  1. This isn't a yes/no thing. I'm telling you, Pavelski, Kessel, and Staal are three players that are 30+ who got traded and ended up doing great in new environments. You don't get to set the parameters, and change them when they're not convenient to your original point.
  2. The way she posts it up too strikes me as immature/attention grabbing. Of course, this IN NO WAY absolves Kane of anything that she's accusing. What she's doing is pretty unprofessional and it comes across loudly in her posts.
  3. I think we all wish hockey doesn't involve something fishy. However, I think corruption exists everywhere. The NHL tries to put lids on things that make itself look bad, rather than to treat the problem. We see this with the sexual scandals involving teams like Chicago and Pittsburgh (former coach's wife complained she was touched/coach got fired for "performance reasons"). Then there's stuff involving handing punishment, like New Jersey. https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/devils-kovalchuk-penalty-reduced-get-first-round-pick-back/ The sanctions originally imposed on the Club included a significant fine, the forfeiture of the Club’s third-round draft selection in 2011 (which was forfeited) and the forfeiture of a first-round draft selection which has been deferred by the Club until this year in accordance with the terms of the original penalty. As a result, as it relates to the portion of the discipline relating to the first-round draft pick, the Devils stand to forfeit it entirely in the upcoming 2014 NHL Draft. The Devils recently applied to the League for reconsideration and relief from a portion of the original penalty, citing primarily changes in circumstances which, in the Club's view, changed the appropriateness of the sanctions initially imposed. What the actual &^@# is this? NJ knew the rules and the consequences, broke them anyway, and then got their first rounder back. "Changes in circumstances" seems very accurate to how the Luongo contract was structured. The rules for it were changed after the fact, and we got slapped with a recapture penalty.
  4. It's nothing new. Basketball is NOTORIOUS for gambling. They specifically have numerous ref scandals involving them betting in games that they can control. We just haven't discovered it yet in hockey.
  5. True. The NHL does indeed take its PR stuff more seriously than the behind the scenes stuff. That is undeniable.
  6. What's up with our Vancouver boys? They're horrible. I think they're both immature. Why is she taking this on IG? Why isn't she dealing this with the league privately? She's putting him on full blast on IG seemingly for the attention. I don't believe for a second that she doesn't have money to buy essentials, period. Still, Kane is just terrible.
  7. Now what would really be funny is if Montreal got to the finals But admittedly, the opponent can't be the Lightning with the new season.
  8. Hamilton is basically OEL on RD, but Hamilton is admittedly not a defensive liabiltiy. He's just not a defensive stalwart though, and you'll potentially be leaking goals without an actual solid LD partner, which we don't really have. Our offence seems to be heavily leaned on from the left side. Hughes/OEL/Juolevi? Myers may be the only one who can play RD AND score substantially.
  9. Head scratching take here, AV. If coaches don't make players better, then what do they do? What's the point of having coaches run drills? The players can just call the shots from the bench. By saying OEL isn't better than Edler, you are mixing multiple issues. What do you mean by better? From an offensive standpoint, it is fallacious to say he isn't better than Edler. vs Edler From a goals/points perspective, OEL is way better at scoring. In fact, this past season, Edler didn't score a single goal. He only got a measly 8 points. OEL on a poor, bottom feeding team has 24. Overall, Edler has more points, but this is largely attributed to playing with the Sedins/Hughes for so long, and his number of games played. We can, thus, safely say you are wrong there. Defensively? Yes, Edler is better known as a two-way defenceman. Skating has been an issue, and he is no longer the defensive stalwart he was known for. By contrast, for this upcoming season, OEL has some defensive partners that have yet to be determined. Thus, you cannot make a judgement on how good OEL is defensive because a) PHX/AZ has been a poor defensive team for all these years b) they are utilized differently With regards to roles, OEL is presumably going to be leaned on for heavy minutes + offense, while the RD will mostly be covering for any gaps in defenses that you mentioned, AV. Therefore, OEL is given a longer leash to play his game. The assumption that Schmidt is better than Poolman, based on what? You've said that there is no fit for Schmidt, yet is somehow better than Poolman who has never played a game? Are you listening to yourself? As for the rest of your post, this is why your posts are poorly received. Your bias towards certain players like Schmidt (who obviously didn't fit at all) is somehow a better option than Poolman? Not to mention that Schmidt is utilized in a way that will be different than Poolman? Also, in my defense of Schmidt, he was playing a lot of minutes with Edler, who is obviously struggling with the game (maybe due to injury). This actually suggests that Schmidt may be better off not playing with Edler, which of course begs the question as to how you can say Edler is any good.
  10. Why are you making such a long, judgmental post about a player you haven't seen or heard of then?
  11. A really cheap deal, maybe a deal the Canucks considered when crunching the numbers. Faceoff numbers are not as reliable, but still respectable, hovering around 50. Shaw would've known Nash well. Sutter has better offensive upside & numbers, plus has organization familiarity/well liked by teammates.
  12. OEL will be under the scrutiny, but as this trade has settled down and we've gotten a good glimpse of what our roster is gonna look like, I really think OEL will be a shining beacon of hope. He's just got a lot of good things going for him: 1) A trade - change of scenery - particularly a place that he ACTUALLY wants to be in (vancouver/boston were two places that he'd SPECIFICALLY accept) 2) Sedins/support staff - management obviously believes in him, and I think this is gonna make a huge difference, mentally. Special mention: Brad Shaw - I think he's going to make OEL better. 3) The best roster he's played on, arguably. Simply passing to anyone on the top two lines will get you points. Also, his defensive partner is going to allow OEL play his offensive game - something he's actually good at. 4) Honestly, probably the passion of the game - fans here are passionate, perhaps to a fault. When the in-person stuff comes back, I can just imagine the energy that he gets from the fans here. 5) As he produces more points, which I am VERY high on him doing, I think he's gonna be really happy and he's never going to look back.
  13. Joe Pavelski, Phil Kessel, Eric Staal? Anyway, I think OEL will have a good season beecause this is probably the best roster he's EVER played with in his career. If he sinks or swims, it's on him.
  14. https://www.thesportster.com/hockey/nhl-players-all-stars-after-trade/ Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin, and Blake Wheeler are the ones that I definitely remember and are on this list. The rest I'm a little iffy on. For the Canucks: Sven Baertschi, Todd Bertuzzi, Markus Naslund. Brendan Morrison too. Pearson, who was toiling away in Pittsburgh and needed a change of scenery. A lot of players actually when you think about it, lmm. Sometimes I wonder whether or not you actually watch the team that you criticize. Maybe this is proof.
  15. What exactly is the purpose of a 'future considerations' placeholder? Is it just a placeholder, or is it just something that GMs have this handshake agreement that they'll help each other out in the future more often? I guess the next question is, why weren't there future considerations in the deals involving Andrew Ladd/Shayne Ghost? They were literally traded for nothing.
  16. I've seen this video already. It's interesting that this video is 2 years ago, and yet he already made references to the real estate being crazy in Vancouver, compared to the Arizona suburbs. This indicates that he's aware of the real estate. I believe you generally don't make an off-the-cuff reference like that unless you're genuinely interested in the city. He really could've cited Toronto, San Fran, Seattle, etc, all of these places have inflated real estate prices. For some reason, he has a love-in with the city - not that I'm complaining.
  17. God help us if you go anywhere near an exec job. Your complete disregard for evidence contrary to what you project things to be makes you a horrible decision maker.
  18. I'm much more optimistic about OEL's resurgence. 1) He chose Vancouver/Boston as his two places he'd waive his NTC for, and it still applied, even though we had a poor season last year. Furthermore, I've seen a video from about two years ago that suggested he had been looking at Vancouver earlier (he compared Scottdale's housing prices with Vancouver). He really could've chosen anywhere else, but for some reason, he loves Vancouver. As a result, I have no doubt he'll be all-in for us. He has something to prove, and I believe him. 2) OEL has put up decentish points on some very bad AZ teams. Is this a reflection of him as captain? Absolutely not. The team has faced a ton of obstacles, including distractions like bankruptcy, rumours about moving away, and the cheating scandal too, to a much smaller extent. I hope AZ turns it around when they rebuild.
  19. I think since there is a veteran Brad Shaw there, he's going to have a significant voice to help Green out. I'm sure Shaw's expertise with defense will help Juolevi's game out.
  20. Hey, bud. I found your three blind mice right here. @AV. @Provost @ChuckNORRIS4Cup And then when you look at my signature... oh boy, you should get help.
  21. Not cool. You better get your itch checked out.
