[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

No not really who’s playing with Myers? Rathbone? Hughes? I’m scared just imagining any combination of those pairs. -

Ya I’m not so sure I get that feeling from the management tbh. I’m all for trading him, but I honestly don’t see them trading him even if he’s unsigned if we get to the TDL floating at or around a playoff spot and if team refuse to meet the asking price. -

LA may or may not be a fluke but who knows they could very well be a fluke. But at the same time another team could easily fluke their way into the playoff ie Anaheim. They could very well be last years version of the kings. if we end up being buyers at the TDL.. then this management group is very short sighted.. we don’t necessary need to be a seller and get rid of miller at all cost.. but we should never even be in the discussion for being a buyer.. let alone someone like severson which would likely cost minimum a 1st rounder. This team is in no position to be throwing away asset for rentals to go all in right now coz they simply ain’t there yet.. -

i dunno demko was pretty much rode to the ground last season and u can see he was burnt out in march.. and unless Martin can replicate his unbelievable run last season in the 3 or 4 games.. i pretty much expect the same.. you'll probably see martin in the back to backs.. and that's pretty much about it. i mean it's the same homerism talk every year.. the team outside of mikheyev and kuzmenko who is a question mark really didn't do anything that makes the team significantly better.. edmonton didn't really do much to make their team better.. but campbell isn't really a downgrade vs smith.. and we lost like every single game against oilers and that's with demko standing on his head a lot of the games. i dunno how anyone can say calgary got significantly worse.. they lost their 2 top goal scorer.. and replaced it with 2 forwards with identical ppg + a 40 point defenseman.. so they actually gained like 27 points in terms of production.. LA's gotten a year more experience under them now.. vegas is a wild card depending if they do anything with their goalie situation.. i still see them make a move for varlamov at some point and they'll be right back in there again.. i still see the canucks fighting for the 7-8th wc with an outside chance at 3rd in the pacific.. and that would require 2 of the 4 teams that are in the mix to regress or have a bad season.. -

whether the canucks ends up in a playoff spot or out of a playoff spot hinges on Demko.. and only Demko.. the canucks are #3 in the league in high danger chance save % and we are in the middle of the league in high danger chance against.. all it takes is demko to be average and can't bail the defense out with the amount of high danger chance.. we'd be no where close to sniffing the playoff.. and really it's not really impossible to think it can't happen.. we haven't done anything to improve the defense.. rathbone doesn't move the needle.. and if based on his play in the nhl so far he's probably worse than whoever he replace defensively.. Schenn OEL and Myers only gotten another year older and possibly slower.. Can Schenn continue to keep up playing with hughes? possibly? but also possible he can't? can the 3rd pairing ofr dermott and Rathbone be relied upon to play enough minutes to take the pressure off the top 2 pairings so they dont' all have to play 22 23 mins? no idea.. if we end up missing the playoffs this year.. it wouldn't be because we did or did not trade miller.. it would be because our defense is very questionable and Demko can't bail them out every night to make their stats look better than it is -

I rather start my post off laughing my ass off at some of the suggestions. Better than getting mad pissed off at others or start personal attacking people like some posters here. you can’t just pay a player majority of his salary by ways of bonus. His last 2 years of his contract the total salary bonus + base can’t be less than 60% of his highest if u try to pay him bonus plus salary Why kadri sign that contract? Cause the chance of him actually getting bought out is relatively low? There’s be better candidates like hubs massive 10.5 to buy out before they buy out kadri.. calgary will 100% be rebuilding 5years from now. Their cap hit prolly will be irrelevant. Chances are that’s probably the best deal he had the entire free agency.. otherwise he would have already signed and not waited till there’s like no team left with cap space. Better than waiting to see if Colorado or islander maybe can come up with cap space and end up having to sign a 1 year contract like klingsberg meanwhile 5-6 years from now the canucks might still be in their windows with ep Hughes pods whoever else they get the next 5-6 years around 29-30.. but we should continue our tradition of having dead caps from buy out just for the sake of having dead caps right? We should plan all contracts with the intention of buying them out after 5-6 years even though we signed them to 8 so we can have a dead cap from 4-6 years -

if u are 26+ bought out u get 2/3 of what is owed to u if u are <26 u get 1/3 of what is owed paid. i really doubt miller is looking for 50mil.. if it's 50mil they can easily stretch it anywhere from 7-8 years and the deal would be long done.. and we wouldn't be at the no contract discussion really since pre draft.. at 7mil cap hit its worth the risk. and will drive horvat's asking price down. but i agree with you i doubt the reports are anywhere close to being accurate -

coz if they structure his salary like kadri where his last 2 season he gets paid full salary and 0 bonus.. he only gets paid 2/3 of it? so if he's say making 8mil per.. last 2 years 16mil 2/3 of that is what? 11mil? so make 5mil less? so say instead of getting 8x7 at 56mil he's gonna end up with around 51mil? assuming he's bad enough to be bought out i doubt he'll make that 5mil in 2 years if he were to get another contract -

Lol you think Miller will sign for something under 8 and then have his contract structured so that he can possibly be bought out to make even less?? -

actually there are plenty of players untradeable. as long as they have a nmc or ntc.. it doesn't matter if you offer ever single draft picks players prospect.. he say no? it's not happening lol.. -

lol ya trading bryam makar mackinnon is equivalent of trading 10 1st rounders lol unrealstic delusional price that will never happen.. anyone can be had if u keep making ridiculous impossible proposal lol that's like saying any company can be bought out if you just pay them 2x market value -

lol gretzky was traded because oilers knew he wouldn't re-sign in edmonton.. he got married and lived in LA.. and pretty much clear to management he ain't re-signing to be closer to his wife.. did i say he'll turn fringe player into hall of famers? loui would get a few more goals than he has just by sticking his ass in front of the net and watch it bounce off him without trying.. and i have no idea why you using arizona as an example? i said he'll turn players around him ie guys that plays on the same line into better players.. not carry a team of ahl/echl players and turn them into an nhl team? would u not trade mcdavid for mackinnon makar and byram? no because avalanche will never make that deal and gut their team. and mcdavid isn't lightyears ahead of mackinnon.. and you are talking about stuff that are not realistic.. you are literally talking about trading every single super star on your team for mcdavid.. ya every player have a price.. just a unrealistic one that would never ever ever ever ever ever be met.. might as well say i'll trade the entire team for mcdavid -

wai_lai416 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
lol so whats the right price for mcdavid? the next 10 1st rounders? if we had mcdavid and someone offered me their next 10 1st rounder picks i'd probably pass on it.. mcdavid is like equivalent of 2 star players + he turns the fringe players you put around him into legit nhl players or turns borderline stars into a legitimate stars in the league.. that alone is already worth more than 10 1st rounders -

lol the most you'd get out of Miller is a first and some prospect.. they ain't giving u morrows or necas for maybe a round or 2 of miller -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
wai_lai416 replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
lol.. schenn is definitely not a comparable.. how the hell do you guys compare contract from 3 years ago and use those numbers as comparable?? the cap would have gone up by 3-4mil since schenn signed his contract.. players and agents use % of the cap they occupied when they sign the contract as comparable.. not whatever numbers they signed for.. if you are comparing contracts from 3-4 years ago.. you might as well compare contracts from 5-6 years ago and say they are comparables. landeskog contract is prolly more reasonable.. even though landeskog is the superior player.. but he literally took a massive hometown discount on a team that's at the cupse of winning a cup and they did that year.. he's probably worth 8-8.5 easy on the open market. i see horvat probably in the 7.5mil in the market and signing for 7mil on the canucks. -

When have playing hard balling against players worked? Rfa ends up sitting out and teams always balk first. players usually are the ones that’ll refuse contract talks during the season. Any deals that work for Vancouver will be in the sub 8s and sub 6 years. Even if he have a down season back to 75-80 points.. he’ll prolly still be able to get a sub 8 6 years from any team. There’s really not much risk unless he have a career ending injury.. -

not really for calgary their windows is likely closing in the next couple of years markstrom is 32 tanev is 32 in 3-4 years lindholm would be 31 32 mangiapane is 30+.. most their core players are at the end if not past their primes by then.. they'll be rebuilding shortly after so paying 10.5mil go huberdeau while rebuilding doesn't really hurt them that much. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
wai_lai416 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
lol no and that deal will be rejected by the NHL lol there can't be more than 25% difference in salary in adjacent years nor can the lowest salary year be less than 60% of the highest.. and no way in hell he would take 8x6.. he's going to be asking in the 9+ if you are offering him max 6 -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
wai_lai416 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
offering him a contract significantly lower than anyone else even comparable is straight up disrespectful unless he clearly said he's willing to take a significant discount. 6.875 x 8 lmao why wouldn't he just look for a 8mil x 7 somewhere and then retire a year early or sign another contract if he wants to continue or go back home and still end up making more? or even get a 9mil x 6 and retire by 36? instead of grinding it out till 38 well past his prime? -

wai_lai416 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
so filip forsberg whos going to be 29 at the start of his contract is not comparable? he got 8 years.. zibanejid is also 29 at the start of his contract and got 8 years so Miller who's going to be 30 instead of 29 getting and asking for a 7 year contract is not comparable? his agent is going to look at huberdeau and say he's not comparable he's going to say calgary was desperate? if Huberdeau got 10.5mil JG got 9.75mil all on a max contract you think Millers agent going to be like ya sure i'll take the lowest of the comparables out there.. and also the shortest term? he's either going to be looking at max money 9+ at 6 years or lowest comparable money 8.5 at max terms 7-8 years. -

Doubt that anything canucks can offer any team can match easy. There’s always team desperate for big name players. Who woulda thought Columbus going out to sign JG? Someone will offer the 9+ to miller barring he doesn’t regress this season -
[Signing] Flames re-sign Jonathan Huberdeau
wai_lai416 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Waited too long to make a trade imo waited too long to re-sign.. I don’t see any scenario JT re-signs in Vancouver for anything less than 9 or less than 7 years now that hub signing that starts at 30 will be used as a benchmark for Miller. He’s not going to get 10.5 but he ain’t going to be looking for less than 9 on a max 8 or 9.5 on a 7.. we keep hearing who will pay those contracts? Every year there’s a team that’ll pay those contracts. Next year will be no difference. teams that originally might trade for miller would possible intent to re-sign him.. prolly lowers their offer even more now that they prolly unlikely to re-sign him at the projected number thx to hub contract. -

Lmao Johnny left 15+mil to get out of Calgary?? You dumb?? 10.5 in Calgary is only 200k more than 9.75 in Columbus.. factoring the tax in the bonus year.. he left 6.8mil to leave Calgary… where’s the 15+? 9mil to 7.5mil is peanuts? So next you going to say 6 to 7.5 mil is peanuts then why isn’t everyone in the league signing for 1.5-2mil less? There are plenty of players in this league that love the city they are in. Mackinnon is going to re-sign at the same cap hit he has now too right? He loves his city just won a cup and said he’d sign for less. -

so eer who did they lose in depth? baertschi? sure they lost pac.. but he didn't even stay healthy enough to play last season so no lost there.. no reason to assume eichel isn't fully recovered from the surgery and stone isn't recovered from his "back injury" that magically allowed Eichel to play. and they are still sitting at a little over 5mil in cap space to sign their 2 rfa and whatever depth to fill out their roster.. until the canucks can prove they can beat teams that made the playoffs.. they are just as overrated.. 13 wins in 5 months under bruce against the top 8 teams in each conference.
