Is the Current Canuck Defence Playoff Team Quality? (My Analysis)
wai_lai416 replied to JamesB's topic in Canucks Talk
it's not even hindsight Tkachuck to any other player still available was a massive drop off.. it's pretty much concensus at the time.. if MT doesn't want to play in vancouver? trade the pick or trade the rights? i'm sure there's there's 30 other teams willing to move up to take MT if available and made a reach with juolevi and chances are he'll still be available at 10+ if they are so dead set on him. it's bad asset management in every way.. MT doesn't want to play in Vancouver and u think he loved to play in calgary? -

Juolevi is BPA with Tkachuk on the board?? even if Tkachuk doesn't want to play in vancouver.. you either draft him and trade his rights to a team that wants him or trade down to a team that wants him for a kings ransom.. the drop off from tkachuk to Juolevi is so big it's not even close at the time of the draft. -
[Report/Rumour] Elias Pettersson Contract Talks

matthews current contract that's set to expire is somewhat of a closer comparable.. if matthew ends up at 13 13.5mil which is very realistic.. it can be a ballpark figure for EP.. obviously he won't get 13 13.5mil.. but is matthew 2-3mil better than EP?? Can matthews hit those numbers without a 10million+ playmaking winger? if EP have a playmaking winger like a marner what kind of number stat wise can he hit? so far in his tenure.. i don't think there's another player on this team that played with more different linemates than EP and i don't think it's even close.. and other than that 1 season with Miller.. i don't think we can legitimately say EP have played with any elite linemates.. 95% of them are average to just good enough.. the 5% being Miller and maybe Kuz but i don't think hes at the elite level yet.. so really we don't know what EP is actually capable of if put together with a legitimate winger that compliments him.. like marner to matthew.. draisital to mcdavid mackinnon to rantanen etc.. -

Based on how previous negotiation I won’t even be surprise if our gm have the balls to use miller as a comparable and start with 8mil lol i rather them just start with 9.5 and work their way eventually to 10.5 rather than start at 9 take their sweet ass time counter with 9.25 9.5 and then next thing u know season started contract extension on hold another disaster season. EP ask to leave already missed out on this years draft with multiple franchise players on the board and then having to rebuild after trading for hronek and not moving miller. -

nope can't even consider because you have Miller signed.. and unless the columbus wants to be the new Toronto Maple Laffs.. 6 players eating up almost 55% of the cap? -

i disagree barzal is the lowest of low comparables. EP basically have higher PPG than barzal even if u take out this season and he struggled the 1st half last season and the season previous with injuries.. he's been well over a ppg for 1.5 season now compared to barzal only reached it in his first season padding stats with tavares and have been no where close since. EP have the leverage here the canucks don't and they can't afford it to drag into the season. all it takes is EP say i don't want to talk contract during the season and let it be a distraction.. then the canucks are in big trouble.. they are at risk of running out of time or have another abysmal season and have him take the 1 year qualifying offer. -

nope i don't think this current defence is playoff caliber.. while we have some great individual pieces like hughes and maybe hronek.. we have a defence that's full of imcompatibility.. we have a bunch of puck moving offensive minded defenceman that are forced into a defensive role. Hughes Hronek OEL all requires a defensive minded defenceman to cover for them in order for them to be most effective.. we don't have a single guy that we can pencil in as that guy for any of the players. OEL looked OK in the 1st year with myers but wasn't great.. and last year was horrible as he's gotten another year older and injured.. the best OEL have ever looked in a canucks uniform was when Hughes was injured and he's back to his natural role.. which he wont have a chance at with how the defence is constructed.. great pieces imcompatible.. again we looekd great against non playoff teams.. which we should.. on paper we are heads and tails above the tankers.. RT had a super easy schedule.. canucks had one of the easiest schedule if not the easiest since he took over in terms of strength of competition winning % wise.. most of the games vs the playoff teams.. we had ok results.. but if you look at the shots against and the scoring chance high danger chance.. we were destroyed in those games but bailed out by goaltending.. -

no contending team is going to take on myers at 6mil.. no rebuilding team is going to take myers without a sweetener as they dont need him to reach cap floor.. there's literally no teams below cap floor except chicago and anaheim and 100% he's on myers ntc.. and no we shouldn't trade myers with a sweetener just eat it. -
nope bobrovsky will dominate and become the only 10mil cap hit to win the cup. people are giving 0 respect to florida and treating them like some massive underdogs.. they won the president's trophy as the best team last season for crying out loud and went thru a massive change tkachuk for hud and weegar on top of a coaching change and they started to gel together at the right now and bob is playing like prime bob. bob vs hill? i take bob any day of the week

(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller
wai_lai416 replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Lol and aho would love it playing for tochett or the Canucks? There’s almost no scenario would aho re-sign with the Canucks.. he’d be playing behind EP.. playing with essentially nobody on the 2nd line playing in a system that rather you play hard nose grinding hockey than creative hockey. Beauvillier either boeser or garland or hoglander/podz ain’t exactly names that makes you excited or look forward to playing with. if Carolina moves aho they’ll be retooling… and 1000% wouldn’t want miller.. miller + whatever prospect/picks the Canucks have for Aho makes Carolina even worse than they are now -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Alexis Lafrenière

Love all the guy that’s calling laf a bust. Sure he hasn’t produce the way he was expected to.. but it’s not like he was given the opportunity either. He’s behind panarin and Kreider on the depth chart.. unrealistic expectation he can be ahead of them at this point of his career panarin a proven superstar and kreider a proven goal scorer and then trying to convert him into the off wing lol. He has the skill to be a star but he doesn’t have the skill to create by himself he needs high skill players to play with.. not sure if kakko goodrow chytil fits that categor or compliments his skill set. As a 3rd liner which is what he’s playing for the rangers.. 40points? I dunno what more you can ask for from a kid playing in the 3rd line role with limited offensive opportunity. We’d be laughing if any of our 3rd line role players even sniff 40 points -
Aquilini was livid that Canucks picked Juolevi over Tkachuk
wai_lai416 replied to -DLC-'s topic in Canucks Talk
i dunno the people that are saying if we drafted Tkachuk we wouldn't have gotten EP or Hughes.. i'd argue we'd prolly still have EP maybe even hughes.. EP didn't come over till 2018 after hughes was drafted.. Tkachuk while as good as he is i doubt would be a 40-50 point players on the canucks at that time nor would he move the needle.. there's simple no one on the canucks to play with.. the roster was god awful the sedins are a shell of themselves.. the canucks prolly still finish where they are +/- 1 spot.. even if tkachuk wanted out we would have gotten ourselves a massive return for it. much better than our current state.. not a playoff team.. and not much asset/prospect to show for it. -
(Rumour) Canucks Blackhawks at the draft
wai_lai416 replied to Baratheon's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
You sure you not looking at the wrong svechnikov? The one drafted by detroit is like borderline nhler and crouse is a nhl regular with 3x the points I’m not against trading down but it have to be way more than just garland. Garland can play at least and at worse I think just need a 2nd attached to move him. So instead of just moving garland and say a 2nd you move garland and drop 8 spots in the draft. Not worth it imo. We can’t just assume because other teams have once in a while drafted good players at 19 or there’s even good players available at 19 Canucks will do the same. This team in the last 20 years have drafted poorly outside the top 8 with their 1st rounders vs what was available I mean sure 11 still outside top 8 but chances of a concensus higher end player is higher than at 19 where it’s prolly spin the wheel -

unless they are capable of moving out cap prior to july 1st.. which is highly unlikely we ain't getting anyone to play with hughes. and none of the guys from within is capable of playing in a top 4 role let alone the minutes hughes plays 5v5.. can you foresee any of the johansson juulsen woo playing on the top pairing with hughes? those guys maybe good for 10-12mins a game.. so who's playing the other 8-10mins with hughes? i didn't think OEL looked great in his first year he was adequate. Myers probably regressed another year as did OEL this season hence they look exponentially bad. OEL is another year older and dealing with injuries and again expected to play a role that is nothing remotely close to what he's known for. we keep jamming square pegs in round holes and hoping it will magically work or be just adequate. OEL have been regressing every year since his arizona days. i dont see that changing and him reinventing himself. he'll probably have success playing in the 3rd pairing which is not a bad thing if we can find 2 players that can play with hughes and hronek.. but given the cap situation probably wont happen unless they can magically move myers prior to his bonus or even able to move him at all. and by then all free agents will be gone. sure you can go over the cap in the off season.. but who's going to take ur cap dump knowing you are well over the cap and all of a sudden instead of costing a 2nd to say move a myers or garland.. people will ask for a 1st. -

usually easier to acquire. we've been looking for a partner for hughes ever since tanev. our defence is small, our forward ain't exactly big either. we dont need a team defence full of redundant skill set players. Hughes Hronek and OEL are all puck moving offence first player with the former 2 being small and tiny and we have OEL converted into a role he's not comfortable in.. a defensive defenceman paired with Myers. OEL have looked the best in a vancouver uniform when Hughes was injured playing in hughes role.. he have looked god awful paired with myers being the more defensive player of the 2. our priority was to find a defensively sound defenceman that can play in the top 4 not another offensive defenceman that requires a defensive d partner. i personally dont think OEL will work as his partner because he'll be in the same role as he was playing with myers.. and we are probably going to end up looking for a partner that you claim are usually easier to acquire for hughes and hronek -

there's also a lot of data out there that suggest hronek isn't matched up against other teams top players and he was only good when paired with matta.. he's a very good offensive defenceman.. him and QH on the defence will give the canucks a lot of firepower.. but again offence is not the problem.. limiting other teams offence is.. and how often do you see teams make a big trade for an injured player?? especially one that was likely to be injured till almost the end of the season? if not the rest of the season? he doesn't have the track record or pedigree of a jack eichel it's a massive risk he might not even come back the same with his shoulder injury.. and you think he's going to sign for 6mil? 40 points in 60 games RD and he's very good defensively as you guys claim. hughes is not really a comparable because he signed his so early into his career and by the time his contract is over he's not even going to bein his peak prime years yet.. so the well hughes is signed for 7.85mil so therefore hronek will only get 6. Hughes is a bargain if he signed a bridge instead he'd be in the 9.5mil range easily. for hronek's production he'd be easily looking at 7+ that is if he's willing to sign here and will all depends on how he looks production wise without the pp1 mins and who knows what chaos we have as his partner. OEL looks like the default partner for him assuming he's back next season.. and again both players are similar role.. puck moving offensive defenseman.. probably wont end up well. literally OEL Hughes and Hronek all are better served with a more defensive minded partner.. we dont exactly have any of that as a LD or RD.. OEL struggled playing the defensive defenceman role partnered with myers.. he's probably going to struggle playing that role with hronek coz simply that's not his style. -

sure you can say yzerman got rid of Hronek because he didn't want to pay him.. but they were in the middle of a "playoff" hunt literally just 1 or 2 points out and trading Hronek whos still signed beyond the year and also a "rfa" makes no sense if their reasoning to trade him was we didn't want to pay him. detroit are not in cap trouble. if you are comparing every single defenceman on every single team.. then i guess they are well above average. i'm basing it on there's 32 teams theres' 64 top pairing defenceman out there.. they are probably both in the low 30s+. again taking a hit that is more than likely will result in a concussion and then playing the next game means absolutely nothing. look at tua in the NFL? he took a hit "passed" the concussion test and came right back to play and only to be concussed again. still doesnt change the narrative he had a concussion before and he took another huge blow to the head that may or may not lead to concussion but he's definitely will be more suceptible to them than others. also how willing is he to sign long term in vancouver if say he doesn't get the top pairing assignment nor any pp1 time with qh anchored there.. reason i say this is next season will have a huge impact on his contract. if his numbers dropped because he's no longer getting the top pairing mins or PP mins he normally would get on another team they'll try to offer him less. or is he going to think to himself he can and will make more playing elsewhere? -
if goalie bob somehow takes the panther to the final win it or not. i think we can say his contract was worth it for florida. you just wish a big contract star player carry you for the chance at a cup once in their contract. Bob is doing exactly that.. and if they win the cup? i think they can care less if bob becomes a backup goalie for the remainder of his contract. right now the goalie with the most skillset remaining in the playoff is bob.. the goalie that's the hottest right now is also bob.. he's kinda like the 2011 version of tim thomas right now.

let's be real even if the islanders were to miss the playoff that pick will at best be within the 13-16 range.. hardly a "lottery" and it's protected anyways.. and if it gets pushed to next year.. everyone is just assuming well islanders is guaranteed to be bad so it'll be another lottery pick.. didn't we guaranteed the canucks would be better this year? Yzerman is more like Hronek is average at best defensively.. you can't win with a bunch of offensive defenceman that's is average to below average defence... that's what the canucks have 1 high end offensive defenceman with average defence and another above average defenceman with slightly below average defence.. both small too.. Yzerman prolly got rid of hronek because he's literally 1 or 2 bad hit from calling it a career and ya he's not wrong the hughes and hronek ain't going to move anyone parked in front of the net in the playoff.. where majority of the goals are scored. -

take over? so what's detroit defence outside of seider and hronek? with both on the team it's not even that impressive so why would he get rid of him
