  1. if both miller and bo heads into the season without a contract.. and boudreau decides to roll 3 lines deep and both miller and bo have reduced offensive minutes/pp depending on whatever they do with it and have a drop in offense.. and their production this year is used against them if it drops in negotiation i can see the negotiation go south real quick... 2 of your top players in a contract year getting their opportunity spread out to others coz they want to "spread" the offense..
  2. So was Myers but I seem to recall cdc have his head on a pitchfork atm
  3. actually there are a few here that's talking about he's so good defensively hence he got the 1 or 2 random selke participation vote lol. and the sedins were relatively productive near the end of their career they were still producing at 50-60 points good enough for a 2nd line role.. because their game tbh never relied on the speed so i'm not quite sure what the people here are talking about saying the sedins were useless once they became slow.. they were literally slow the entire career.. meanwhile Miller relies on his speed to be effective.. once father time catches up and he loses a step will he be effective in a 3rd or 4th line role as a checking/shutdown guy? my guess is no unless he changes his game and become more engage defensively rather than just being there.
  4. Lol the guy kills penalty because there’s literally no other choice on this team. Who else on the team is capable of taking the defensive faceoff? No one besides Horvat and Horvat is playing pk2 significantly less min. Because they need him for the 5v5 mins against the other teams top line. Miller have one of the worse defensive rating out of our “top 6” and easily the laziest out of the bunch. The only upside to his defensive side is faceoff and he can hit.. he is one of the most passive defensive player in the defensive zone.. with 0 pressure on the puck and always the first guy out of the zone. He’s not the main reason why our pk was so bad but he’s one of the reasons..
  5. lol doesn't matter how you guys spin it.. for a team that missed the playoffs 7 of the past 9 years.. and still not a lock as a playoff contender.. it's still pretty sad..
  6. Lots of good analysis but I’m not a fan of your ep hoglander mik line. You put ur most offensively gifted forward with a guy with 18 and 32 points and hope one will bounce back and the other have another gear?? While giving all the players with much higher offensive potential to miller and Horvat. so mikheyev adds defensive presence. Ep is a good defender himself.. so are we trying to turn this into a shutdown line? If anything mikheyev should play with miller since miller willingness to play defense is questionable at best.. if anything I put ep at least podkolzin or kuzmenko before I put him with hoglander or mikheyev. Kuzmenko play making ability should make EP a threat with his ability to finish. I also find it unlikely Pearson Dickinson will be your rotating forward on the 4th line. 6mil+ rotating in and out of the press box? Ya I get you guys have a hate on Pearson for whatever reason.. but he’s as productive as mikheyev and make quite a bit less.. so why is he all of a sudden a candidate to rotate into the press box?
  7. ok to be fair the sedins fit your description of slight drop off to the range of 50-60 points and not fall off a cliff :D but at the same time their style of play doesn't rely on speed nor do they play the style of Miller that will take a toll on your body. i dont care how well Miller take care of his body.. as he age he's going to gradually be slower.. u can see from a lot of his play.. he likes to skate thru people.. and hes effective at doing it.. but as he slows down.. he's not going to be able to do the same..
  8. ya coz god forbids hughes podz Pettersson kuzmenko garland whoever else u want to add in that top 6 or traded or get rid of have already maxed out and the combination of them can't squeeze out something close to 99 points coz there's no way any of those player continue to progress and they have all maxed out their talent right? oh hey maybe EP gets 10-15 more points.. maybe horvat gets 5-10 more points.. maybe boeser bounce back and have another 10-15 points like all his other seasons avg.. maybe podz progress and adds another 10-15 points in .. maybe kuzmenko gets u 30-40 points and maybe we can use the cap space for a RHD that can get u 30-40 points.. oh look even if only half of those come true we are already close to replacing the points while fixing the other issues on this team.. and i'm fairly optimistic EP can get another 10-15 points while kuzmenko if he stays in vancouver can get at least 30-40 points.. maybe hoglander bounces back? the 99 points can be collectively replace.. just like you guys laugh at calgary losing out on 2 100+ point guy but yet they manage to replace it with 3 guys that have more points combined... and if miller were traded for picks and prospect.. we can never be a contender?? coz picks and prospect are not allowed to be flipped for another player?? so only other teams are allowed to offer picks and prospect for canucks Miller but the canucks are not allowed to use picks and prospects to possibly trade for other players in similar situation in a few years right? coz only the Canucks will have situation like this with Miller coz it's the canucks? and did JR out right say we'll be a contender in 3 years? more like he said he hope he'll have this team to be a contender by then..
  9. exactly when? who knows at least the president of hockey ops have the same opinion as me about the cup contender window is at least 2-3 years away.. but you guys seems to think we are a contender right now therefore we should go all in lock up all the players and the caps going to be 100mil+ in a few years according to some of you with your crystal balls.
  10. this have nothing to do with I want miller traded.. this have everything to do with miller being the most logical piece to move because of where the canucks are and what their window to compete looks like. Miller will not be the star player he is now by the time the canucks are a cup contender. As of right now we are a fringe playoff team. Next step would be a playoff contender. We ain’t going from a fringe playoff team to a cup contender overnight in 1 or 2 moves. We are prolly at least 3 years from that.. and then what? Have miller for maybe 1-2 year before he comes an anchor during what maybe our window to compete just to handicap ourself?
  11. Oh you didn’t think the team improved last off season too with Dickinson poolman Oel? An extra year for hoglander last year too and where did he end up? The biggest problem with this team was never the forwards.. it’s always been the defence and the pk we literally have done nothing to address it. We though Dickinson poolman would help with the pk did it? You are just assuming every move will work out perfect for the team. Rathbone was terrible in the nhl last season in the limited amount of games. I don’t see him making an impact on the 3rd pairing playing with whatever leftovers dermott burrough or whomever else. He won’t get any of the offensive opportunity and he’s not a defensive defenseman. Podz can take the next step next season or he can struggle like hoglander did last season.. the canucks literally need every single player to work out and improved to mask their problem to have a shot at the playoff. You are just assuming every player with flourish.. how often did a late bloomer in the khl worked out in the nhl? Very rarely. We will be lucky if 2/3 of the move we made in the off season works out. Let alone every single one
  12. sure and that's 4 seasons from now? so whats the point of comparing him to Miller's situation? if someone will offer demko 10% of their cap for 7 years at 30 years old? then go ahead they can have him in ufa. as good as demko have been he haven't shown he can handle more than 60 games a season + playoffs yet without burning out. he was literally burned out in March as evidence by a fairly large drop in play.. and it won't get any easier in the playoffs...
  13. if demko is 29-30 asking for a 8 year retirement contract at over 10% of the teams cap? yes i would trade him. but he's not so whats your point? no one is saying trade Miller because he doesn't make the team better. it's whatever contract we sign him to if we re-sign him won't age well. let say he plays well till 33.. he'll still have 5 years of being overpaid on the team. demko is 26 say he plays well till 33 too.. that's 7 years not sure how that is comparable. people keep saying the cap will keep going up so his contract will be irrelevant.. all teams that won cups have veteran players overpaid on the team blah blah blah.. ya.. but not many teams out there won a cup with an overpaid veteran that's making top 2 salary on the team.. regardless of what the salary cap is at. fair to say EP will probably be the only player that have a chance of having a higher cap hit. having an over paid vet by 1 or 2 mil no big deal.. having an overpaid vet by 3-5mil? that's a big deal on top of other slightly or huge overpaid contract we'll likely to have. Guaranteed this team will have other players not living up to their contract.. most likely OEL in 3-4 years.. then we'll have 2 contract overpaid by 3-5mil..
  14. with miller this team finished 4th 7th 5th in the pacific lol.. so what difference does that make? without miller we are guaranteed no better than 4th or 5th when we are already finishing no better than 4th or 5th with miller XD
  15. just coz he plays in all situation doesn't mean he's good in all situation.. he's good offensively.. beyond that he's not that great.. his number defensively in all situation is pretty bad whether it's 5v5 or pk.. he's literally only out there just coz he's good in faceoff not coz he's a great defender.. and how does he hold himself accountable when he frequently gives up on plays and hang his teammate on the ice out to dry? gives up the puck in the offensive zone slowly glides back to the bench makes no attempt to get back in the play and just assume the game is probably over or the other teams going to score? it wasn't just a one time thing.. he have done it probably 10+ times throughout the season.. and multiple times in OT that ended the game to the point where the coach have to talk to him in private.. and he still done it a few more times after that... nothing about that shows me he hold himself accountable just his teammate coz he will yell at them but not at himself.
  16. lol.. that 1.5mil cap space sure as hell will get us the cap space we dreamed about to get a RHD.. if you are moving pearson you are moving him and his entire cap as a dump... not bringing back a 1.5mil well past his prime slow as f 4th liner when u can find those for league minimum.
  17. so you are saying get rid of boeser at al cost? boeser had no value at his 7.5mil QO and it seems the fans here are desperate to get rid of him at all cost trashing him every possible step of the way.. people were ok with ridding boeser 1 for 1 in zacha.. zacha was traded for what? haula? so you'd be happy to get a return like haula? he's an asset that'll help you in another deal?.. people keep throwing out boeser is slow he's useless he doesn't hit he doesn't drive play he's useless 5v5 etc etc etc.. ok if that's the case what team wants him at 7.5mil QO? what team is going to give you value for a player that you are trying to dump literally for cap space? Boeser is literally a cap dump without contract attached
  18. Meh not surprising I’ve always said zib is a direct comparable and prolly get around the same minus a year to match the age when the contract ends
  19. conor garland actually did better during the first quarter of the season when TG was still the coach. if you break down conor's production by the quarters. his first quarter was with TG he scored 15 points. the next 2 season under BB he was at 9 and 8 Garland played up and down the lineup at times sure. but his linemates have been horvat pearson ep podkolzin miller.. any combination of the 5 literally the entire time under boudreau so i dunno if you are implying Garland is struggling coz his linemate sucks.
  20. i actually dont consider garland a difference maker.. he's a player that plays hard each and every night and bring energy to the team. but in terms of being a difference maker i disagree. he has 0 goals and 6 assist in the most important stretch of the canucks season in march.. he got red hot at april when it's a little too late. and if it werent for the month of april.. his season stat wise would have been a disaster... 1/3 of his season total came in 13 games.. the other 2/3 he had like 33 points which was exact same pace as pearson.
  21. Lol we wanted to let BB walk or traded for a bag of picks and all of a sudden he’s now worth a RHD? With how bad and useless people here claims boeser is. Who is giving us a good RHD for boeser? And if garland can net a good RHD it would already be long done.
  22. i am amaze at the amount of people here still b*tching and whining about Pearson's cap hit saying he's not worth this worth that etc etc.. Pearson @ 3mil is terrible with his 34 points plays pk plays heavy.. Mikheyev is a great signing @ 4.75mil with his 32 points after a career year.. baffling
  23. signing to a bridge deal makes plenty of sense. Although his aav for the bridge is low. Signing a short term instead of a long term allows him to maximize his next contract when the salary cap is expected to during 25-26 season when all the escrow are paid off.. top players are paid percentage of the total salary cap.. if he’s offered 10% of the cap now at 8mil.. he’ll easily be offered 10%+ in 3 years instead of locking himself to a 7.5-8mil for 7-8 years he can be easily looking at 10mil+ for 7-8years depending if the league is on track to payoff the escrow.. before you go and say ya he’s not worth 10mil or whatever. 10mil then would be the equivalent of 8mil today. When the cap inflates all the new contract sign after the inflation would reflect that.
