  1. how is EP being paid as a "top center" salary dictates your position? there are as much "top wingers" making as much if not more than the "top center" in the league. When will EP e capable of being the center that can take 1000+ faceoff a year?? possibily not till he's 26-27.. which is what? 3-4 years away? Miller wasn't even a 1000 faceoff guy till last season. By the time EP is ready to be the go to guy at center.. Miller will prolly be at the end if not past his prime and bo close behind..
  2. lol nhl 22 the video game wouldn't even accept this deal.. any gm that remotely thinks there's value in this deal for edmonton will prolly be banished from the league for the rest of their life lol
  3. it's not just about the faceoff.. it's also about the deployment.. a few of you said miller is only worse than horvat in faceoff and is better in everythign else.. no.. miller is better than horvat offensively.. he's worse than Horvat in all aspect defensively.. hussle, positioning pressuring.. you have to be a blind homer to say miller is better than horvat in any of those i mentioned.. yes horvat is not the greatest defensive player in the league.. not even close.. but he does ok.. and is miles ahead of any other canuck for that role.. seriously you guys think dickinson can go up 15+ mins a night against other teams top players?? or you think EP/Miller is better in horvat's role while not sacrificing their offense production? you take out horvat you need to spread the 1600+ faceoff he takes between Miller EP and dickinson?? sure i dont think the team will fall apart if we traded horvat.. just like i don't think this team would suffer like people think if we moved miller.. all it would is set the team back a couple of years before reaching that contender status. only difference is horvat woulda been in the 29-30 range and miller would be in the 32-33 range.. what is the point of signing miller if they plan on ridding horvat and set the progress back a few years until miller is 31-32?
  4. ya the defense balance is of real concern but what can we do.. we can't get a RHD.. and management don't seem to have that as an priority since we spent whatever cap we had on more forwards.. once again this season making the playoffs is going to be all on demko whether he stands on his head playing in vezina form and whether or not he can handle 60+ games.. as much as martin have shown last season.. i don't see him 20+ games. demko will probably end up top 3 in the league in total amounts of saves and shots against... hopefully someone in defense surprise us.. but i'm not holding out hopes for that.
  5. that is true, but splitting OEL and Hughes at least give us 2 competent pairings that you can rotate in a tight game late with the lead.. while the right side is weak.. Hughes/Schenn is a very capable pairing. what is the reasoning to force OEL and Hughes on the same line?? if anything you can force OEL to the right side and have him with Rathbone or something at least that'll give you 2 pairings each with a capable defenseman on there rather than 1 capable pairing and then all question marks.
  6. That’s some terrible looking bottom 4 pairing. We will be lucky if Demko makes it out of October in 1 piece playing behind those pairing.. outside of the top pair I think other team would feast on the bottom 4.. schenn is not capable of 2nd pairing by himself.. and Myers and dermott? That’s a disaster waiting to happen. People here are obsess with forcing OEL or Hughes to the right side and play them together.. but they don’t really look at how unbalance and poor that would make the bottom 2 pairing with the current players we have.
  7. dumbest proposal i've seen in a while.. ya let's trade away cheap elc players with great potential when we are cap strapped... let's rid all our cheap elc so we have 0 cap space with all our big contract and future big contract.
  8. Make sense to sign young 21-24 players to the big long term contract if they are worth it then signing the 28-29 years old to that massive retirement contract.. at least you are getting guaranteed prime years value out of the contract where the 28-29 year old is a massive gamble on how long or short they can stay in their prime for. Maybe this will be the new nhl trend the next generation the top end kids get the long term big deal and the older players get the big aav short term deal and then once they no longer in prime get the smaller deals. It’s a lot cheaper for teams to buy out the young player vs the older players. Only cost 1/3 on the contract compared to 2/3
  9. Lol subban played 77 games last year coz he’s still under that massive contract.. they ain’t gonna pay him to sit at home and devils we’re going no where.. nobody wants him and his ego on the team.. especially when he’s prolly a bottom 2 pairing at best on a good team
  10. not really there was literally 0 scenario where they lose both.
  11. what leverage does it give the team? bo can go similar route.. cut off negotiation after season starts.. and then we are willing to go to the TDL and trade him as a rental?? we just re-signed miller going all in with the current core.. are we going to be trading horvat at the TDL for a prospect and a pick like many were complaining about with the trade miller camp that the prospect and pick won't be ready for years to come if they even pan out? and then you'll say well we freed up cap space.. ok we freed up cap space and now need to replace it with a capable shutdown center.. and some how replace the 1600+ faceoffs on top of fixing the RHD.. so instead of having 1 problem let's create mutliple problems to fix.
  12. lol there's no way bo even considers a bridge... sign a bridge deal and we'll sign you to a higher deal nudge nudge wink wink? so what if he has a career ending injury? what if bo struggles with regular injury and have a drop in production? you still think the canucks will offer him what they promise?? or say well that's unfortunate.. here's a deal for half of what we promise or worse..
  13. lol i laugh at people even suggesting he should be signing what nugent hopkin signed for.. nugent hopkin is not even close as a comparable to bo horvat nor is he deployed in the same situation.. nugent hopkin also was overpaid on his last contract at 6mil hence he prolly took a bit of a discount to stay.. his advance stats is terrible.. he takes 1/2 of the faceoff horvat takes.. and he's not used in a match up role.. and his stats were padded with draisatil playing on his line leading up to his contract.. the guy avgs 14mins a night.. while bo is over 19.. so how are they comparable?? so if we replace Bo with RNH playing in the same role we would be no difference?? so whos the guy that's going to take up the 700-800 extra faceoff bo takes over RNH? and who's playing the matchup role against other teams top line that nobody likes to play? bo will end up inbetween 6.5-7.5 i'm going to say more like 7-7.5. why he gets close to Miller's number?? well if you say Miller is going to be in his prime till 33.. that's 3 years of prime only in that contract we are signing horvat for his prime years 28 29 30 31 32 33.. that's 6 years of his prime.. if miller was the same age as horvat? he'd prolly be signing in the 9.5mil if we were to get him for 6+ prime years.
  14. so you ignore the fact that RNH in his best years doesnt even take half the amount of draws of horvat.. and are we going to simply ignore Nugent Hopkin most common linemate prior to this season is Draisatil? you know the guy that's #2 in total points in the last 5 seasons? they are never deployed in the same role.. you are telling me the last 4-5 season when Draisatil is playing with RNH.. they were their um shutdown matchup line against other teams top line? lol
  15. if hoglander can bounce back i don't mind.. but personally i would prefer something like kuzmenko as he's a little bit bigger than hoglander. it really all depends on how hoglander does in training camp as bruce doesn't seem high on him based on last season anyways.
  16. podz is way better fit on pettersson then he is on miller. Podz can drive the net and play with speed and back defenders off giving pettersson space. Mikheyev if anything should be playing with miller he’s the worse defender out of the bunch besides faceoff and his analytical stats would support that mikheyev can cover his deficiency and brain farts with the puck as he’s top 10 in giveaways amongst forward in the league. Kuzmenko would also be a candidate to play with pettersson. Pettersson is not only a playmaker.. he has the most lethal shot in our forward group by a country mile. Having a guy capable of setting him up for goals at the same time he’s setting others for goals is not a bad thing
  17. again if the cap is at 90+mil in couple years.. EP is going to be asking minimum 8.75 equivalent to the slightly below 10% miller is getting now if their production is simliar or slightly below.. do you think if EP becomes 100 point guy he and his agent is going to be using Miller's "internal cap" as reference? or you think they going to use % of the cap player signed for at the time as a reference and also look at other players in the league? if EP produce similar as miller he'll end up with more than miller due to inflated cap. that's just how it works in the NHL. when Mcdavid's contract is up.. you think he's going to be asking for 1-2mil raise?? he's going to be asking for 15% of whatever the cap is at the time just like his last contract..
  18. so that means miller never should have gotten more than 7mil on this team.. coz he's never at any point better than the sedins yet... even though 7mil is like 10% of the cap back then, but according to you guys % of the cap doesn't matter it's the actual aav number he's making.. so eer why are the players upper salary increasing?? no one should have been making more than Sidney Crosby ever.. just coz Miller signed his contract at almost 10% of the salary cap.. that means the next player is going to be signing at 10% of whatever that current salary cap is.. you might have a point if u say no one should get more than 10% of the current salary cap when they sign.. but good luck trying to convince the better players they should sign for less.. ya Miller is worth 10% of the cap.. EP? nah u can only have 8% of the salary cap even if ur production is on par because no one is allowed to have higher than 8mil.. that's how the NHL contract have been negotiated recently right no one is allowed to make more than the top producing player on the team. so how is it possible Stamko is the 4th highest cap hit on tampa?? point kucherov and vaseilevsky at most should be making same as stamkos as for the signing itself i don't hate it. ive been on trading Miller but i've also said if he's willing to sign something between 7.5-8 i'm ok with keeping him depending on term. 7 is a compromise between 6 and 8.. what is worrying though is everyone here assuming we have improved so much we are guaranteed lock to make the playoff.. the biggest concern with this team still haven't been addressed which is defense.. this team under bruce have 11 wins in 28 attempts vs playoff teams and unless they continue their dominance on the supposively bottom feeders team.. the road to the playoff is still a big question mark.. a lot of the supposively bottom feeder teams have made enough improvement to their team where victory against them is not guaranteed.. so say we miss the playoffs again because demko can't handle 60 games a season still... whats next?? tear down rebuild?
  19. so if that's the case no one on this team should have ever had a contract bigger than the sedins? even though the cap is way different
  20. again miller's cap hit right now will have absolutely no bearing on EP's next contract. if say EP produce the same/slightly less as miller by the time for him to re-up. he's going to be getting more than 8mil. probably closer to 8.75 if the cap goes up to 90mil by the time ep contract is up... they are going to look at % of the cap when the contract was signed.. and it's close to 10%.. ep will be looking at 10% or possibly even higher if he matches Miller's production or close.. because you are likely signing him to a max 8 year contract thru his entire prime.. 0 chance EP will be signing his next contract at 8mil or below if he's a ppg guy. even if it ends up below Miller's production.
  21. doesn't set anything in a few years when EP is up for renewal he'll get over 8 based on the cap going up alone even if he ends up just around 80ish points a season guy
  22. funny to think anyone that still have their sanity after being in this thread 1220+ pages later to think Miller will come in anywhere remotely close to 7mil
  23. less mins doesn't = fresher doesn't = more points either.. if that's the case then players would be scoring more the beginning of the season than late in the season and score more in the first 2 periods than they would later in the game. their pts/60 is pretty similar the last few seasons so unless they magically boost that number up more mins = more chance = more points.
  24. ya i don't see them being happy with reduced min on their contract year .. all players want to win.. they want to win while getting paid.. if they care about winning only and not their contracts. they would have signed a team friendly contract by now.. any reduction in production because of spread out mins will probably be used against them in negotiation if contract is not done before the season and if they are not traded at the TDL.
  25. if both miller and bo heads into the season without a contract.. and boudreau decides to roll 3 lines deep and both miller and bo have reduced offensive minutes/pp depending on whatever they do with it and have a drop in offense.. and their production this year is used against them if it drops in negotiation i can see the negotiation go south real quick... 2 of your top players in a contract year getting their opportunity spread out to others coz they want to "spread" the offense..
