  1. i didn't think he was miles ahead of others and personally i don't even think he was ahead of hischier. it should have been more of a toss up between the 2 with 1st place votes going both way unlike the actual voting result. Bergeron won by default due to his name prestige and how good boston was. this is one where if Hischier won no one would be screaming bergeron got robbed of a selke.. but the voting result was so lobsided in bergeron's favor. it's one where if it was 50/50 split they picked bergeron as the easy pick
  2. Bergeron was a beast defensively but he was not miles ahead of everyone else like the voting suggested.. he plays significantly less minutes than all of his competitor 3mins+.. if anything Nico Hischier should have been a close second and gotten 30-40% of the 1st place votes and not an almost unanimous 1st place for bergeron.. he also wasn't leaned on as much defensively as his competitions and have significantly less defensive zone starts than others.. he's closer to 40% while everyone is over 50.. he's ranked almost in the bottom 2/3 on his own team. his entire team was so good defensively almost all their forwards are +20.. other players also seem to have a significantly higher takeaway numbers.. i dont have that big of an issue with him winning this year.. and if hischier won i wouldn't complain about it either.. but the voting should have been a lot closer than this lobsided win for bergeron.
  3. i think you underestimate the role Luongo had with the 06 canucks team and how he had to stand on his head the entire season. AV style prioritize defence sure but it's not like that team had a bunch of players that were good defensively.. and Luongo did it while dealing with the one of the toughest most exhausting travel and timezone or any team in the NHL missing only 6 games. the eastern teams literally plays all their conference game in the same timezone almost compared to teams in the west. Luongo based on the play and circumstances was the better goalie. was he heads and shoulder above brodeur? no.. heck i bet you the guy that gave him the 3rd place vote is someone from the east that didn't even watch him at all. if it comes down to a pickem 50/50 obviously they are going to pick the guy they watch more of and in that case the people from the east cause the game is more accessible to them due to timezone.. they might stay up the occasional night if it's a big matchup.. but other than that they are prolly going to just watch the scoreboards or highlights the next day which barely tells the story of the game.
  4. If you actually watch the game and not just I read stats. most of the shot against on the devils were from far out. Devils scoring chance against is miles ahead of the Canucks at that time and it wasn’t even close.. Marty was a great goalie and one of the greatest of all time but he also benefited greatly from the team structure and commitment to defence compared to the likes of hasek luongo and even Patrick Roy
  5. There’s a huge difference.. one is a 30 point guy.. the other haven’t even touched 30 and gotten worse and worse production wise started great 27 points.. then 18.. then 9 so I dunno how they are remotely the same
  6. lol he have way less points that boeser.. less hit less block double the giveaways.. heck even garland have more points albeit more games but far more impressive defensive stats than Hall and makes a million less.
  7. henrik and kesler both won because they were actually elite that year in their individual position. brodeur was great but it's not like he "carried" the team. swap luongo and brodeur that year.. Luongo prolly still accomplish the same thing with the devil.. Brodeur? doubt it with the canucks that season. Luongo accomplishment with that canucks team was simply more impressive than Brodeur and his play.. vezina goes to the league best goaltender easily luongo that year as he kept up step by step with Brodeur all the way to the end on a far defensively inferior team that wasn't suppose to make the playoff. also how about next time don't join into someone elses comment if u want to be a smart ass and go tell ppl to read from post before.. i'm just making a joke with a poster and you decides to jump in and i'm suppose to go back and read your post from before? even if he didn't get the 3rd place vote and got 1st place he still wouldn't have won it it'd be 16/15 to 15/16 again Brodeur played for a defensive juggernaut and the team that invented the neutral zone trap. Luongo had to stand on his head literally all 76 games of the season vs Brodeur having a much easier time thx to great team defence. NJ team defence>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Vancouver and it's not even close. as great as marty was that season Luongo was able to do the same with less.
  8. again you have to be exceptional and be heads and shoulder above others for western teams to win it's just how it is.. you have to be the clear favorite if u want to win.. if it's a toss up? it's likely going to the eastern team.. Kesler Henrik just happened to be playing for one of the best team in the league hence they get more focus.. coz u know president trophy winning team.. one of the highest scoring team 2 player in the top 5 in scoring.. jenning trophy winners etc etc etc.. no one said you can't win in the west.. you just have to be way better than the guy you are competing against.. just like the year luongo lost the vezina to brodeur they were nearly identical in everything minus 1 win in 2 less games played and it went to brodeur and really the voting wasn't even close.. Luongo that year easily better than brodeur.. not that brodeur wasn't great.. he was absolutely beast.. but he played one of if not the most defensive team in the league that was an annual cup contender vs luongo on a team that was expected to miss the playoffs that featured the great rory fitzpatrick lukas krajcek.. you dont think there's eastern bias?? someone gave him a 3rd place vote for crying out loud lol
  9. they sure as hell watch a lot more Marner than they'll ever watch of EP lol. they can easily flip thru the channels during their normal 7-10pm est to watch or catch glimpse of a player playing in the eastern time zone.. how many hockey writers you think will stay up at 10-1am every night to watch the western teams? probably not that many? and how many of them will watch a replay during the day? probably not that many? if advance stats is all they go by.. the OEL wouldn't be out of a job his advance stats is no where as bad as his play. Writers and voter in the west gets to watch basically all the east and west games.. vs writers in the east mostly watches the east games unless the western teams are playing in the eastern timezone for road trips.. otherwise all they have to go by is "highlight" lol i'm sure those highlights will be showing a defensive play or player blocking shots rather than showing goals. let say a hockey writer watches hockey from 7-11pm est every night in the east and watches every single game that's on between that time every night.. you think they'll see a player on a team that plays in the 7-11pm est range 80% of the time more or a team that plays less than 25% of the games in the eastern time zone more? it's simple fact the games are not on during the time they watch so they'll just rely on the highlights and the odd times they see them when they go thru the east.. they are not going to pvr or stream every game they miss just to see a player.. unless maybe if you are mcdavid.. even our own radio people rarely watches teams in the east
  10. lol u really think the media is going to stream thru a game out of their timezone to watch a player play? they might get a max of looking at a player less than 25% of the time a season maybe even less unless they are on a road trip or watch highlight.. they are going to stream thru 82 games to see if a player deserves a trophy? lol
  11. Doubt it you dont play in the east so you will have to be miles ahead of hischier or Marner to even have a chance
  12. Given the drafting record of the Canucks? It could very well be useless or we might have to wait till they are 23-25 before they are nhl ready lol. I don’t think anyone we draft this year or last year will be nhl ready regulars by 2025
  13. The cap grows for everyone too. If they are not planning for right now and 2-5 years when miller is 33 by the end of year 3? keeping miller makes even less sense. If they are banking on the cap going up then they can easily ride out the OEL contract or even have him as a very expensive 3rd pairing in the last 2 years before he’s gone. Every move they’ve made so far since taking over is a win now move
  14. If they are not planning for now and in 2-5 years then the OEL buy out makes even less sense. Because the biggest cap relief is this 2 years I think they are swinging for the fence and all in if they are planning for 2-5 years coulda just rode out the contract instead of slapping it for 8 years. I really don’t think JR cares much about the future of the team as he won’t be around much longer and wouldn’t give a f about if the Canucks fail they’ll be rebuilding another 10 years
  15. Bouchard will prolly be included in a deal if they go all in Ceci plays the right and I think ekholm can play both side
  16. man imagine edmonton can convince the shark + another team to each take 50% of karlsson's cap.. and just give them all their prospects/picks.. edmonton's PP will probably be at or over 50%.. edmonton's window is closing they might as well just push everything and say all in
  17. and what part of that is not true?? we are 14-21-2 in 2021 against playoff teams 15-19-8 last season against playoff teams 14-26-2 this season against playoff teams
  18. lol.. they were literally right in the playoff spot battle till they decide let's continue to rebuild and continue to sell off asset and turning it into futures.. at least they know their window to compete isn't now and continue building towards it. meanwhile us? we are treating each season like this is our window and every year falling face first into the mud.. look at our records in the last 3 seasons. we are sub .500 against teams that made the playoffs while being god likes against the lottery teams while maxed out to the cap every season spending 7 seasons haven't played a season of .500 hockey while rebuilding and spending no where near the cap amassing prospect sure is less embarassing than maxing the cap every season and missing the playoff every year except the year where we were saved by covid because we were on a massive losing streak/slump and free falling to the bottom. no team have spent more cap have less picks and prospect and missed the playoffs more than the canucks in the last 10 years. bertuzzi is an asset they weren't planning on re-signing. Hronek they sold ultra high on for a guy that have concussion history and traded while having a significant injury that he may or may not ever fully recover.. while he still have 2 years of RFA remaining.. regardless of how good or bad you think he is.. there should be some red flags.
  19. Lol love how you are listing a bunch of fringe nhl ahler Lind woo gadj gaud etc you might as well name every single player in the system coz they have potential to be a fringe nhler. Does it matter if other teams have top 3 top 5 picks over the period when they are rebuilding? So every other team players are loser and don’t want to win and are trying to help the tank?? Also pretty sure all of those teams were sellers every year at the trade deadline to amass as many picks as possible mean while Vancouver is never a seller and don’t know how to asset manage because they are delusional and don’t believe they are a rebuilding team year in year out. Not only is our drafting track record bad we have the fewest draft picks of teams that finish bottom 10 the last decade and the fewest 1st rounders. you can list all the fringe players you like doesn’t change the fact most if not all will likely not ever become a regular nhler and we still have the fewest nhl game played by draft picks in the last 10 years and fewest points produced. Detroit finished ahead of us and is trending in the right direction and they never have a top 3 picks. They might not have a EP or a QH but their prospect pool is pretty deep and their team is super young. At least they have a clear direction of what and where they are heading. calling someone a Homer is not a personal attack haven’t a personal bias is not a bad thing but some people take it to the extreme
  20. only way i would be interested in staal is if we can move a boeser or garland before july 1st.. likely won't happen so easy pass he'll prolly look for a short term but upwards of 6mil
  21. so u want to say our drafting have been decent? the teams that finished worse than us in the last 10 years with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 doesn't have a brighter future than us? our window to compete is wide open with JT miller going to be 31 by the end of next season? dont need to connect any dots just need to take off ur homerism glasses. you are all positive and no one is allowed to have any negative take.. all the media in the world is against the canucks.. any hockey insider that doesn't pump the canucks tire like they pump the leafs are trash horrible should be kicked out of the league.
  22. https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-ranking-decade-draft-results/ that's not the one i read from before that listed how many games played total from our draft picks and how many points total they produced since 2010 but iirc we are only ahead of the calgary flames we have 2 players.. 3 if u include demko we have the 6th worse win/lost records in the last 10 years.. pretty embarassing ya? the 5 teams that we were barely better than.. the only team that still suck is arizona.. buffalo and ottawa is on the cupse of playoff and are loaded in prospects and potential elite players. new jersey is already one of the best team in the league. detroit maybe in the same boat as vancouver but at least their direction is clear.. tank and stock up. Vancouver is at the point where some of their core players demko/miller only have couple of elite prime years left.. their window to compete is almost closed before it even opens.
