  1. meh not grumpy just the past 15 years of drafting have taught me not to have any hopes and expectation. I dunno if podz is on par.. I mean if u group up all the 10th overall in the last 10-13 years and average them out the high ends and the bust then ya he’s prolly in the middle. like I dunno how the scouts in Vancouver had a job for that long and no one ever tried to rectify the problem.. picking blindfolded prolly will have better success.. it’s prolly also partially the ahl development issue. We have no good position player outside the goalie came thru the ahl and have success. So maybe it’s not the picks we should just send the players to Europe to develop.
  2. honestly i don't care who they draft.. i expect based on the last 15 years of drafting we'll likely get a bust so i dont have high hopes and if it works out i'll be a bonus. lets just assume podz doesn't turn into a significant player we are batting .400 drafting in top 10 and prolly sub .100 anything outside of top 10 in terms of regulars that developed and played for the canucks and not other organization and even if we include the rare few we prolly still close to .100.. i mean the canucks have the fewest man game played and points from their draft picks in the last 15 years and it's not even close.. excluding seattle and vegas.. so they might as well ask maggie the monkey to draft coz she seemed to have higher success rate than our scouts
  3. i did watch him play in the late 80s and early 90s he was good but not great.. didn't exactly carry the team like some of the other hof goalie. he was amazing in 88 but outside of that he's just been good.. if he didn't have a cup to his name he'd never even get a sniff at hof with those stats. just like i don't think hellebuyck is hof worthy based on his current stats and honestly don't think he'll get in unless he wins a cup or gets into top 10 when he retires in any statistic category.. and i think hellebuyck is elite
  4. good. if the organization want to celebrate pride or whatever theme they want they can decorate the corridors or the arena with the appropriate theme invite the lgbqt group to sing the anthem do whatever, but people shouldn't be forced to wear whatever they are not comfortable with. they can change the center ice logo to rainbow for all i care and have rainbow logo on the pucks or whatever.. and if those that claims religion won't play with a rainbow color logo on the ice or the puck then that's on them.. they have issues.
  5. lol it doesn't matter what they have said vs what they are in reality. how are they a win now team if they lose hellebuck pld schief wheeler etc? where are they getting a vezina goalie back from? who's going to trade them back a scheifele? chevy will be fired and never hired again if he thinks he can "all in" and win now by losing those players and setting the team back for decades.. theyd be smart to get some up and coming top prospect and 3-5 1st rounders out of those 3 kick start their retool/rebuild and not risk going into a rebuild for 10 years. Miller doesn't move the needle for winnipeg.. they are not a playoff team without those 3-4 players and Miller wouldn't change that.. they are barely a fringe playoff team with those guys lol.. win now team funny.. they are not even close to being a contender as is without trading any of those guys. every year the canucks said they want to make the playoff too? and every year we flame out before the season is 25% done? what they say and what they end up doing is 2 different thing
  6. i mean era adjusted advance stats also shows vernon have a negative gsaa in the regular season and the playoff. vernon is an average goalie that had great team success and was clutch at times when he needed to be. he was below average in gsaa in 10+ seasons and 4 of the 5 seasons he finished top 10 in vezina. basically he benefitted from playing behind teams that gives up very few shots and scoring chances. i have nothing against vernon but he is at best a very very fringe hof that got in based on team success and not individual stats or accomplishment. if you cover the name and toss me all those stats and doesn't show what he has won i don't even think he gets a single vote in the hof
  7. i'm not totally against vernon in the HoF just his sv% really stands out as very avg at best..and hard to see some of these borderline guys get in while guys like Almo who's prolly a sure fire HOFer if he was a canadian or american continue to get snub year in year out for unknown reasons. if they have a strong class of inductees and snub mogliny i can live with that.. but man this class is sooooooooo weak and they snub the guy again.. this isn't like the baseball hof where chilling for political reason others for PED reasons.. i don't think almo fits in any of those category.
  8. i look at sv% as a whole and comparing him to goalies every year.. he's rarely even in the top 10s in sv% he was clutch at times and gotten a lot of wins during that period but i gotta say it's a by product of being on a good team. in no particular order and prolly different time periods between 1986-97 i prolly have belfor roy ritcher hasek vanbisesbrouck fuhr moog and prolly a few more others prolly better imo. wins and gaa for me doesn't mean as much as sv% for me sv% is more important as it shows how much of the pucks you actually stop and vernon's sv% is rarely in the top 10s
  9. top 10 goalies in the 90s is all u need to be in the hall of fame?? he's a good goalie but not really hall of fame worthy. i don't think cujo is hall of fame worthy either. while stanley cups are not the only criteria.. but to be hall of fame worthy i think u need to be at least top 5 consistently for a decent stretch of time and vernon definitely don't fit that bill
  10. lol we have assets?? the best asset we have is raty and maybe silov.. everyone else is just cdc pumping their tires thru the roof.. i mean hirose had a couple of good games in garbage time and all of a sudden he's being penciled in as a full time nhler now. Miller is a win now player lol.. Winnipeg is a win now team? miller maybe have 3-4 good years left at best.. you think Winnipeg is going to be able to replace 3-4 high end elite player just like that so they can afford to take Miller for what is a win now move?
  11. lol give it up he ain't coming here. even if he does want to sign in vancouver we don't have the player nor asset to swing the deal. they are losing their goalie and prolly schiefele.. they are looking to possibly buy out wheeler.. and they'll lose PLD.. they'll either target players in the mid 20s with terms + draft capital to "retool" there's literally no players the jets can get enough of to make them even have a chance at the playoff. 100% looking for young established nhler with team control or terms + lots of draft capital/prospect.. we have 0 of any of the above and almost no chance they even remotely think about miller.. well possible if the rest of them didn't request a trade too but current situation? impossible
  12. lol if mike vernon is a hall of famer.. i'm guessing binnington and adin hill should be a hall of famer one day too.. what a joke.
  13. Detroit is not that bad of a team they were in the playoff race the entire season until StevieY decided to pull the plug coz it wasn’t worth it trying to make the playoff. I’m not gonna complain about whether he’ll be good or bad it’s water under the bridge doesn’t matter what we think. But whether or not we’ll see the hronek from last season in Detroit or the hronek we see in previous years will all depend what PA does with the defence and if he’s able to get him a partner. Easier said than done
  14. Lol whatever u say they were still a positive team while hronek was injured they fell apart after trading everyone
  15. hmm detroit finished -38 coz they sold off at the tdl. they were actually a + team prior to hronek injury and then trading off most of their expiring contracts. they were like -30 since mar 1st.. so he's more like a +8 on a team with a positive goals differential at the time.. not a +8 on a team that finished -38. if we are just looking at just last 2 season when seider joined the team then no he didn't play the most. he did do better this year defensively when seider struggled and over took him as the 1st pair for a bit.. but he wasn't great defensively in every year prior.. he's avg at best defensively and require a stay at home defensive defenceman to compliment him and again we don't have that either.
  16. Miller is going no where.. they wouldn’t buy out OEL just to trade miller.. if they even thought about trading miller then OEL buyout never would have happened. Whether or not he will live up to his contract? I say no just because part of his game is he likes to skate around with the puck and he’ll prolly lose his speed first. Look at the drop off of oreilly and such. There’s always exceptions but it’s never the Canucks. And usually those exceptions are future hall of famers.. miller is no where near one of those
  17. myers is not going anywhere till mid september if he's traded at all.. u can't pay his bonus early and no team is going to touch him with the bonus still in play.. and depending on how ufa go and whether we can move a winger or not.. myers will likely remain in a canucks uniform coz we don't have players on the defence.. as of right now.. he's prolly our 3rd best defenceman.. kinda scary.. there's not much ufa defenceman available.. and those that are available will probably end up goign higher than they are suppose to coz there will be a bidding war due to lack of defenceman.. and likely the trade market for one would be expensive also.
  18. lol hronek had a concussion and a few suspicous head shots that may or may not resulted in concussion and we still took him in with open arms and traded massive to get.. and now we complain about byrams concussion history? it doesn't matter how many concussion u had once u have 1 you are just as susceptible to having another as the guy that had more than 1.. i don't see anyone complaining about hronek's concussion?
  19. He’s not bad in terms of willing to spend etc, but he needs to hopefully stay out of making suggestions or decision and let the people he hired do their job. He can tell them what direction they want to go and leave it at that. He really shouldn’t have say or suggest anything about what coach to hire what player to draft etc. if he wants to do that? He might as well join the team at the front office and be like a jerry jones gm/owner but actually gain some experience first. He makes far too many input/decisions that’s beyond his role as an owner or at least there’s too many reports regarding that.
  20. Again I don’t disagree he didn’t look good last season but I would have liked to see what he could do when healthy and playing a role that’s suited for his game play and not so defensive shutdown guy when that’s clearly not his game. He have one of if not the highest defensive zone start on the team in defence the last 2 season that’s not his game
  21. Look up his metric is Arizona to see he’s bad? So how did he some how managed to look ok in Vancouver in his first year and he actually looked great when Hughes went down and OEL took his role while he was healthy? let’s stick Hughes with Myers for a year and let see how good Hughes look. OEL is a miscast in Vancouver. He was never a defensive shutdown defenceman yet he’s pretty much cast into that role in Vancouver. He have 10% higher defensive zone starts in Vancouver than he did his entire career in Arizona. OEL have always been average at best defensively but a very good puck moving defenceman at getting the puck up the ice and producing offensively. In Vancouver he’s thrust into a role that was never part of his game. 60% defensive zone start along with Myers lol OEL have been a -10 to -20 player his entire career in Arizona pretty much not sure why people are expecting him to be the great defensive shutdown guy that can go against other teams top lines.. especially with Myers lol. with the right team and the right fit he will not be great be still be effective. buying him out is still a dumb move as it only benefits year 1 and 2 when this team is still light years away from being a contender and 0 benefit from year 3-8 OEL haven’t been great and looked bad last season I don’t dispute that. But playing him in a 3rd pairing role and not buying him out would have been a much better option than spending 7mil with this cap saving eating up another 4.8 in year 2 and 3 and then signing a 1-1.5 mil 3rd pairing. I much rather sign a 6 or 7 mil top 4 in year 3 and 4 and then have OEL as a 3rd pair you have to be an absolute hater of OEL which some of you are to say he’s worse than replacement ahler. his goals against is actually way higher than his xga because our goalies can’t stop a beach ball the first 3 quarters of the season. Their sv% was in the .850 range when he was on the ice which is not even ahl level.
  22. No not really even if he doesn’t turn it around he’s still way better option than any 3rd pairing defenceman out there. Having him as a 3rd pair and then using what would have been his cap penalty in year 3 and 4 for another defenceman is way better than having equivalent of 12 mil committed to 1 player assuming they use up all his cap on a defenseman which is very likely considering how our defence look. Again OEL main partner last season is the guy you guys all are screaming crying whining and b*tching about every single day for the last 3 years in Myers. Ever consider Myers plays a big role in why OEL looks so bad? Or are you going to say well defensive partners shouldn’t affect how a player look? Coz if I recall a lot of you were calling Hughes trash and ready to trade him after his 2nd season because he doesn’t have a partner that compatible? let say we commit the 6-7 mil on a defenceman now to replace OEL add the 4.8mil cap hit then on top of that we need to add the cost of whatever 3rd pairing defenceman they get anywhere from 800k could be up to 2mil. Which would end up 13-14mil cap taken up. For the players and cap penalty. Pretty sure I’ll be happier with OEL as a bottom pair and use the equivalent of 6-7mil on a defenceman or multiple defenceman or other parts of the team. Those that are so happy with the OEL trade is so short sighted and don’t look past just the cap saving. You can hate on OEL all u want but he’s definitely way better than any 1-1.5mil players on the 3rd pairing and age decline? Oh so why do we still have miller? He’ll be 33-34 too in year 3 and 4 of the cap penalty and we are paying him 9% of the teams cap? And he’s not even thru the first half of his contract by then?
  23. you dont look at the big picture.. in year 3 and 4 which is probably when the team is going to be competitive if they are ever going to be competitive the cap penalty is 4.8mil. the canucks are more than likely going to spend every penny of this cap saving the 7mil this year on a replacement top 4 D.. the 7mil they spend this year.. + the cap penalty in year 3 and 4 essentially we spent 12mil on 1 player. if we didn't buy out OEL.. and then add a 4.8mil defenceman in year 3 and 4 where we are supposively competitive.. even if we have to use OEL as a 3rd pairing guy exclusively.. the defence would be much more competitive than whatever we add this year.. and OEL's cap would be completely off the book or if we are lucky OEL might be on LTIR his final season or 2 which is very possible too. u can hate all you want on OEL as really his advance stats is not as bad as his stats looked thx to atrocious goaltending the entire season. dumb short sighted move with the goal of making the playoff this year without looking at our actual window which is prolly year 3-5 Hughes ??? (4.8mil player) Hronek OEL minimum player or Hughes ??? (6-7mil replacement for OEL) Hronek 2 minimum bottom 6
  24. Miller I don’t see us moving.. this OEL buyout is an all in move. If they trade miller then they wouldn’t have to buy out oel so I don’t see miller going anywhere. I would agree with u with regards to garland if moved would have to be money in money out and likely to a team that would have trouble signing free agents. But it would likely be a player with maybe 1 or 2 years left and very likely a player that’s useless or have no trade value. I don’t see Winnipeg biting for garland. They prolly going to see what they get for their core players first since almost all of them are likely to be traded they might just go into a full rebuild I don’t see how they can retool with basically just ehler and lowry left on the team.
