situations, the substantial amount of ice time he gets as a result, not to mention his points and the only 'data' you bring is kloubek thinks so, so it must be true. I haven't even bothered with your '4th line' mistake. Green, as most coaches say, they don't really think in terms 1st line, 2nd and so forth. Nor that a 4th line should be a energy line. It is a little more complicated than that. If you go by time played last night Gagner, Goldy and Reid were the 4th line.
  10. And I am saying you are wrong in calling him a 4th liner, which u just did again. He practiced on a line with Sutter and Jake today.
  11. some team will offer him a 2 year deal if he keeps up this play. He wont be bumped by anyone. He is big, can skate, hit and can score, and has learned to play a complete game. Guys like him are not just lying around to be picked up and tossed off. People call him a 4th liner, the problem with that is he is playing 3rd line shutdown with Sutter and doing very well at it.
  12. Archie has 5 points in 12 games, his minutes are easily third line material, he plays pk - get your facts straight.
  13. Volkov on Tryamkin's play this season : "After new year, he has been struggling. He had a good start to the season but since then his game has been so-so." Didn't make the all KHL olympic team which is something to think about. As someone above mentioned, his agent cannot say anything about coming back to the NHL - tampering. T will at some point because it is the best league in the world. However, will he be the top 2 guy he thought he should be last year. The best thing for him hockey wise would have been to stay here and further learn the game. The real question is not whether he is coming back but whether there is a top 4 spot for him down the road. Especially, if we win the draft which I expect us to do.
  14. Green said 3 to 4 to 6 weeks. And said you cannot really tell. So 4-6 is just his max. When asked if Brock could be back he said I am not going to go there. Not sure why people are saying he is done yet. If he was done the team would say done for the season like they did with Gran and Louis.
  15. Thank you, just my unconscious mind at work.
  16. Brock as we have seen is extremely tough. I am sure he hasn't closed the door on the season. If he can, he will be back.
  17. It is amazing how much people panicked about this like it was the worst hockey play they have ever seen. He's got was sounds like very painful bruising which could because of the body location take some time for him to get back to normal. As for the fracture, one can only speculate but non-displaced could mean just a slightly noticeable crack which years ago wouldn't have been even detected. I wouldn't rule out him skating in the next 2 weeks.
  18. No it didn't look like a potential separation or even career-ending injury.
  19. The Sedins will be back for another year - just look at Daniel right now. I am not saying this is a good or bad thing, but the evidence seems to say so. The canucks will of course never say no, so the can't return is a non-starter. My own preference would be to not have them back. But lets see who things go with this last 20. These last 20 games are going to give you a very good picture of who Van is going to keep or potentially move. This is a huge evaluation period which is not good for someone like Gaunce. Guys like Horvat, Boeser are for sure locks but everyone else should be thinking about their job. Motte and Lipper seem to understand that this is a grade A chance for them. This is going to be an exciting final games for us to see who is going to be on the team next year. Watching Lipper the other night you start thinking well if he can bring that then do we need Sven? As for Goldy everyone seems to know his problems (see Archie mic'd up) except him. I personally don't think you can teach a guy like Goldy to play well away from the puck and to have the work ethic to go and get it. I am skeptical of him - but would love to be wrong.
  20. For all you why won't Edler wave. See linden presser. Nothing serious was presented so we didn't talk to him says L. That is how it works people, even with a NTC. Edler is a top D and the return on him would have to be very substantial.
  21. When a player gets close to UFA there is always overpayment. This is a reasonable contract. 3 years and no NTC at 4 is okay. Guddy was in demand and for sure on the open market he would have gotten something similar. Toughness and intimidation are still a big part of the game, and Guddy brings protection to this team while playing regular minutes. Guys that like to run around have to for the next 3 years recognize that we got someone who will make you answer for it. There are not many guys in the league who are game to go Guddy.
  22. He said a few months back that going to UFA isn't necessarily the way to go and pointed out Russel (oilers) as an example of things not going well - remember?. I don't think there are many teams out there who would offer him that kind of money and term for what he brings. He seems to know that as well. For him i think what he wants is term and some kind of limited NTC rather than getting top dollar. I would be surprised if it is less than 4 years and for that reason I suspect probably right around the 4 mil mark and even a bit less if he gets a limited NTC. There is the louis Eriksson model of taking crazy money and then having to live with unrealistic expectations and criticism or the burrows model which was take less and always be considered a good value asset. From what I see with Guddy he is clearly a guy that doesnt want to be a overpaid guy. But in return as he as even said himself he wants stability which means term and some control over a trade. We love trade season but the players absolutely detest it and players will give up serious money to get it.
  23. it will be at least 4 years. And won't be 4.5.
  24. The only people on the roster who i would not trade regardless of the deal was Horvat and Boeser. D wise I would be advertising hard on Tanev and expect something substantial.
