  1. i honestly wonder if hronek will be happy in vancouver and even consider signing long term here or just take his qualifying offer and look to leave.. my reason being Hronek is used to be one of the top pairing guys in detroit and play on their top powerplay along with their top lines more often than not.. powerplay is where he got 50% of his points. he ain't getting a sniff on that pp1 as long as hughes is here.. OEL was a pp1 guy in arizona and he didn't even get a sniff last year.. hronek ain't gonna get a sniff here. his even strength production have never been spectacular as a top pairing in detroit now that he's a 2nd pairing guy with more defensive role the production will probably drop further.. him getting only 20-25 points next season is not completely out of the ball park.. the amount he would get paid for being a 20-25 point guy vs a 40-50 point guy is going to be massive. ever since the departure of edler.. the next highest scoring defenceman have always hovered around the 20 points.. don't think that's a coincident with the arrival of hughes getting every prime offensive opportunity and i don't see that changing.
  2. the fact he have like over 30 more points even strength than the next closest defenceman alone he wins it... if SJ have any offensive players remaining with talents and have a respectable powerplay.. we are talking about top 5 in scoring.. prior to last night.. he have as much even strength points than QH does in total points.. he's only behind connor mcdavid for the most even strength points which is crazy.
  3. Karlsson will win by a landslide, he has 69 even strength points.. that's almost double hughes.. i honestly don't even think Hughes will be a finalist.. he needs to be like karlsson heads and shoulder above others offensively to even have a chance to be a finalist imo.. others are putting up similar clips but are far more impressive defensively compared to hughes. Morrissey hamilton dahlin they are doing it at both ends of the rink while putting up the points. everyone is like double hughes in block shots/hits combined and some of them are putting up higher pts/60 than hughes is. sergarhev is even more impressive.. he's putting up good numbers but damn the amount of hits and block shot is impressive. he more than triple Hughes. while Hughes defensive play this season is solid but he doesn't stand out defensively like some of the other guys on the list. and not really the go to guy for tough defensive situation.
  4. No sh!t it’s not the typical steeping stone to nhl success but it’s pretty much the only stepping stone to nhl if you don’t stick in the nhl genius. So what’s their path to the nhl if they don’t make it day 1 into the nhl? Go play in Europe? The KHL?
  5. again i have no idea why you are focusing on defenceman only and not ahl prospect in general. Vancouver have produced the one of the least if not the least amount of notable nhl players out of the bunch. columbus is actually doing pretty well in terms of having ahl defenceman making the jump to the nhl. peeke, christiansen, jiricek.. there are only x amount of top 4 players in the league.. you seem to think a team have to be pumping out a top 4 defenceman every year or 2 for it to be a successful.. so what if that team mostly just drafted forwards and have forwards graduate? that still make them good at developing their prospects right? theres far more forwards than defenceman drafted every year.. of coz teams ain't going to be pumping out defenceman.. but when you are looking at teams that have a higher ratio of talents that gets developed and making it into the nhl? regardless of position? vancouver is one of the worse. Vancouver's inability to develop prospect in their ahl system is well known and documented. as for nashville? they've been drafting and focused more on offence.. but at least they are actually pumping out forwards. forsberg gaudreau avidsson fiala wilson sissons watson heck jeannot who they turned into the haul of the year and saros..seems like a pretty good program they are running there.. and few more years back you have ryan ellis josi and ekholm
  6. no one said bo is worth 8.5mil and we all know the scoring is not sustainable, but if i was given the choice last summer? i would have signed bo to 6.5-7 and shipped miller out because bo is better fitted to play a 2c/3c role than Miller is. after the start bo got this year? it was evident he wouldn't be re-signed in vancouver and i was in the camp of trade them both. our timeline is prolly around 3 years.. if people are guaranteeing bo is a declining asset 3 years from now.. then what does that make miller? gauranteed declining asset in 1 year since he's 2 years older? i don't think Islanders are regretting the trade more so regretting signing that massive contract.. prolly could have waited a little instead of signing him right away after the trade.. their goal was to make the playoff.. and they are pretty much lock to make the playoff.. and that was with barzal and pageau out for a good chunk.. and bo had to play the 1c and a 3c role at the same time. yes bo is not producing right now.. but he is still doing all the things he needed to help his team win. he's already almost blocked more shots than he had in vancouver in less than half the games.. will he worth his contract prolly not.. but islanders got what they wanted get in the playoff.. and at this rate.. they get the carolina hurricane.. he literally did nothing at the deadline.. lost pac for the season.. lost svech for the season.. they actually have a legit shot at getting out of the 1st round and even possibly the 2nd round because they would have dodged the bostons tampa toronto.. the devils and rangers are both completely beatable whoever makes it out of the 1st round. if playoff bo shows up and gets them couple round of playoff hockey? i dont' think islander regrets the trade much.. prolly just regret the amount he's signed for. i mean remember just couple weeks ago people were guaranteeing islander miss the playoff.. the islander pick is guaranteed in in the top 15 and we would get a lottery pick next season?
  7. you are looking at 1 team and looking at defenceman only ignoring every other player... and say ahl development doesn't matter.. on the opening night roster across the nhl around 83% of the players have spent time in the AHL in some way shape or form.. and half of them spent time in both leagues to develop.. obviously AHL is not a mandatory stepping stone for some players.. but if you are borderline player.. obviously you have to also look at the AHL development.. not all players comes in and instantly become who they are now.. they take time to develop.. Seider shesterkin connor rantanen miller batherson are prolly the bigger names that had to go thru the ahl grind. if players have the choice.. obviously they are also going to look at prospect development to ensure they have the best chance to make it to the nhl.. so ya i think it matters.. you think Livingstone is not thinking about his development and his chance to make the NHL in the future if he doesn't stick on opening night? the ahl development might have gotten better the last couple years with some promising players like klimovich karlsson silov and ratu.. but until they make it to the nhl and stick.. the perception stays the same.. our farm system is where all our prospect goes and rot.. notable players like gaudette and JV are both out of the nhl.. JV was on his way out of the nhl before his allegation
  8. I’m not talking about current? Over their last 10 years they have plenty and a very good track record, and there’s team I’m not going to look thru all of them have some success with their minor league. Vancouver on the other hand straight up have 0 outside of Demko in the last decade. They have some promising ones currently but until they actually get to the nhl.. Vancouver have one of it not the worse minor league system in terms of producing nhl talent in the last decade
  9. i mean a good majority of the defenceman that ain't from the NCAA still have to go thru the AHL.. most defenceman drafted don't go from juniors straight to NHL. we haven't had a defenceman from the AHL that stuck with the team since Bieska i think? he's probably thinking to himself if i don't make it day 1 on to the NHL.. he'll prolly have no chance with vancouver. Nashville over time have pumped out a lot of defenceman that had to spend a year or 2 in their ahl system.. and they still are.
  10. we have a god awful record of developing prospects with sustain NHL success. outside of Demko.. we currently have 0 players on the team that came thru the minors and having success in the nhl. the media here is pretty toxic as with the fan base especially on cdc the canadian dollar sucks the income tax here sucks if i'm a college kid.. i'll look at one of the teams that have a proven track record of developing prospect and also look for a state with the lowest tax to sign with coz who knows if you'll make it in the nhl or not and the amount getting taxed would make a huge difference for them if they don't end up with a career in the nhl.
  11. lol? there's literally 5 teams ahead of the canucks in the western conference pt% extended for a full season.. not to mention canucks schedule is top 5 weakest since the coaching change.
  12. who are these "plenty" of teams out there? only chicago and anaheim aren't anywhere close to the cap floor for next season.. every other team will be at or over the cap floor once they have a roster of minimum players. chicago and anaheim is more likely than not on myer's 10 team no trade.. good luck finding a team that'll take myers for free without us retaining or giving a sweetener because it sure ain't hell going to be a bottom feeding team or a team needing to reach cap floor because there's literally only 2 teams.. the next 2 teams are new jersey and detroit.. they'll easily reach the cap floor and well over it assuming detroit isn't planning on tanking another year. all OEL have to do is remain on IR and he can't be bought out lol.
  13. there's no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to the canucks especially on defence or defensive players in general. we've basically seen every defensive signing forwards or defenceman 80-90% of them struggle on this team.. if anything Gavrikov cap can be covered by myers since everyone saying teams would line up for him at 1mil salary and moving one of boeser or myers. If OEL continues to struggle in year 3 and 4? ok then we buy him out. yes he would still cost 4.xx mil for the first 2 years of the buy out.. but it would be much easier to manage since we didn't already spend 7mil using the saving from year 1 i'll be hey we gained 3mil in cap space.. instead of damn we need to cut 4.8mil in cap space somewhere. not to mention we are only on the hook for 4 years vs 8 years of dead cap. if the canucks are a legit cup contender right now? i'm all for buying out OEL.. it's like the NFL where they just push the cap a couple years back to compete and try to win now.. but i firmly maintain canucks will not be a cup contender in the next 2 years.. fringe playoff contender maybe. i mean every year we laugh at how everyone picks us to miss the playoff and be bad.. and so far every year they have been spot on.
  14. so you think this team is a legit cup contender in the next 1-2 years and can win a cup in that window? coz if we ain't winning a cup within that window we just gave ourself a massive handicap on year 3 and 4 when EP and hughes will be in the meat of their prime... and let's assume they buy out garland too coz they can't move him.. we'll be looking at almost 7mil worth of dead cap between 2 players.. i'd like to actually have a team with a legit shot at a cup rather than a team that sneaks into the playoff and maybe get lucky.. i mean sure you might be right they buy out OEL but i think that's the type of move that'll cost the canucks any chance at a cup in the EP/Hughes era... the move is short sighted and benefits the canucks in year 1 and 2 and then becomes an anchor in year 3 and 4 prolly whats left of miller's effectiveness of his contract before he joins the rank of anchors in year 5-6-7 so unless you are planning on winning the cup in the next 2 years.. i don't see how this is a "good" move
  15. yes and? OEL is a fantasy move that won't happen as it'll cost the owner 20mil to pay a guy to not play.. and if FA is all about the revenue.. why would he toss 20mil down the drain? not to mention the massive cap penalty in year 3 and 4 when the team is suppose to be good enough for the retool.. dumbest move u can make trying to free up space for the next 2 years when we are most likely still irrelevant just to take on a big penalty on year 3 and 4 when we are suppose to be relevant. outside of a OEL buyout that would give u a huge cap saving.. garland only frees u about 4mil.. that still put us right up to the cap.. hardly anything to spend on ufa
  16. 6-8mil? try 10.. if u can get both of them for 8mil.. that's a massive steal.. there's enough buzz around gavrikov he's prolly going to get 5.5-6mil easily alone.. i see no chance the canucks are in on either players as i don't see any team will be happily taking caps from the canucks prior to july 1st and they'll prolly be gone within the first couple days. any chance of us moving anything will probably happen after free agent frenzy for team that missed out... unless they plan on attaching draft picks and retaining.. that's the only way i see any team will make trades with canucks prior to july 1st.. as there's 0 urgency from any teams to make deal with canucks as those players will still be there well into the summers.
  17. Pettersson is a game breaker Hughes is not. as great as Hughes is he ain't going to win you a game with the puck on his stick.. he still needs someone to put it in the net for him unlike EP he can do both.
  18. can't look at it that way and say well if goaltending was better.. we'd be a playoff team.. this team was bleeding high danger chance left and right.. put in a vezina goalie and they'll probably still struggle.. it's not they were giving up aa chance.. they were literally giving up AAAAAAAAA chance.. how many breakaways 2-1 3-1 were we giving up in the beginning of the season? how many PP goals were we giving up every game?
  19. i'm not angry about the wins i just dont care about the wins.. been thru this too many years in a row to know not to get excited over it at the same time not to get excited over the draft lottery because they are used to being the best of the worse. besides when was the last time the canucks didn't draft a dud in the 1st round outside of a top 9 pick anyways? almost 20 years ago?
  20. At least the leafs gets to blow in the first round. We get to blow before 50% or the season is over as per the last 3 lol
  21. Keep on winning only 3 points from eliminated from bedard sweepstake
  22. lol anaheim tbh won't have trouble reach cap floor either.. zegras and terry are both inline for a massive raise... i can see them both getting 7 or higher... that'll literally take them right to the floor.. they won't need myers brock or whatever else you want to dump on them.. chicago might be the only option.. but if he's on myers no trade list which is very possible.. then that dream is gone.. if chicago's the only team that's open to taking cap dump there will be teams lining up to dump to them and the highest bidder wins.. i'm sure chicago if taking cap dumps will only be taking contract that are expiring at the end of the season and not take anything with terms attached.. 1 they can weaponize the cap again the following year.. 2 they can easily flip it at thd TDL if they play well enough.. don't see the willing to take brock or garland let alone having to give up draft pick for it.
  23. buying out OEL is absolutely the dumbest move the management can make.. u save 7mil next season and then 5mil the following season.. then all of a sudden u have a massive almost 5mil cap hit for 2 years... i rather eat 50% of OEL's cap hit and trade him to a team he wants if there are teams out there willing to take him.. or just wait out Myers contract.. so we are trying to dump OEL and myers and then spending all 13mil into the defence? and then we also want to dump boeser and garland.. so what's the plan with all the cap space?? is there someone we are targetting in UFA? coz we sure ain't got nothing worth while other teams would want in terms of trading for a good young player unless you are planning on dumping this years 1st as well. if they manage to move myers sweetener or not and one of boeser or garland.. that's literally all the cap space they would need to add another top 4 defenceman.. not sure what buying out OEL would accomplish other than having extra cap space but nothing to spend on.. there's literally nothing enticing in the UFA market this year that would take this team to the next level.. even if you want a garikov and severson or whomever else.. a myer + boeser/garland would already cover most if not all of it.
  24. arizona don't need anything to reach cap floor let alone giving you draft pick so u can cap dump.. they are at 58mil with only 14 players signed and 5 rfa cap floor is expected around 62.5-63.5... you guys need to stop fantasizing dumping cap to arizona for free it ain't happening.. they don't need it nor would they do it for free... the only teams that aren't close to the cap floor and are full out tanking are anaheim and chicago.. and chances are he's on myers 10 team no trade.. good luck asking him to waive that.. any move involving myers will involve sweetener or retention.. no contenders are going to take myers at 6mil.. maybe 3mil they would consider as a bottom pairing teams that want to make the playoff.. cap>>>>salary
  25. lol the only real core players ont hat list is EP Hughes and Demko, kuz is a suplementry player and Miller will not be a core player when the team is MAYBE competing in 3-4 years.. if a 33-34 year old is a core player on ur team you have problems. we are talking about cup contenders not how many cup they have won.. if we want to talk about cup winners.. the recent Tampa bays chicagos pittsburgh LA.. their core are all littered with high end players drafted high in the draft and actual impact players not the "regulars" and all those team that have drafted a bunch of top 10 players? look no further.. most of them are well ahead of the canucks in the standing and have a loaded prospect pool to go with it.. of the last 10 years.. there's only 5 teams with a worse overall point % than the canucks.. and all 5 of those teams with the exception of coyotes are ahead of the canucks in the standing.. swimming in caps and prospect..
