What makes you think Guenther has bust potential? In the rough top 10 I feel as he has one of the lower bust potentials of the lot. Beniers, McTavish, and Guenther all have high floors in my opinion. They all play solid 2 way games and think the game at a high level. Worst case scenario for these players seems like a middle 6, and I have Beniers and Guenther with first line ceilings. Guenther isn't going to drive his line single handledly, but he is an excellent complimentary player because of how well he thinks the game.

Benning on Sportsnet 650 with Halford & Brough - June 24, 2021
MeanSeanBean replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Canucks Talk
I was having a discussion with my buddy the other day about the Canucks D. I thought Myers was our best most consistent D man last year. He thought Myers was our worst. I could not understand where he was coming from at all. Myers, while overpaid, was solid last year. -

Stanley Cup Playoffs: Winning team isn't best team
MeanSeanBean replied to LeafsFanDan's topic in General Hockey Discussion
That is entirely incorrectly. I know it's hard for leafs fans to understand, but just because leafs fans and the Toronto based media say something, doesn't make it fact. Your post reads like a massive whiner. Montreal was the better team, you lost. It happens to every team except one every year. Take a shot and get over it, Dan. -

[Rumour] Jake Debrusk done in Boston?
MeanSeanBean replied to 48MPHSlapShot's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Entirely agree. It absolutely pains me to say but Jake is done here. I have spent years defending his play on ice. I always felt there was a solid player that needed to mature and grow into the player he could become. I'm not declaring him guilty, but I will admit my opinion of him changed. I no longer support him personally, so I highly doubt I'll ever be able to support him professionally. I already put my Virtanen jersey into storage, and removed the stitching from my favorite hat that had his name and number on it. It's time for him and Vancouver to part ways regardless of the outcome of everything. I would be in full support of a Jake swap. -

To my knowledge it's currently a civil matter. The chance of anyone being charged and convicted of this type of alligations years later are slim to none. There would likely be zero physical evidence on either side to confirm or deny alligations. Very seldom do the accused ever get convicted years later unless other people start coming forward with similar alligations. Even then, there is rarely any tangible evidence for a conviction. -

Sexual misconduct is a blanket term to describe unwanted sexual advances, but can even be used to describe an array of different things that could be concidered sexual. It can be anything from making creepy comments, unwanted sexual advances, but even things such a streaking or mooning in some cases. The biggest difference is sexual misconduct is not a crime in Canada. Some places in the US have it classified as a crime, but to my knowledge it is not a crime in Canada, it's a term to describe acts of this nature that are not criminal. Least that's my understanding. Sexual assult is the act of sexually touching another person without consent to do so, or physically forcing a person into a sexual act against their will. It's what Jake is being accused of currently, and it is a crime. -

He's being accused of sexual assault, not misconduct. -
[Rumour] Tkachuk may want out of Calgary
MeanSeanBean replied to CanucksCountry's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Matt Cooke had 21 career fights in 16 years. That's not even 2 a year. The player you're describing isn't the guy I remember at all. -
[Rumour] Sam Reinhart open to a trade back to West Coast
MeanSeanBean replied to a topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'd say Johnsons ceiling is higher then Reinhardt. Johnson has one of the highest skill ceilings in the draft. McTavish has a lower ceiling, but higher floor then Johnson. I doubt McTavish ever gets as many points as SR, but I do believe he will be a very good all around player. -

Like I said, I got super lucky with Moritz. I don't know what exactly turned me on to him so much, but he was the player I was wanting to pick that year. I remember trying to justify 'reaching' to pick him at our spot. Boy did I ever feel validated when Detroit took him before we even had the chance. It's funny, because I had spent a year hyping him hard. Then my best friend's team picked him, which is rad because now I get to cheer for him by proxy. -

Jakob was the player I wanted badly that year. I had followed his career the year and a bit leading up to the draft and was convinced he was going to be the best player in the draft. Was shocked when he slid. At about pick 14 I started saying to my buddy Vancouver had to trade for another pick and take him. In recent years he is one of the 2 players I desperately wanted Vancouver to take, the other was Seider. Though admitedly that was a lucky guess, I don't think anyone knew he would be turning out this good. -

Maybe him, Tkachuk, and the 10OA of Eichel? -
I have a really hard time believing that the Yotes were asking for essentially 2 first round picks and a 2nd. He has a huge contract, they had a 2 team list, and they felt pressure to shed the money due to the teams financial woes.
-
If we loose to the wild it changes the timeline. Benning probably forces cap space to sign Toffoli, maybe even Tanev. He would have been forced to make the playoffs.
-
This was wildly known? I paid pretty close attention to this trade last year and don't recall our first being in play. I recall the deal being 2nd and Virtanen being reported, and the Yotes asking for a 1st. The trade didn't happen, so I'm gonna assume the first was a no fly.

So - Who Should The Canucks Take At The Number 9 Spot?

So - Who Should The Canucks Take At The Number 9 Spot?
MeanSeanBean replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
If Guenther is available you take him and run. He's one of my favorite players this draft. I'm totally ok with Benning drafting Johnson. It's a homerun swing. He does have high bust potential. But at this point I would rather Benning be still swinging for the fences then playing it safe. Means he's thinking about the future of the team, not his job security. All that being said, I'm not actually a Johnson fan personally. But I would be perfectly fine with him as out pick if he is BPA at our pick. -
What is the main position target the canucks need
MeanSeanBean replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
Yeah we will completely disagree that Sutter doesn't play hard and isn't hard to play against. He leads by example and is a pillar defensively. When interviewer's ask the kids who the leader in the room is Sutters name comes up year after year. Do I wish he would have had a better offensive output, sure, of course. But again that isn't the reason why Sutter was traded and signed to the team. His injury history as a Canuck is unlucky, and has no business being part of your argument. Leading up to his trade to the Canucks, 4 out of 5 seasons he had played 80+ games. You can believe that foundational pieces are franchise pieces all you want. That's your business, but it goes back to the post you replyed to. They are different things entirely, and your entire post seemed to just explain in detail what I was saying in my first post. People, and in my opinion you, don't understand what Benning was talking about when he called Sutter foundational. Foundational does not equal franchise altering players. Sutter was brought in to support our franchise players, and has done that job. -

MeanSeanBean replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
Foundations of a house are the parts you don't see, that hold everything together. All these years later I'm still confused how people don't seem to understand that's what Benning concidered Sutter. Someone who would play hard, win draws, kill penalties, play defense, and mentor the room so the young kids could flourish. -
Great post Sid. I don't follow advanced stats, not my jam. What about OEL is dropping off? His offensive production looks steady, which you mentioned is normally the first to drop. Could defensive numbers be more indicative of team play or has OEL lost a step or 2? I don't watch Yotes games past the ones I'm forced to watch when they play the Canucks

Where is his 3 years of regression talk coming from? His points per a game haven't regressed in that time. If anything they have improved minus a down year. His +/- has improved over that time as well (though personally I think that is a a garbage stat). 17/18 - 0.51 18/19 - 0.54 19/20 - 0.45 20/21 - 0.52 The only place I can find that mentions anything about him "regressing over 3 years" is that article posted by the score yesterday that mentions his underlying numbers haven't been great in the last 3 years. Is that where you picked up that specific 3 year regression or do you have other information. Because his numbers don't suggest the regression. Legit curious cause I'm not a advanced stats guy and don't want many Yotes games. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2184239

Difference in body type, is what I have gathered. Both are very good skaters, some of the best skaters in the draft. Both need to add size and muscle, and will as they age. Eklund is stacked in the low body though. Big strong legs lead to a solid foundation. Lysell needs to gain strength in both his upper, and lower body. In my experience working with athletes at that age, genetics are playing a huge role in their physical attributes. If at their age you have tree trunks for legs, it's likely because one of your parents do as well. All in all I think they both need to gain muscle mass to have effective careers, I just think Eklunds foundations (litterally) is much stronger. Full transparency though, I'm super bias because Eklund is my 2nd favorite player of this draft.
