  1. I know there have been rumours, but is bringing Tryamkin back a legitimate possibility? Doesn't Myers kind of fill a similar role?
  2. Back after a long hiatus and glad to see this thread is still going.
  3. Whether we need him or not, we probably won't have him for the next 2-4 games. At least he'll be rested for the playoffs.
  4. Hopefully he won't suck as much as a GM as he did as a Canucks player.
  5. I don't think Ehlers will be as much of a project as people think. Kid got up to speed in the CHL darn fast.
  6. They got down to the bedrock. And then they started blasting.
  7. "We need to get younger, faster and stronger. This is why i signed the Sedins to 4 year extensions at $7 million each. This is ehy i have most of our core tied up in ridiculous contracts with no trade clauses."
  8. Torts is our worst coach since Keenan.
  9. The 80's Oilers had a little more firepower than the 2014 Isles, who are missing their best player no less.
  10. This is what we get for hiring Dan Cloutier as a goaltending consultant.
  11. McLean in '94 was amazing. Stealing Game 1 in New York? Awesome.
  12. The stupid thing about this is if the Canucks had been willing to eat some salary before, they would have got a better return for Luongo, and we would still have Schneider as our starter and Lack as our backup. Instead we have a rookie starter and an AHL backup, and little to show for it in return. You can say what you want about our goaltending coaches, but not having an experienced tender around to mentor Lack is a bad situation.
  13. They are all wondering what city they are going to be in tomorrow.
  14. Except it's not. We may get hit with a steep cap recapture penalty if Luongo retires early.
  15. The cap space problem only exists because of many foolish decisions by Gillis. If this is a "win", it's a Pyhrrhic victory.
  16. The players he acquired aren't that young. They are basically once-promising prospects who have not fulfilled their potential and probably never will.
  17. Matthias is a UFA? So we just traded a future hall of famer for an AHL goalie?
  18. After trading Schneids, I would have thought they would have they would have at least had the sense to keep Lou around long enough to do some mentoring, but no. Now our starter is a rookie with 9 wins, and our backup is an AHL goalie.
  19. It might have been a well-reasoned decision, but it wasn't well thought out, because it didn't take into account the emotional factor. Reason only gets you so far in life, and in sports in particular. A well-reasoned approach will win you games, but to win championships, you need passion and desire as well. And a huge part of coaching is managing that emotional dimension. If Torts is ignoring that dimension, that is hugely problematic.
  20. It's ironic that Torts would get pissed at anyone for saying something controversial but true.
  21. If he didn't appreciate that risk, then he should be coaching Pee Wee hockey, not at the NHL level.
  22. I am the farthest thing from a Lou fanboy, but I have to agree with OP. Another stupid and classless move from an increasingly stupid and classless organization. Through their own sheer incompetence, ownership, management and the coaching staff subjected this franchise to a year and a half long goaltending controversy that undermined the team and divided fans. We had finally resolved it and moved on. Rather than showing they have learned their lesson, the Canucks organization decide to show they don't have an ounce of common sense nor a shred of respect for their player or their fans, because they have once again, eyes wide open, ignited another goaltending controversy. It was pretty clear to anyone paying attention that Lou really wanted to play in the Heritage Classic. It was also pretty clear to anyone paying attention that Lack was nervous about the possibility of playing in front of 50,000 fans. This game was no more important than any other in the standings, but obviously had some special significance for the players, especially Lou. Considering that have him signed for the next decade, and that management made the decision to keep him instead of Schneids, and bent over backwards to assure him he is a valued part of this organization, you would think they would have some interest in trying to keep him motivated and keep his confidence up. If so, you thought wrong. Starting Lack in this game was a no-win situation. If Lack plays well, it fans the flames of controversy. If he plays poorly, then you have what happened last night. You can argue about Lack giving them a better chance to win and get into the playoffs, but at the end of the day, he is a rookie with 9 wins, he can't play every game, Luongo hasn't played an NHL game in weeks, and you probably don't want your veteran starter to be cold heading down the stretch. There was just no level on which the decision to start Lack made sense. The worst part of this whole thing is that goaltending is not even our problem area. It is our strong point. We can feud all we want over who would be the better starter, but neither one of them is costing us games. We are losing because our forwards can't put the puck in the net. Rather than exploit our goaltending tandem as a strong point, Canucks management has again turned it into a vulnerability. Well played.
