i'll say last year gave the team false illusion that they are ready for the playoff.. we got a good chunk of our points in the early half of the season and the 2nd half where injuries and stuff also derailed the team.. but then again.. in the first half of the season.. the bottom half of the playoff teams played like crap.. Colorado was having coaching issues with mckinnon and their coach.. St louis was the last place team in the league etc etc etc so we prolly also gotten a bunch of points that under normal circumstances we might not have gotten.. the team for sure gotten better.. but to say this is definitely a playoff team and the rebuild is over.. let's wait till the end of the season before we come to a conclusion. teams that are still well above us on paper Calgary Vegas teams that should still be above us San Jose teams that we'll be competing for 4th in the pacific Arizona Edmonton We can say what we want about San Jose and Vegas losing some players..but they both have plenty of depth and still have their top end talents. McDavid is McDavid.. he'll try to do anything to carry the team on his back into a playoff spot.. and Arizona finished above us last year and added Kessel for galcheyuk. so we'll see if we closed the gap to Arizona.

what top end UFA are we talking about here?? i don't recall canucks signing any top end UFA ever in the last 25 years since i follow the team?? Messier?? Sundin?? the 2 where we overpaid to the moon for? Loui Eriksson is prolly the biggest name we have signed in recent years lol.. everything else we have signed including this year is hardly a top end UFA.. unless you are talking about best available.. myer ferland benn hardly considered a top end player lol -

What normal arguments would you like? We have gone over the fact hes slow, he cant score, and his contract is even worse than Eriksson, but you guys think he can still play and will be revitalized in Vancouver. If he cant even play with McDavid arguable the best player in the world and one of the best playmaker not sure why you guys think all of a sudden he will be reborn in Vancouver. You guys are saying well even if he cant score he can hit and stuff.. so you are paying 6 mil for a guy just to be a defensive liability but can hit? Hes too slow to be a threat offensively and hes too slow to get back defensively. I'd rather bury Eriksson and take the 1mil cap saving if we cant trade him then take on someone that have the potential of being even worse with a worse contact for an extra year. Bringing in lucic you pretty much forced to put him in a top 6 role else he have no where to play hes not shutdown guy and you ain't paying him 6 mil to be a 4th line checker. At least LE can play up and down the line. -

lol.. you can only protect 1 goalie and 8 players.. and you want to waste a protect on lucic hughes, boeser, pettersson, horvat, JT Miller, Myer, Ferland, (lucic) demko so we going to expose Gaudette, Virtanen, markstrom assuming he's re-signed and whoever else on the roster for lucic? -

nm i mis read its 5mil right now but regardless still not enough for boeser and goldobin unless we move someone. atm we have a lot of dead cap space and not enough spots to play we have 10 wingers signed and 2 more in goldobin and boeser.. something gotta move and most of them are dead weight. we have schaller eriksson and sutter making over 12mil.. and really there's no where on the roster for them now. schaller i can see we'll just eat the last year of their contract.. but what are they going to do with eriksson and sutter? Gaudette showed he can replace sutter.. and if sutter's not going to be the3rd line center where's he going to play? -

with the signing of ferland. the canucks have a little less than 2mil left in cap space.. even sending down the players to the AHL still won't be enough cap to sign boeser and goldobin. sure we can move rousell to the LTIR.. but we still need that cap space for when he comes back.. so it's not like it's free cap space. now that team knowing we are up against the cap no one would be taking Eriksson without a big sweetener.. if toronto have to move Marleau with 1 year for a 1st.. i don't see how Eriksson can go for less than a 1st without retention or a 50% retention with a good prospect and or pick. coz as it stands right now we won't have enough to sign boeser and goldobin let say boeser wants somewhere in 6.5-7.5 and goldobin is 1.5-2 -

Pretty sure if he terminates the contract he wouldn't be able to play in the NHL again unless the league reinstate him like kovalchuk -

i dunno i have a feeling that teams don't pay the full amount for players on LTIR.. i would think there's some sort of insurance that would be paid for players on LTIR. if that's the case there's no way in hell Ottawa would trade them -

so what team is willing to take on 8mil worth of salary for a 1 year rental that's not at the cap floor? lol anyone taking on tanev and eriksson is not a rebuilding team.. and are already at or near the cap lol -
[Report] Vegas looking to trade Nikita Gusev
wai_lai416 replied to Canucks_fo_life's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
lol i can also see Benning fired before Eriksson getting sent to the AHL. Aqualini is not in the business to lose money. he already paid 3mil to play in the AHL last year.. he ain't gonna pay 6mil for eriksson to play in the AHL. yes it's only 3mil but he already paid the bonus so technically that's still 6mil he paying/paid. plus the spooner buy out etc etc. Benning is cutting into Aqualini's profit and there's no way in hell i can see him ok with paying eriksson salary to play in the AHL. -
lol anyone can see it coming for kovalchuk.. he's 34+ now 36+ obviously he's gonna regress in the NHL.. and based on everything you have said about the KHL most if not all are a bust in the NHL.. by that logic i guess we shouldn't try to get Tryamkin to come back to Vancouver coz there's a good chance he'll be a bust. bringing Tryamkin back will not be cheap he ain't coming back for 1mil to leave home. and 4+ mil is a risk/gamble. same with Podkolzin we should do everything we can to get him out of russia coz even if he dominates there doesn't mean anything in the NHL
-
Way too much what if.. if its couple I say sure. We are talking about 1. Pettersson needs to be as good if not better than he was during the 1st half 2. Boeser continues to score and be a 30+ goal scorer 3. Miller will work out 100% 4. Virtanen all of a sudden becomes a legit nhl player with around 20 goals 5. Defense all of a sudden start scoring way more than it did in previous season 6. Markstrom continue his 2nd half vezina like form 7. Defense supposively gotten way better since most of you rank myer the worse defensive defenseman we have maybe even worse than Hutton. 8. Everyone stays healthy 9. Everyone in the west sucks

how do you develop a power forward if the said player refuses to play like a powerforward? he doesnt' like to hit or be hit, he doesn't like to drive to the net, he doesn't like to stand in front of the net.. it's not a matter of unable to develop a power forward.. it's how do you develop a power forward when the player plays like he's a sniper?

or you could just ignore what i post? it works both way ya? of the 31 teams in the NHL why use edmonton as an example then if you are not implying we should get Eriksson to Edmonton cause he's a good fit? -

Again you shouldn't use Edmonton as an example then coz sure he might work in Edmonton but he ain't going there unless lucic is coming back as they cant afford it -

Again enough with Edmonton already. The only way he goes to Edmonton is lucic coming back. This team doesn't need lucic and his $1million per goal salary. At the very least Ericsson is probably still tradeable at 50% retention without giving up too much. No one is going to take lucic off your hand even if you retain 50% of his salary unless you are throwing in 1st round picks. Lucic was good in his first year.. then he started declining the 2nd and gotten even worse in his 3rd. At the rate hes trending in.. you'd be lucky to get 5 goals out of him. -

Bad contract for a worse contract just for the sake of getting rid of Ericsson. Like some of the ppl here are delusional thinking lucic would do better in Vancouver. Paying 6 mil to a guy for 10 points for 4 years instead of 3. -
i would still put barrie in top 2. definitely not the #1 defenseman on any team but his offensive capability makes up for his defensive lapses kinda like a Karlsson. Barrie is probably one of the best offensive defenseman out there, and if he cleans up his defense.. then all of a sudden we are talking about a norris caliber defenseman which i don't think he is.

wai_lai416 replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Right let's trade all the players that's coming off.the book in a year or 2 and sign more players for 4-5 years so that we cant afford to sign pettersson and Hughes so smart. -
Why does everyone just assume oh we can get this guy for free that guy for free if we wait till they hit ufa? The only big name ufa to hit the free agency are people that didnt want to be on that team ie panarin Bob and duchene. Not many top pairing defenceman ever changed address thru free agency in the last God knows how many years. I dont even remember the last time a top 2 defense ended up on free agency. And yes Barrie is viewed as a top 2 defenseman due to his offensive ability. If anything Toronto will find the cap space to keep Barrie. Muzzin is coming off the books next year and they'll likely have traded nylander by then. Unless Barrie doesnt want to be in Toronto on a possible contender hes staying there.
