  1. The Canucks have a few forwards they are looking to move in the off season. It’s in their best interest to pump up their stats by playing them more with our top players. Makes them much more marketable. Some top D’s actually play better if given more minutes. As for Demko, the schedule going fwd is relatively easy with not too many b to b. Also the boys have been playing better d. Fatigue should not be a factor
  2. If you look closely though, last season's late push and this seasons is not exactly the same. Demko last season had to stand on his head facing over 40 and 50 shots at times. This season since coming back from injury, he's been solid but has not had to outright steal games for us. We are largely playing an AHL defense but have still cut down our SOG significantly since Tocchet has taken over. Frankly I'd be worried if the coaching change wasn't working or if Demko had not come back to his usual form. This to me is worth more than gaining a few spots in this years draft. I know most of us long suffering fans have been burned before but its OK to be optimistic.
  3. It’s spring break. The kids are up late this week. Don’t waste your breath
  4. Don't think the Rangers are a good example. They were really not that bad, won the lottery twice, have free agents literally begging to sign with them. Also the population and the fact that they are an original 6 team helps
  5. yep. Getting Bedard on ELC for three years would be like adding nitrous to your team for cheap
  6. I don't disagree that the bigger stronger guy may have an advantage over a smaller one. But you have to get to the puck battles to begin with. You don't lose puck battles if you were never in one in the first place. Also winning the puck battle is only part of it. You need to do something after you win the battle, i.e. like have the speed and the agility to dish the puck out.
  7. dont get me wrong. I like Brock but I think trading him to clear cap is more palatable than buying out OEL. Plus we have glut of contracts in the wing position. Myers is easy to trade because most likely a team that would want him needs the cap cost to reach the cap floor at only 1 million real dollars. They can also flip him at the next TDL for a pick. May have to convince him to waive if the team is on his NTC list though.
  8. regardless of whether he gets back to his former self, we really can't afford him and he is one of the wingers that we need to consider trading to clear cap. Also, one of this team's goals is to get faster. BB unfortunately does not fit that goal. Hope he does well for the rest of the season to make it an easier trade.
  9. not related to the 2023 but just a look back at the 2017 draft. Never thought that EP would become the player he is now. I wonder as well whether getting Dahlen was a factor in us drafting Petey. Also love his reaction when he heard his name called. I don't remember any other of our 1st round draft picks with as big a grin on his face that he had.
  10. List of recent past college free agent signings: Troy Stecher Brogan Rafferty Josh Teves Jake Kielly Yes. we really need to temper our expectations.
  11. Well if he shies away from a hit, we can call him Chicken Big Mac.
  12. As I said, I wasn't a huge fan of his but hard to argue that we iced some of the best teams in those years.
  13. For the record, I wasn't a Benning Hater. He (and his team) did some good things like acquiring the core we see today. But he was unable to take it any further than that and saddled us with 2 anchor contracts. Also didn't like his loyalty to Green. His system was terrible for the type of players we had. Look what Gillis did with the core that the Burke/Nonis team brought. I'm not a huge fan of Gillis but we had some of our best years with him. Now this current team has a chance to reap the benefits of what Benning brought and take it further. Not to say that they are not without criticism. I did not like the Dickinson trade at the time and still don't like it. But their free agent signings this year have been gold. Cost us basically nothing in prospects or picks. Can you imagine what a 4th line of Dries, Joshua, and Aman can do in the playoffs? Under cost controlled contracts?
  14. I don’t. It was more of a commentary on the types of moves he was making just to salvage a season. The Hronek move was nothing like that
  15. Just like when Petey used the S word on HNIC a couple of times?
  16. I really don't get the hate for miller. He had a tough first half of the season (many on the team did) Horvat was "pounding" for his contract (nothing wrong with that, just pointing it out). Miller in this half of the season is like Miller of old. 99 points last season, ppg for the team the seasons before. Leadership on and off the ice.
  17. When we had our coaching bump last year, I counted 5 games where we allowed more than 40 shots and 2 of those we allowed over 50. Despite winning more games last year something was still not right. This year's bump is not like last years.
  18. Benning would have traded our first for journeyman starting goaltender the minute that Demko got injured this season.
  19. Nothing wrong with optimism for next year. Otherwise might as well pack it in and cheer for another team right? You think this team is exactly like last years? Same coach? Same players? Man, losing a few places in the draft order has really triggered some of you guys to post so much vitrol towards those that actually try and support this team. We aren't delusional leaf fans. We know management still has a lot of work ahead for us to be a consistent playoff team. Need to give this management a bloody chance. They've only been here a little over a year.
  20. Will be at the game again. 3rd game out of the last 4 home games. Row 12 lower on the canucks side. My daughter wants a Kuz stick so I will try and smuggle a banana. Figured it would be more believable if I put it in my pant pocket rather than my daughter
  21. https://www.bladeofsteel.com/NHL-may-close-the-loophole-being-used-by-the-Arizona-Coyotes-216480?fbclid=IwAR1qInkB3IZRfIaruxKcabwm4QC-oAUFG3iHljlop0ON2TvxZe5wfFBV-MY May or may not be significant but this may help us clear some cap as if implemented, teams will no longer be able to use LTIR trades to get to the cap floor.
