[Discussion] Projecting Pacific Division 2022/23 Final Finish
wai_lai416 replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Canucks Talk
lol just like everyone here is overrating vancouver have them literally anywhere from 1-3? we gotten more depth in forwards and hopefully improved pk.. but we never addressed the D problem at all and once again will rely on Demko to bail out the defensive mistake.. the 3rd pairing on defense will be an adventure assuming it's going to be rathbone with dermott/burrough to start the season.. rathbone looked completely lost out there last season in the nhl.. and dermott/burrough isn't exactly much better... if demko is just average and not standing on his head.. we could be in for a long season. not sure why everyone is saying vegas is overrated.. if they can play 82 games season with 2/3 of a roster and still finish ahead of us in the standings.. reilly missed 1/3 of the season stone missed half the season eichel missed half the season lehner missed half the season karlsson missed 1/4 of the season pac missed 1/2 the season martinez missed 3/4 of the season those are literally all core players.. and all of them are back healthy minus pac.. i'm sure those players makes a huge impact to any team.. if the canucks have an injury list like that last season? we prolly finish worse than montreal. -

lol everyone is just writing and hoping vegas falls off the map.. that team literally was missing 1/3 of their entire lineup at all point the entire season and still finished ahead of the canucks. -
sure but based on where the canucks are drafting and how long it takes to develop. the young core players will prolly be at the end of their primes most likely before any of the D we draft comes to tuition.. actually i have no confidence in this team developing defenseman.. like who was the last defenseman this team have developed thru their minor league system that even made a dent in the NHL? Bieska? our minor league development have been absolutely trash forever now.. outside of goalies.. the AHL haven't developed anything at all.. the players that have been succeeding on the big club all came NHL ready and skipped the AHL.. probably a good thing.. the AHL seems to care more about winning than actually developing players from the few games ive watched in abby

lol what young guy do we have that needs the playoff experience?? it's literally just podz and maybe hoglander if he's even in the lineup.. the rest of the team have their playoff experience and the newer guys had theirs in the playin round + 2 more rounds.. it's not like this is a 0 experience team with hardly any playoff experience.. -

players bet on themselves if they are young and think they can improve.. players ain't really going to bet on themselves when they are nearing usually what is the end of their prime for most players.. when you are 25-28 u can prolly bet on urself on a 1 year and sign that next big contract at 29.. if you are 31?? doubt he wants to be betting on himself.. since historically no one is going to give u a long term big contract.. look at kadri out there.. he's still floating waiting for that big contract 1month into UFA.. i doubt he was *waiting* for colorado.. it's simply no one is willing to offer him the terms he wanted. Miller will be 31 if he signs a 1 year contract.. u really think he's going to be like ya i'll sign 1 year for 9.5mil and then 5 years at 8mil? with 0 guarantees?? players bet on themselves and get injured it's possible.. but if you are 25-26 27 you still have time to play urself into a big contract.. at 30+? unlikely -
Fuse any two Canucks! (and send them through time!)
wai_lai416 replied to Baratheon's topic in Canucks Talk
I’ll take bure with brashear.. bure speed and brashear body anyone he hits will be sent flying across the ice and prolly no one would dare to retaliate since he will get the living daylight beat out of him.. so he’ll prolly have a straight path to the net unimpeded -
u cant seperate it by 5v5 vs powerplay so it's really not a good indication because Miller played double the penalty kill mins vs horvat. that alone with skew the chart.. mainly it's the 5v5 that's of concern unless there's a way to seperate it
-
i'm no longer subscribed so i don't have access to the QoC anymore.. and just by starring at the defensive zone starts.. it's not really hard to see Horvat will usually be up against the other teams top line.. if you have an offensive zone draw.. are you going to put your 2nd 3rd or 4th line on there if your top line is rested? obviously not.. so i dunno how you come to the conclusion EP and Miller plays against the top lines while Horvat plays against the lesser competition.. the only time Miller or EP plays against top lines is if the coach likes the particular matchup or the team changes on the fly to put their top line vs EP or Miller because they think they have the advantage. Miller also owns the worse save % when he's on the ice of any player on this team.. well there's 5 players below him.. but they combined for 23 games between them.. so they don't really count all the linemates he played with are all significantly higher as for metrics.. i dunno it's really hard to just look at the metrics and say well that player must have hit his ceiling.. i mean how do you expect 1 to raise his metrics if hes constantly being put in positions that won't let him improve on the metric? i never thought of bo to be the match up guy taking most of the defensive draws when he was drafted. but he's been slowly groomed into that role because the canucks don't have a better option.
-
bo isn't by any mean a great defensive center.. but he's been played like one majority of the time under green and boudreau.. coz simply there's no one else better.. and like i've said at 27 Miller got the opportunity to be a top line guy playing with EP and Boeser.. Horvat never gotten that opportunity really to play on the top line with the more offensively gifted player.. hypothetical if Bo spent the entire year playing with a healthy EP and boeser.. u don't think he can get maybe 5-10 more goals 10-15 more assist? between EP and boeser that's what? 30 more goals ev right there.. u don't think he would have at least assisted on 1/3-1/2 of them? and if they have a healthy EP feeding him the puck u don't think he can squeeze out 5-10 more goals vs playing with guys that doesn't really have much playmaking ability or finishing ability. based on what we have seen.. horvat definitely have the capability to score 35-40.. he hit 31 this year in 70 games.. and that's mostly playing with 0 playmakers that gets him the puck in scoring position.. whether he have the playmaking ability? i have no idea he did in jrs before drafted but he never really had the chance in the NHL with anyone capable of finishing so i've no idea.. again with the horvat have maxed out and peaked.. so everyone in the league usually continues to get better till 29-30.... horvat is the exception he already maxed out well before that?? and Miller is also the other exception he'll continue to get better well past 30? you guys seriously only likes to see what you want to see.. his goals total have been slowly increasing each year so i have no idea where the he have already peaked is coming from.. unless you are looking at point total only.. goals is a lot harder than assist.. only 1 guy gets credit for goals while there's 2 guy that can get credited for assist.
-
lol because pointless 4th and 5th place vote that's all over the map is so important right when only 1st place matters.. because he's so good defensively all his defensive numbers are in the reds in the chart above.. must be his teammate that's causing him to be bad and reasons why Miller have more PK time than horvat?? because Green never used horvat as a penalty killer.. look at all his previous season penalty kill minutes.. it doesn't even break 30mins.. because he saves him for most of the 5v5 mins against other teams top line.. Bo have never really been the go to PK guy on the team.. he was forced into that role with injuries to dickinson and so on.. he used to be more of a win the faceoff clear the puck change center guy.. horvat's penalty kill minutes only started to spike up after boudreau took over.. but you prolly too blind and don't notice his situational usage.. bo horvat even strength gave up 48 goals against when he's on the ice against mostly other teams top line and the most defensive start of any forward.. Miller even strength gave up 61 goals against and he doesn't match up against other teams top line most of the time.. 48 goals against top lines vs 61 goals against mostly other lines in less defensive zone starts.. you have to be pretty blind to see whos better defensively.. whatever i don't even care you probably going to argue and say no miller play against the top line of other teams even when it's not true. bo doesn't play as much PK mins therefore he must suck.. they don't care about those stats.. all they care about is Miller scores more points therefore he is a better defensive player when really he's one of the worse defensive player in the top 6 other than faceoff.. his defensive effort have been atrocous.. if you watch his play in the defensive zone if and when he decides to go back he doesn't pressure the puck at all.. bo plays against the mcdavids mackinnons of the world 5v5 whenever possible.. Miller plays against everyone else.. somehow bo manage to give up less high danger chance and less goals against when he's on the ice than miller but somehow Miller is the superior defensive center giving up more chances and more goals against other teams 2/3/4th line
-
lol no one is comparing bo bergeron.. just using it as an example because clearly you value production over defensive ability when determining if a player is better or not and where they play in the team/role to determine who's better.. you using a 1c 2c 3c 4c designation as who's a better player discredit your entire post. is bo better than miller is right now? no is bo better than miller is at the same age? yes up until the age of 27 when Miller got the opportunity to play on the top line is bo the better scorer than miller? yes literally every season except 1 in the league is bo better defensively than miller? yes it's not even close if bo was given the same opportunity as Miller at 27 to play on the top line in all offensive situation could he get better? don't see why not since most 2/3 of his goals and most of his assist came 5v5 in a defensive role. will bo be given that opportunity? no because there's no one on this team will put up 30+ goals as a defensive center.. maybe except EP but he's far superior in offense
-
lol Patrice Bergeron doesn't have great offensive numbers.. over ppg once and only a .75ppg career.. he did win the selke 5 times though.. does that make him a inferior player? so if they put horvat as the 1c on the top line and miller or EP on the 2c as the defensive center.. does that automatically make Bo superior because he's branded as 1c? fwiw EP is technically the 3c then.. what line you play on doesn't mean s*it in terms of whos better or whos not.. if that's the case Pearson is our #1 LW coz he played on the top line? Bo may or may not be better than Miller.. but it's pretty obvious Bo is a better goal scorer than Miller... he has more goals than Miller in 2 less season in the league.. and out pace him in goals every season of the same age.. like ive said if given the right situation it's not ridiculous to think bo can't hit 40 goals 40 assist playing in an offensive role with offensive players compared to what he is playing now.. and if he ends up 40/40.. does that make him better than Miller? we will never know what Horvat can or will become because it's unlikely he'll ever get the chance to be the top line center on the team because of his defensive plays.. very rare your best defensive center plays on the top line with the best offensive players..
-
i agree with most of what you said but i disagree with JT and EP often played together.. they rarely played together 5v5 last season since november they are often on seperate lines and EP often got the short end of the stick in terms of linemates JT linemates boeser pearson garland podkolzin and the rare occasion EP EP linemates hoglander garland podkolzin lammiko highmore motte petan dickinson bailey dowling and end of season boeser and the rare occasion horvat bo will never make that big step to match JT's trajectory because he'll never be given the opportunity.. before JT was thrown into the top line role with the canucks.. his season stats ppg etc were all below Horvat at the exact same age.. and then at 27 he was thrown into a top line role and started to take off.. if we take Horvat off the defensive center role and toss him into a top line role i'm sure he can at the very least be a ppg guy.. he outscored miller in goals.. i'm sure he can close the gap in assist if he's playing with high offensive skill players with mostly offensive zone times.. whether he can be a 100point guy? who knows maybe maybe not.. but he is a superior goal scorer to Miller.. maybe he won't hit 100 points.. but not impossible he hits 40 goals.. if he can get 31 goals in a 2nd line role mostly 5v5 defensive zone starts.. i'm sure he can hit 40+ with offensive playmakers ie EP with mostly offensive zone starts.. that however will unlikely to happen because the canucks simply don't have a center that's capable of being the go to guy in the defensive zone. EP is better than Horvat defensively imo but Bo is so much more superior in faceoff and EP offensive skill is unmatched on the team so there's really no point of forcing and turning him into the defensive center.. better off letting EP be the offensive juggernaut that can be defensively responsible

Lol salary isn’t based on just pure points.. but according to you defensive aspect of the game shouldn’t have value. Therefore no defensive players should be paid in this league. All the players that are forced to play the defensive roles in the league should all tell their coach they only want to play in the offensive zone since they are screwing them over in their earning ability? if nhl salary is based purely on points only the JT should be paid in the 9s and closer to 10mil then right? -

he was never given a fair chance to excel on the offensive side of his game because the team is so reliant on him to be the guy in defensive situation.. he's often given players that excels in the defensive side of the game as his linemates.. but there's no point explaining it to ppl like sam who's hellbent on a mission to discredit Bo for all the things he does and crediting all his offence to Miller. "over 50% of his goals are from miller's stick" and he's been basically out pacing and producing miller at the same age every year in a 2nd liner defensive role until miller got the opportunity to play on a top line at 27.. i don't think it's too unreasonable to think if Horvat was put on a top line role he wouldn't match or once again out produce Miller at the same age.. but he'll never get that opportunity just because the team needs him in that go to defensive guy role.. according to them.. horvat have already peaked at 27 and can't get better while Miller started to get better and better from 27-29 and will continue to get better into his 30s.. these guys are hilarious.. players they love will defy the majority of players trend slowly decline after 30.. and players they hate will already be past their peak at 27. -

Should bo play heavier maybe. So if it’s not in a player to play hard and smash every player thru the boards therefore they are bad captains or players? There are players literally paid to do those type of things. Would you be saying the same thing if bo decides to stand up for his teammate fights a guy breaks his hand doing it out for the rest of the season or playoffs. Some ppl after whistle scrums it is what it is. So does it mean if he’s not the captain you guys wouldn’t care? He’ll never sign in the low 6 lol cdc likes to overvalue ever single player on the team when it comes to trade value.. but when it comes to contract they will offer the absolute lowest below market possible and will call them useless and can’t compare to others. -

He assisted on Horvat 11 times. Unless I’m failing math here 11/31 is not over 50%. Horvat literally had no time to prove he is better or as good as miller. He was literally playing behind the sedin in a defensive role his entire career. He was never ever put in an offensive role on this team. Just because he’s not put in one it automatically means he’s not capable? Random joe blow in the league can consistently stick in 20-30 goals every season right? -

Lol 7mil for a 30-35 goal scorer top 5 face off guy? Lol 7 mil is not a bad number. He’s only getting 50-60 points coz he doesn’t get to play in an offensive role.. u mean if he play the entire season with say EP and Boeser on his wing in an offensive role he won’t maybe another 5-10 goals playing with an actual playmaker like EP rather than the wingers he played with that have no playmaking ability? Or 20-30more assist in an 82 game season if he’s playing with better goal finisher? If u stick miller in Horvat role with the same line mates u think he’s gonna hit anywhere close to 100 point? He’s prolly gonna end up in the 50-60 point range too. I don’t think Horvat will hit the 100 point mark. But if you put him in millers situation he’d be a lot better than 50-60 points -

why because defense wins championship in the playoff? it's also funny you mention Bo have already given us his best.. ok so Bo being 26 have already peaked.. but Miller at 29 will continue to get better?? why do we have to replace what horvat brings to the team? so who's taking all those big defensive draw? who's playing against other teams top line? who's going to provide you the 30+ goals in a defensive role? Miller? the guy that doesn't really play defense? or we going to take EP and put him in a defensive role? bo literally had a career year in goal with 31 goals in 70 games at 26 in a 2nd line defensive role vs Miller 26 goals in 82 games at 26 in a first line offensive role.. but Bo apparently is not allowed to get any better.. i he remained healthy for the last 12 games.. he prolly hit 35 goals.. is miller hitting those numbers in a defensive role? possible but he'll be giving up god knows how many goals against other teams top line since he won't be coming back to the defensive zone anytime soon. funniest comment i've read the past couple weeks.. trade bo for dubois who literally pretty much guaranteed he won't play for any other team as long as montreal offers him a contract in ufa -

lol how is that not working for him player value wise? he's getting 8mil + for a guy that have never been a ppg guy in his career.. he's like a 0.75 points per game guy at best.. with 2 30 goal season in his career.. his stats are literally identical to horvat.. if anything he's overpaid.. if hertl is getting 8.2?? horvat should be pointing to that as comparables -

what part of dubois is a top 10 faceoff guy?? he's like a 44% career faceoff % guy.. he takes even less faceoff that JT miller.. and what part of him is a 30+ goal guy? he fits none of the category.. and let's just for whatever reason imagine he is.. you think players like those makes it to UFA if there isn't a specific team they will only go to like tavares? or dubois and montreal?
