[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
wai_lai416 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
did edmonton go on an improbable run? not really they started the year strong and then went thru a terrible slump in the middle and went back to their beginning of the season form after the coaching change.. i wouldn't call it improbable if they done it multiple times.. the team was winning games.. against bottom feeders. we are barely .500 against teams that ended up in the playoff.. how many teams in the pacific went thru a dramatic change other than calgary? LA added basically fiala. Vegas did pretty much nothing. Calgary lost offense but their defense is incredibly strong with or without weegar. we basically have a completely new 4th line 2 new top 6/9 wingers and a completely new bottom 6 defensive pairing. other than calgary we gone thru the most changes.. newly acquired players if it doesn't work out for other team it's 1 player.. we have 4 or 5. -

lol if we didn't go on that improbable winning streak with the coaching bump and played the way we did the rest of the way.. we still end up missing the playoff by 10-12 points.... and you think all the guys we brought in will for sure 100% gel with each other? just like last year and the years before right? how many UFA we brought in years after years? and how many of them fail or took a long time before working? almost all of them. 5v5 goals against was among the best because of demko.. he's well above the expected saved % of whatever it's call.. he also fell back to earth starting in march when he's burnt out. when other teams starting to score a lot more exposing the defense that was masked by Demko's brilliant.. and we have done absolutely nothing to address the defense. vegas is falling apart?? vegas barring injuries again.. will prolly end up at the top of the division.. they literally never played with a full roster the entire season and their LTIR crap.. Kings added fiala and young to replace the dinosaur dustin brown edmonton is edmonton.. they'll prolly be outscoring their problems and have a slight improvement in net.. calgary lost JG and MT.. but they got Hub who's just as good as JG and better than MT atm.. plus weegar.. under sutter.. they'll probably be a defensive juggernaut and markstrom will have like vezina like numbers likely behind that defense.. it's not inconceivable central will have like 5 teams again and the canucks will have to be top 3 in the pacific to have a chance.. it's far from guaranteed they are better than 3 of the 4 teams.. if the team played the way they have since january after that improbable streak for the entire season?? we might have been tied for the 7th or 8th spot.. with no changes to the defense.. expect demko to be played to the ground and be worn out before the season ends.. not because of how many games he play but how much he's relied on per game. -

there's a huge difference between weegar/hub vs Tkatchuk.. let's just say calgary is able to keep them.. and let's just say they all get to 31 before starting to decline.. u get 2 years of prime hub 3 years of prime weegar.. vs let say tkatchuk also starts declining at 31.. that's 7 years of prime out of tkatchuk.. 7 prime years vs 5.. not to mention hub and weegar both would be looking for a massive payday on their final contract that more than likely would be similar to Miller age horribily if signed to 6-7+ years.. if chucky is a 90ish point player for the remainder of the 8 years.. it's well worth even if he doesn't break 100+ again.. i dunno if u can say the same about hub/miller when they are 32 33 34 35 36 making 8+ in the 50-70 point range. if there's a 24 year old rfa in the 90-100+ point range that is not chucky? i'm sure the canucks would easily be exploring moving Miller 1st rathbone and something equivalent to weegar for if they can get him to sign for 8 years. -
trade partner for Miller is dwindling down to the last few.. at this point i doubt anything will happen with Miller or anyone on the roster for that matter.. anyone that thinks moving myers for klingsberg is a good idea u clearly haven't watch klingsberg defensively the last couple season lol.. Myer prolly moved only if a Miller or Garland or whomever trade brings back a top 4 rhd.. the options for RHD in ufa are terrible.

lol i don't think myers is going anywhere.. there's literally nothing left in the market for a replacement.. i doubt klingsberg signs for 6mil.. nor do i really want him.. the guys been a defensive diaster the past couple years.. he was -28 last season.. the next closest defenseman is -4.. PK Subban easy pass.. and i doubt we getting a defenseman back in a trade with myers so we'll need to make a secondary trade which i don't see any pieces we have can get a RHD back if Miller can't get a RHD.. i would totally not be surprise if Miller isn't traded then we are done for the summer and will have to wait till other teams get hit with injury bugs and do a panic move before we do anything.. -

lol so if u think if they have a off season they are going to worth less than a 1st rounder minimum and prospects on top.. then isn't it more than reason to trade Miller now then? if he has an off season then he won't be worth as much.. i think too many people here are looking at the trades with a flame hating blinders on. Getting one of the top LW in the league if not the best the last 3-4+ seasons, a legit top 4 RHD.. a prospect and a 1st for a RFA that doesn't want to be there? that is a massive haul.. even if Weegar and Hub won't re-sign.. they'll end up with 3 1st and couple prospect.. 1st rounder not guaranteed anything.. but that's a massive kick start to their rebuild.. if hub and weegar leaves they are definitely rebuilding... they can probably go the rangers route mortgage off all their assets and have crazy amount of 1st rounders the next couple draft.. -

even if huberdeau doesn't reach 100+ points this season.. he will go for a 1st + prospect for sure at the TDL.. the guy have been well over a ppg for the last 4 years.. even a declining giroux got more than that.. if he re-signs they get a great player.. unless u think he's all of a sudden going to go from a ppg game to a 50-60 point guy out of no where. Weegar is a RHD and a legit top 4 defenseman.. RHD that every team would want.. again unless they are injured or disappear off the face of the earth.. they are pretty much guaranteed to net u a 1st each + more if they are to be traded and not re-signed. -

Dunno how u can say it’s far from a guaranteed haul. 2 expiring player yes. But even if they don’t re-sign and Calgary not stupid and holds on to them and let them walk. Those 2 will guarantees them multiple 1st plus prospect at the TDL. Hub along will be worth as much as Miller as a rental at the deadline -

lol 9.5 in florida is literally 10mil in calgary and anywhere in canada.. florida tax played a role -
U literally said every single one of Gillis picks. So picking nhl players to play for another team while getting nothing for return is a plus for benning? Ok. He drafted 1 player with his late 1st that the fans want to run out of town and probably still want to dump in a trade right now. Where are all his late pick success outside of Demko? I don’t see any. Everyone of them is all hype. Until they become a regular they are exactly what they are prospects. But u know every single prospect of ours are apparent superstar in the making. Rathbone is the next Hughes despite looking lost in the nhl in his limited game last season. Karlsson broke EP shl record therefore he’s gonna be just as good. u want to compare Gillis and benning drafting? Ok benning avg 2nd round picks are in the mid 50s benning avg 2nd round picks are in the early 30s prolly. Less than 25% of 2nd rounder makes it to the nhl and majority of them are early 2nd. Less than 5% makes it in the 50+. gillis draft record is not great but stick any gm in there prolly not much difference based on where they were picking. Benning drafting people love to praise but really his drafting record is atrocious based on where he was picking on average in the first 2 rounds
-
Coz other than Demko non of those picks have an impact on the team? Well boeser… everyone else? 0 impact got nothing back that benefited or made a difference on the team just like all of Gillis picks? No benefit no impact… hoglander is more than likely going to be traded for a draft pick. There’s simply no room for him in the top 9 as it stands and Bruce is not a fan of him so he’s unlikely to crack the top 6. You keep praising benning for his draft but fail to recognize Vancouver overall drafting records for missing 8 years of playoffs finishing bottom 3-5 numerous time is pretty sad for how many nhl regulars they produced that is on the team and how bare the prospect pool is. pretty sure Horvat is a Gillis pick.. pretty sure he has more points than all of bennings pick outside the top 10 combined
-
Other than Demko ppl wanted to let brock walk hoglander prolly gets traded McCann doesn’t even play for the team.. hitting on those doesn’t negate the fact he missed hard and virtanen and juolevi both ended up with absolutely nothing. If he didn’t go off the board with virtanen and juolevi we might have been at the playoff contender stage closer to a cup contender stage rather than still in the trying to make the playoff stage
-
Sry I still fail to see how u can compare gm drafting records when 1 is consistently drafting in the late 1st or no 1st to one consistently drafting in the top 10 years after years after years. A top 10 pick even spinning the wheels you’ll probably end up with someone that’ll be ok-decent. Benning drafting record outside the 1st round other than Demko in the 2nd round most if not all have been non existent even though you guys tried to pump the players thru the roof. Hoglander maybe will turn out decent but looking more and more like there isn’t even a spot in the lineup for him. U failed to mention the 2 big whiff at 5th and 6th overall and McCann. Don’t think any gm in the history of the canucks have failed that miserably at high 1st rounders. if Gillis in his tenure had as much top 10 picks I’m sure blindfolded he prolly woulda hit on a few

seems the way to go to keep young americans on a canadian team.. give them the huge long term contract out of ELC.. they haven't made any money yet.. so they'll probably jump at the money.. if u give them a bridge out of ELC.. most of them ends up leaving it seems once rfa runs out. -

dunno how u can find any solace.. all of them minus pulj can and will recoup good assets if they were to move.. Juolevi u can't even get anything for since he's on waiver for free nowadays. -

no one is comparing the type of player they are. i'm just saying kyrou for all we know could have a career year and then come back to earth the next year. -

Lol 7x7 to get Myers.. so um who offered remotely close to 7x7 for Myers? Obviously no one. More like agents are floating numbers out there to get more for their client.. also going back to my previous quote.. Myers grew up in Canada and holds a Canadian citizenship.. he literally have no roots in US despite being born there and he represents Canada on the national team.. so he doesn’t even fit the American player signing during his prime on a Canadian team.. other than being in us soil when born.. he’s pretty much a Canadian -

Not many in the elite catergory. Ryan miller signed at the tail end of his career here.. kesler bolted as soon as the team trended downward. when did Nate Schmidt sign in Canada?? connor case is probably different.. he had 2 season under his belt when he signed the massive 50mil contract.. hard to say no to a 50mil contract when u ain’t really established in the nhl.. 7mil x7 was a massive gamble at the time for a 60 point guy. Myer we over paid over term to get him here.. point is most American especially the elites would rather pick American city over Canada. That’s fact. Unless u want to over pay or give too much terms then ya u can prolly get a few to come here. your list basically the only one that would be in the elite category is wheeler and Kesler that fit the criteria signed here while in their prime unless u gamble on an American kid with a massive long term contract.. most that approached ufa from rfa ended up leaving and if u lock them up early. They still have 1 more chance at a massive contract at the end around 28/29 years old and prolly ends up leaving. there really ain’t that many great American players on Canadian teams in their prime in the past 20 years kesler wheeler byf connor foglino kessel heck before Johnny and MT the best American on the flames is like David moss -

there are little evidence to suggest miller will prolly sign an extension with the team that trades for him. chances are he'd prolly prefer to be traded out east or signs with a team closer to PA if he leaves vancouver.. no one knows what Miller is thinking.. Any team that will be interested in trading for MT will be asking for permission to talk to his agent first... unless MT comes out and say i'll only sign with St.Louis or Ottawa.. i'm sure there'd be lots of interested team and will talk to their agent first to see if he would be willing to re-sign.. trading for calgary makes more sense then waiting him out in UFA as he would be able to re-sign with calgary for 8 years in a sign and trade, which would also be good in driving down the AAV -

st louis will need to include a lot more to dump krug who i doubt would even waive to go to calgary. would u take the 4-5 years of krug cap dump a late 1st and just kyrou for Miller? Kyrou had 1 great season.. no one even knows if it was a fluke or he will be a consistent PPG player.. everyone thought boeser was the next great canucks after his rookie season.. and he's been up and down since. kyrou and a 1st calgary might consider.. if they are dumping krug to them? they better include a lot more like another 1st or some A B grade prospect. -

sure kyrou is a very good piece.. but it was really his 1st season he hit those numbers.. who knows if it was a fluke season when everything is bouncing his way. Boeser had a great rookie season and everyone wants to run him out of town since.. kyrou and the 1st is a start for sure.. krug? they don't really need krug and his contract may or may not age well with all the NTC MNTC in it.. and doubt he would even consider waiving to go to calgary a team prolly trending downward. -

prolly coz krug is old with a decent size cap hit signed till 35-36 and they don't really need a defenseman.. the 1st will be a really late first..
