no i don't want a 1d if we don't have a 1d i rather go with 4 strong D man and 2 filler rather than 2 strong 3 average and 1 filler which is what we have right now. regardless this is getting off topic. it started off as poolman at 2.5 x4 is too long for a guy that have proven nothing in the league and showed little to no offense. one of poolman/hamonic is going to be a bottom pairing defenseman that's 2.5mil-3mil for a #5D instead of pooling the cap to either sign a better top 4D or trade for one. -

sure u have OEL Hughes top 4 myer depending on teams could be argued he's not a top 4 but sure i'll give u he's a top 4. problem is none of them are legit top 2 none is a legit top 1 that can play the big defensive/offensive mins. OEL is probably the closest IF he can bounce back to form couple years ago. really shouldn't even be call top 4 should just be middle 2 coz none of them currently are legit 1st pairing defenseman that you would throw out against other teams top line in a do or die situation. we only throwing them out coz we have no other choice.. and again we like to over estimates every single one of our rookie.. rathbone is tredning to be a top 4 d man right now? chances are he's not even going to beat out Juolevi for the last spot assuming hamonic plays. he doesn't even have a spot on this team tbh. espeically with hughes re-signing. we don't need a bunch of offensive defensiveman on this team with questionable defense. but according to people here we have a great looking defense when it's a consensus around the league it's still very questionable at best. it's definitely have the potential to be much better than last year.. but still going to be relying on demko to stand on his head each and every night. -

sry i rather have a legit top pairing defenseman and a legit top 4 pairing rather than 3 average mediocre pairing. we already spent before on our bottom defense lol and it was trash jordie benn for 2mil? we waste money every year on the defense and it's still mediocre at best the lowest 2 player on the islander makes a combine less than what poolman makes i dunno what you are talking about.. mayfield at 1.4? dobson at 900k? our d group does not scare anyone OEL upgrades Edler sure that's fine. Poolman at its best is not an upgrade on schmidt at its best in anyway shape or form. If Schmidt struggled in our system Poolman could possibly struggled too. -

lol if he ends up as a 3rd pairing.. that 2.5 will be overspent to hell. most if not all contending teams are all paying 2mil and below for the bottom pairing defenseman and that's combined.. let's just assume hamonic had no issues and plays.. that means we will either have a 3mil or a 2.5mil bottom pairing defenseman... much better off getting a legit top 4 defenseman for 5mil than pay 2.5-3mil for one that's gonna play the bottom pairing. as for drafting.. in terms of 1st rounds.. we have 3 1st rounder that are legit nhler out of 8 seasons of floating near the bottom of the league.. maybe 4 but we won't know about podz for a while.. we didn't even have a 1st rounder the last 2 years.. 1 was for the miller trade which was good. and the other was to get rid of all his fail contracts. i stand by my opinion, his 1st round records is still pretty terrible considering his draft position.. and jettisioning McCann for another pylon. -

will poolman ever be better than a 2.5mil defenseman? prolly not? u don't see 2nd/3rd pairing defenseman with 0 offense ever get paid in this league. and i'm not even sure why burrow is mentioned.. who was wondering when he signed his deal? he came off of a 31 and 51 point season.. if anything he was well below market.. poolman on the otherhand is looking well above market along with a nice term for himself. when you have multiple top 6 picks that's flopped? sure juolevi might still pan out as a bottom pairing guy for a 5th overall? boeser at 23? what about aho at 35 then? what about cirelli at 72? he hit 2 2nd rounder out of how many 2nd rounders? and flopped hard on 2 top 6 picks? look at where our rebuild be at if he drafted decent nhler with the top 6 doesn't even need to be a home run. -

i think rays will sweep the yanks and setup a 3-4 way tie for wild card.. i think they prefer a 4 way tie so the teams will have to play 2 extra game before facing them thus screwed with their normal rotation -
i understand his daughter is immune compromise, but what does that have to do with him getting vaccinated or not? like does he think if he gets vaccinated he can somehow compromise his daughter's immune system or he's just anti vax if he indeed isn't vaccinated. his family lives in Manitoba, it's not like he gets to live and stay with his family during the regular season. the only time he could possibly spend time with them is during xmas and or olympic break? if that's the case can't he just take a personal leave and quarantine himself before going home to his family if he's worried about catching covid unknowingly and passing it to his daughter? if his daughter is sick and he's spending time with her it makes complete sense. but him wanting to be trade to a us based team points everything towards he's not vaccinated. otherwise why would he want to go to a us team when his family is in manitoba? i hope his daughter is all well and taken care of but right now this makes 0 sense on a lot of level.

the vaccine doesn't stop the transmission of covid nor prevent you from getting covid.. it just reduces ur symptoms and your chances of getting sick and or dying from it. you can still get covid even if you are fully vaccinated especially the variants
-
i don't see how this is a good thing. that means he won't be available for half the playoffs and we can't even spend his cap even if there's someone available to be picked up
-
so based on the numbers EP signed for.. seems the issue with the contract is more Benning than EP for dragging it out this long. i mean he's signing for barely more than barzal makes u wonder what he even offered EP in the beginning.. i doubt if he offered 7mil x3 right from the get go it would drag this long over 350k apart.

i'm guessing 3 years from now if EP continues to grow people are going to be bashing him to oblivion again if he doesn't take a contract for 8mil instead of 10 or 11 if he gets in that territory in terms of production and we'll have a thread every hr with trade proposal to dump him to buffalo if he dares to ask for more than he's making now. coz we can't build a winner if your star player is making too much regardless if he's worth it or not. until then enjoy the ride -

exactly that's like saying no one should sign for more than bure on the canucks when he signed for 4.9mil a season.. i mean he's the most skilled offensive player to ever put on a canucks jersey -

yes and no? when he does good i'll praise him when he does bad i'll bash him. his rfa signing is good. his ufa signing have been horrible (how many overpaid contract/buyouts have he signed) trades are 50/50. draft some good some out right horrible. but ya i don't like the length of the contract given to poolman. 2.5 i can live with 4 years is questionable.. so what if he doesnt' perform? we are stuck with a 2.5mil dman for 4 years? i would have preferred him spending on an actual top 4 defenseman ie combining hamonic and poolman salary and go with 2 1mil or less defenseman like a rathbone/juolevi and schenn combo.. i mean as it stands right now IF hamonic does play.. one of the 5 dman that we are paying over 2.5mil for will end up playing in a bottom 2 pairing role.. that to me is an overpayment. i rather go with 4 good defenseman and 2 bottom pairing guy than 2 good defenseman 3 average and a bottom pairing guy. -

lmao sedins took 10% of the salary cap each back when they signed.. if the rumor is true on what they are signing that's less than 10% so how is it they took more? like u know currency/market inflates? price for living inflates? just like everything else inflates? -

their star players are only UFA ie stamkos and hedman coz their team didn't force them into a bridge and gave them a fair market deal that took them straight to ufa. if EP or hughes signs a 8mil x 4 or 5 year contract you guys will be pitch forking benning for letting them go straight to ufa -

you can pay your star players and still win the cup. tampa this year is still gonna be the favorite even with 4 contracts between 7.8-9.5mil. the difference is they have value in their mid tier players where they are all performing or exceeding their value. tampa bay 3rd and 4th line forward cost a grand total of a little less than 6mil.. our 2 players on the 3rd line alone cost 6mil. let's just assume hamonic plays this year. our 6 defenseman is gonna be hughes oel hamonic myer poolman and rathbone/juoveli/schenn.. so technically 1 of the first 5 is considered to be the 3rd pairing.. let's just say poolman coz he's the cheapest.. we are pairing 2.5mil for a 3rd pairing defenseman. difference between contending teams.. they all still pay their stars.. but they rarely overpay on their bottom 6 bottom pairing defenseman/role players. while i'm not saying we should just spend 6mil on bottom 6 players.. but i don't think spending 10mil on ur bottom 6 makes much sense either.. nor spending like 3.5mil on ur bottom 2 pairing defenseman. -
teams can suspend players if they are unable to participate in team activity. he's subjected to 14 days mandatory quarantine hence he won't be availalbe for any practices or games unlike us based teams. so im pretty sure they can suspend him indefinitely since he wouldn't be able to participate in any team activity
-
why would they do that when they can just suspend him and get cap relief? and not pay him at all?

So, trades for our RFA's-what's realistic?
wai_lai416 replied to Got the Babych's topic in Canucks Talk
lol you'd be lucky to get 1 1st rounder for EP who's 100% won't stay past his 4year rfa in any team he's traded to coz no team that have the amount of cap space is a playoff contending team. and any of those teams that would trade for EP can just offer sheet him 1 year for under 10mil for 2 1st 2nd and a 3rd -

wai_lai416 replied to Got the Babych's topic in Canucks Talk
unless the team already got a committment from the player for a long term extension? probably not as much as you think.. since realistically the only teams that can afford them would not be a capped team/playoff team.. so they probably be rebuilding or still rebuilding.. and by the time they are ready to compete if the rfa leaves they just screwed themselves in the rebuild
