  1. i still don't think anyone will make a trade for garland or boeser regardless of the cap issue. they both eat up too much cap space and neither are players that would move the needle.. the contenders don't have space for them and they'd at best be a a luxury depth on those teams, and the fringe teams again they eat up too much space and not a difference maker to say change them from a fringe team to a contender.. this is the easy shortcut way of "getting out" of cap trouble but i still think it's short sighted and aimed at short term success.. they are guaranteed to spend the cap saving and there's a chance they might go big on another top 4 defenceman that might already eat up all the cap saving if not more. coz as of right now the canucks defensive is atrocious with bear out.. myers is prolly the 3rd best defenceman.. so let say they spend 6-7 mil on another top 4 defenceman.. add the cap penalty of almost 5mil in year 3 and 4.. that's basically 11-12mil spent in the 2 year likely to be peak EP/QH/Hronek and tail end of demko/miller if they haven't already fallen off.. year 3 and 4 is likely the peak competitive window for this core and we are playing with a massive handicap. FA prolly wrote the cheque because he wants to make the playoff at all cost even if we ain't going to be a contender.. being just "good enough" and competitive enough to sneak into the playoff prolly sells more ticket + playoff revenue will make him more money than paying the OEL buyout
  2. lol.. it's already clear nobody wants garland or boeser on their contract.. or they wouldn't go to plan C and buy out OEL.. ya we no longer "have to trade" to get under the cap.. but at the same time we "have to trade" so we can better utilize our cap.. garland boeser beauviller none of them are suited to play in a bottom 6 role.. they are pretty much useless outside of a top 6 winger spot and there's only maybe 2 spots available.. add in podkolzin and hoglanders if they are going to stick in the NHL will have to be in a top 6 role.. mikahyev kuzmenko is pretty much locked in and likely playing with EP.. so literally there's only 2 spots for 5 ppl to compete.. podz maybe can play in a 3rd line role.. but hoglander definitely not.. at the end of the day i'm willing to bet most of the team inquiring about garland or whomever is not asking what do you want for them.. they are probably calling to see what are you willing to give for us to take them. there's plenty of teams looking to shed cap or move a player that doesn't fit their team.. and there's probably plenty of better options than boeser garland or beauviller.. none of these players will move the needle for any team..
  3. lol this is such a short sighted moves.. buying out OEL means they are going all in next season.. now we are prolly going to mortgage the future for another replacement.. the 1st this year and prolly last years pick is probably in play at the draft.. and if it fails we dont make the playoff, there's no fall back plan or hope for this team and we probably get to go thru another 10+ years worth of rebuild. buying out OEL makes EP wanting to re-sign even more?? he's prolly looking at it in year 3 and 4 when he's in the meat of his prime the team just handicapped themselves so badly vs other teams.. not only do we have to compete with low tax states.. now we complete with low tax states and a self imposed almost 5mil cap penalty lol.
  4. Winning record in Vancouver lmao I sure hope he has a winning record with that lineup playing lottery team in 70% of the games rutherford really didn’t do much in Pittsburgh.. a prime Crosby and Malkin have more to do with the cup than anything JR have done. He pretty much did what Gillis done except it worked for them.. Rutherford is one of the oldest dinosaur in the league along with Lou that should have retired already
  5. Lol the issue is the Canucks are going to spend to the cap with the “saving”.. you bet ur ass they are going to spend the 6mil and the extra 1mil next season.. unless they sign the player to just a 1 or 2 year deal.. it all of a sudden going to add up to spending almost 12 mil in year 3 and 4 lol so instead of being stuck with OEL for 7.2 in year 3 and 4 and be done with it.. we are going to be stuck with someone equivalent eating up 12mil in cap
  6. According to a report from The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, Dubois has made it clear to the Jets that he will not be signing any sort of contract and would prefer to be moved elsewhere. I would assume that includes QO? So pretty much trade me or I’ll sit out?
  7. Yea they need more top 6 but I think buffalo have a lot more to offer. They are hot on his trail and already inquired. I don’t think we will remotely come close to matching whatever buffalo can offer. Unless pesce say f it I don’t want to sign in buffalo. seems like Carolina will trade any of their players this summer if they can’t get them to sign.. Sebastian Aho might be the biggest fish out there this summer. Screw PLD
  8. Brett pesce reportedly available if he doesn’t sign extension this summer. Age wise I’m not so sure as he will prolly be pushing 30 before we actually compete and who knows how much he’ll be looking for. We will have the cap space for his extension and we can prolly fit him in with all our ltir and hopefully move out a contract or 2. Although I don’t think we have anything remotely close to what Carolina wants.
  9. we'll compete with them when they start competing for the lottery.. just saw an article the canucks are the worse drafting team ever in the salary cap era in terms of producing NHL players and production.. and it's not even close.... fewest players to make the NHL.. fewest games played.. fewest points produced by a country mile.. until a mangement group any management group shows that they are capable of drafting nhl caliber talent out side of maybe a top 10 pick which is not even guaranteed with this franchise.. we'd be competing with fringe teams only..
  10. so so team or not this guy still have 1 year of RFA left instead of saying like he'll play out his 1 year QO he straight up said nope don't care i ain't signing anything QO or not i refuse to play for your team. didn't this guy hold out on signing a contract in columbus too and just signed before the deadline in december? and then requested a trade as soon as he got his money? he's a good player ther's no doubting that.. but this guy have 0 loyalty to anyone except himself.. if he doesn't like the coach? trade me i don't care if i have a contract. and he's going to want a NMC which is even bigger red flags.. for when he wants out again.. kinda like kesler when he said i only wanted to go to this team lol.. he also coulda made that trade request last year.. so the team have more time to deal with it.. instead of in the middle of may giving the team less than 1.5months to get a deal before having to do the QO handcuffing the team even more. not the type of personality i want on a team.. a me first guy.
  11. meh even if we taken MT i doubt he makes a difference in our standing with our line up those years. we prolly still end up with EP and likely QH since EP didn't come over till after QH was drafted and MT prolly wouldn't explode coz he doesn't have a JG or lindholm or whoever else they had on the flames.
  12. meh even if we taken MT i doubt he makes a difference in our standing with our line up those years. we prolly still end up with EP and likely QH since EP didn't come over till after QH was drafted and MT prolly wouldn't explode coz he doesn't have a JG or lindholm or whoever else they had on the flames.
  13. if he comes cheap? why not? he's 6th D at best? but on the canucks he's like the 2nd or 3rd best D all of last season and a stable partner for hughes.. it's all about the fit.. just like Hughes he looked good with tanev.. than looked lost the next season without him then looked good again with schenn.. is schenn a top pairing defenceman? no but he's a great complimentary partner to Hughes that allows him to do what he does and not get burned for it.
  14. sure but at that time glass vilardi and pettersson was technically same tier at that time and EP continued to grow while the other 2 didnt. MT was like A tier vs everything else left on the board which was a B tier.
  15. why are u keep referring to scenario where we are under the cap etc.. i'm talking about if we are over the cap to start the season which is very likely to happen if management decides to spend on july 1st to get what they need. if we are at 84.5mil and the cap is 83.5mil we'll get 1mil cap relief regardless of how many players we stick on LTIR which is what i'm referring to.
  16. ok so please explain why if we are over the cap by 3mil and place a 4mil player we only get 3mil cap relief while adding a boeser later on we'd get the full 6.75?
  17. yes because we were at or under the cap to start the season. but right now we are not. the point we are arguing is you don't gain additional LTIR room if you start the season OVER the cap. if say we are at 84.1mil placing the LTIR players on ltir after the season started.. we'll stlil only be at 84.1mil total cap space. say another players get injured and go on LTIR it'll still remain at 84.1mil. if adding boeser to the LTIR later on would add 6.65mil cap to the LTIR.. then why wouldn't we get more than the 600k LTIR relief for being over the cap to begin the season? sure we can move a player here and there to get cap compliant as suggested but point is we can't spend the ltir till after the season begins if we are staying status quo.
  18. if that is just to maximize ltir like u claim.. then we can just spend right up to 5.75mil over the cap and have 5.75mil LTIR who needs to get cap compliant on day 1 zzz you don't know what you are talking about or maybe we both dont know what we are talking about.
  19. ya IF we are compliant which is not what we are talking about?? you are talking about having the 5mil we have from the "LTIR" players to spend? aka putting us at say 89mil to start the season?? so how are we "compliant" without moving at least a myer? do you think it's just as easy to move myer if we are at 89mil panicing to be cap compliant?? or would it be easier to move myer if we are at 83mil and compliant? which is the whole point teams will be asking for more than what they normally would if they see you over the cap and struggling vs if we are under the cap and not necessary have to make that move.. spending the "LTIR" money before you move out cap is the dumbest move this management can make
  20. If a team cannot be cap compliant on opening day without using LTIR, the LTIR Pool is the amount the team exceeds the Cap. For example, if a team is $3M over the Cap and places a player on LTIR with a $4M Cap Hit for the opening roster submission, the LTIR Pool is the $3M that the team exceeded the cap Not really that hard to comprehend? you can keep adding players to LTIR and u still only get 3mil
  21. if say we are over the cap by 5mil to start the season your LTIR cap is only going to be 5mil even if u stick 6mil worth of LTIR on it. even if you add 6.65 of boeser it's still going to be 5mil. that's why it's important to get under the cap before the start of the season. your LTIR pool can not be more than what you are over the cap by. we only get 12.4m worth of cap if we started the season under the cap.. otherwise we only have a max LTIR pool of whatever we are over by to start the season and say in this case 5mil we will have a max cap of ~89mil including the LTIR players. and if boeser gets injured too bad our max cap hit is still 89mil. we dont gain additional LTIR pool until we get under the cap.. LTIR doesn't work like just adding extra LTIR to the pool if we get injured player if you are over the cap to start the season.. whatever you are over the cap by to start the season will be your max LTIR bonus pool until u get under the cap. and say if we don't sign any player and this is our opening day roster and then toss pearson and poolman on LTIR.. our LTIR pool is 600k lol.
  22. we have 5m of LTIR players sure. but let's just say we dont do anything right now and go status quo till the start of the season. we have 5mil worth of ltir 5.75 - whatever we are over by.. and say we lose a player to ltir after the season start like a ep boeser or whatever.. they'll get 0 ltir relief as our ltir is capped at 5mil.. and let say they spent all the 5mil worth of ltir in the summer.. and we lose a player.. we wont even have any cap space to bring in a minimum cap player to replace say a 6-7mil player because we started the season over.
  23. too bad we are in no position to proach any teams cap casualty lol
  24. so how are we suppose to get a top 4 defenceman and a 3rd line center without doing #3?? or do you propose we go over the cap some more so we can handicap ourself further? we basically can't do anything until we move cap out we do not want to be in LTIR overage before the season starts as it messes with the LTIR for the rest of the season.. if we are over the cap by 3mil to start the season.. literally doesn't matter how many player we stick on LTIR or how big their cap hit is.. we can't get more than 3mil of LTIR pool total.. and if we do 1 or 2?? before 3?? it puts us even further into cap hell and what team out there will gladly take any of the players u want to move for cap reason without asking for a sweetener?.. we have 0 players that we want to move other teams would gladly take off our hands for free to begin with and makes it even tougher if we go do 1 and 2 before 3
